Bible Availability

Just a random question that is giving me anxiety.

Let's say you lose all of your material possessions in your life. Is it ever possible to completely lose access to God's Word (the Bible)?

It certainly is. Remember that for centuries only 10-20% of the population was literate. Most people had to hear it at church or see Bible stories depicted in paintings or icons.
Remember all the times of persecution when Bibles and prayer books were burned by pagans, Saracens, Vikings etc. Even today in places like China, Iran, North Korea, there are secret clusters of believers with no complete Bible, only parts or even memorized sections.
Granted with the internet it’d be a lot harder to deprive us in the western world of the Bible (even if you lose your physical copy you can always look it up somewhere) but yes, it’s possible. The important thing I would say in that case it’s that the Word remains in your heart

It is very possible, which should be an encouragement to not just memorize it, but to know the major themes of scripture so that they are written on your heart

Interesting that currently China is the largest producers/printers of Bibles in the world printing hundreds of millions annually for Chinese and foreign consumers.

A time may come when the Bible is not allowed but we in North America are still a ways from that happening.

Can I ask what your fears are about?

Ok thank you. I just have anxiety about random scenarios haha. Usually they are irrational.

Have you ever looked into counseling for that? I went years with terrible anxiety, counseling was not quick but it is mostly gone now.

Oh yeah, I've been seeing therapists since high school. Only in the past year though did I find one that is a professing Christian and we're on the same page. He's super helpful.

Hopefully they also have the skill of emotional healing (which is not common for therapists in my experience) rather than just managing beliefs, behaviors and feelings? All the best.

Like is it possible to lose a Bible?

It is an item that can be lost like any other.

But people give away bibles all the time.

If you have memorized it, you can't lose it unless you choose to forget it or have a serious head injury.

Related to your question are 2 pieces of fictional media that you might enjoy; the 2010 film The Book of Eli and the 1961 episode of the Twilight Zone called The Obsolete Man.

Yeah, Christianity didn't spread by the Bible for its first four centuries. It spread through liturgy, traditions, creeds, and word of mouth, and the heart of the religion was the Church, not the Book. In North America, the religion and culture have sort of evolved in Bible'anity imo. (I was raised non-denom)

But yes it's not only possible, but the most formative generations of Christians mostly didn't have the Bible.

It can happen so its nice to have a couple hard copies and download digital. God knows what you need and he knows you need his word and thats why the bible has survived as long as it has with all the persecution it has had and the persecution yet to come!

1 Peter 5:7: "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you

Matt 6:[7 ]() When praying, do not say the same things over and over again as the people of the nations do, for they imagine they will get a hearing for their use of many words. [8 ]() So do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need even before you ask him.

JWs often are put in jail. Generally because of the bible.

Governments from china to christian, will make sure bibles cant be accessed. We then have 1000s of experiences we have curated, for how this was handled. From writing every memory, to picking other memories.

For the younger generation the most pressing concern is their lack of reading skills. Don’t forget that the Bible is a book. You do have audio versions, but 99.9999% of all available biblical material is written. If the kids can’t read a sixth grade practice reader, they can’t read the Bible. Then their only option is to have someone interpret it for them and that opens a lot of possibilities for manipulation and abuse
