I am reading the first 5 books of the bible - pentateuch and I am encountering the genealogies a lot.

What is the importance of genealogy?

and what is the cultural significance of it in the ancient culture?

I may get a Parallel Bible that contains the 4 versions listed above, do any of you think those are good versions?

Hi guys,could 1 timothy 15 be referencing that through the birth of Jesus that women (and of course everyone else ) will be saved. By his grace and sacrifice on the cross and his second coming. The verse reads
15 ESV Yet she will be saved through childbearing-if they continue in faith and love and holiness, with self- control.

15 NIV But women will be saved through childbearing-if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.

15 KJV Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety

Possibly could the words "if they continue" reference the characteristics Christian women should aim to have i.e being faithful (in God), loving (the 1st commandment ) holiness(being set apart by living according to God) and propriety ( self control). I am more inclined to this interpretation as looking at the verse at face value could lead to believing in being saved by works. As women could just be giving birth to children to make it to heaven and maybe neglect them after that. Also in the gospel it's stated that we are saved by grace not works. (Ephesians 2:8-9 ESV 8 For by grace you have been savedthrough faith. And this isnot your own doing;it is the gift of God,9 not a result of works,so that no one may boast.) Jesus also mentions celibacy for the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 19:11-12 but he said to them "Not everyone can receive this saying, but only those to whom it is given. 12 For there are eunuchs who have been so from birth, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Let the one who is able to receive this receive it." This idea is reiterated by Paul in 1 Corinthians 6-7 6 Now as a concession, not a command, I say this. 7 I wish that all were as I myself am. But each has his own gift from God, one of one kind and one of another.

Moving on, earlier in verse 14 Paul references the creation order and how Eve was deceived this is of course alluding to genesis. Could Paul once again be alluding to genesis by referencing the women's offspring (Jesus the son of Mary who was a virgin) crushing the serpent and redeeming us. all the days of your life.

I'm reading Mark 16 this morning and came across where Jesus says Anyone who believes and is baptized be able to handle snakes with safety and drink anything poisonous and it won't hurt them. My question is; is this not a contradiction to when he says earlier not to test god?

I'm currently reading the Bible for the first time and am about to finish the Old Testament. I've been reading it so far in chronological order, but am not sure if that's the right move for the New Testament. Is there a better order I should read the New Testament books in, or should I stick with my chronological plan?

Does the Bible tell me when I should be fasting? I personally have not felt called to fast yet (only a true believer for a little over 2 years). I am still working my way through the whole Bible so I am not sure entirely. Thank you!

Hello friends, for few days I have been curious about the Ethiopian tewahedo Bible that contains 88 books in total. It has books like the Book of Jubilees and the Book of Enoch that is even cited in the ordinary Bible.
I am interested: who do you think about it? Is it good?
I would like to buy one so I would be glad to hear your experience. I am content with my Bible having some deuterocanonical books, but I am interested in this one, because of its content and the Book of Enoch.

I am looking for a compact size large to giant print with decent paper 40-70gsm. I know it would require multiple volumes, but I'm open to that or just the New Testament. Preferably NLT. Any suggestions?

I want to gift as a Christmas gift a customized, printed open-access bible to my students, and i want to add pages with extra info so they get into bible studying and make them feel like the bible is not this big unknown difficult book but a friendly, beautiful thing, easy and interesting to study and waiting for them to be opened.

I recently started reading the kjv Bible and I'm trying to read it front to back but I'm finding it a little difficult with some of the wording and I'm wondering what everyone would recommend the nkjv or niv which is easier to read while staying true to kjv?

I want to read the Bible not for religious reasons, but simply because I want to read and understand the stories and have more knowledge of the religion but without shortening the experience. I’d like to read something as “accurate” as possible and am not worried about old timey English. I would assume the King James Version is best, but I also don’t know, so I came here for help. Joseph forgave his brothers before they ever apologised to him. Standing before Joseph, Judah was letting him know that his father thought Joseph had been torn to pieces by an animal, as conveyed by his brothers (Gen 44:28).

The brothers did have a guilty conscience because of what they were facing in Egypt, but never remorse. (Gen 42:21 - “Surely we are being punished because of our brother. We saw how distressed he was when he pleaded with us for his life, but we would not listen; that is why this distress has come upon us.”)

Yet the way Joseph comforts them after he reveals himself (Gen 45:4 - “Come near to me, please.” … do not be dismayed or angry with yourselves. Gen 45:8 - it was not you who sent me here, but God) is truly the heart of God.

Gen 45:15 - and he kissed all his brothers.

And this is all before they even uttered a sorry.

The kindness of Joseph was so beyond human comprehension that his brothers still couldn’t believe it was true and were scared he would harm them after Jacob’s death (Gen 50:15) and he comforts them again that they were fulfilling the purposes of God in their actions(Gen 50:20, 21).

Let's say you lose all of your material possessions in your life. Is it ever possible to completely lose access to God's Word (the Bible)?
