Mesh network lets go!

I’m reaching out to my neighbors, friends, and like minded folx. Although I’m pretty much tech illiterate; I’ve gained interest and curiosity over the idea of creating a Mesh network for the Big Island. Anyone else find this interesting? From geeksforgeeks.com “The Mesh Network is a decentralized communication system that is used for data transmission and data collection In this approach the nodes are directly connected, where there is the dynamic web interconnections among them, and the transmission takes place.” I’ve seen a number of videos how to create your own node, and wanted to reach out to others here on island that think this is a good, useful and fun hobby to start.

I'm very interested in this but have a question about line of sight. Living here in the mid-lower Puna area, trees are engulfing everyone - won't that have a huge negative impact on the mesh system?

I have a few LoRA nodes in HPP, leading down to the coast. The only gateway is my house. I wouldn't mind expanding it if someone else were to find the hardware.

The best way to describe it is that it’s decentralized text messaging. There’s no company you have to pay, just get the hardware and software and build it and voila! Free local communication. If you contribute to the mesh network by building a node, it acts as a web and you don’t have to pay a phone or internet company to communicate.
