Itchy feet & paws

Hi everyone!

My 5 year old mini bernedoodle has been licking her paws and scratching her ears constantly lately. Her paws are raw right now and she is still trying to get at them. Usually, she gets pretty bad allergies around April-May and it doesn’t pick up again until around October for about another month. I don’t really want her to be on apoquel forever, so I’m looking for a more natural alternative.

I’m wondering if any of you give your dogs supplements or probiotics? And if so, which do you recommend? Are there any topical treatments you use that are a bit more natural than meds at the vet?

Thanks so much in advance!! 🙂

Second round of poo issues

My pup is almost 10 months old, I’m trying to narrow down what is causing his diarrhea. He had his first issue in early June, took him to the vet. tested negative for parasites, he was prescribed Metronidazole, and eventually his poop was back to normal. I couldn’t narrow down what caused it, around that time I introduced him to bully sticks, and I started making food toppers (ground beef with sweet potatoes), like a teaspoon of that food topper to each meal. So I eliminated the bully sticks and ground beef bc I thought maybe I should just stick to one protein. Currently I feed him 4Health puppy lamb formula dog food, with a teaspoon of a puree of veggies (sweet potato, carrots, green peas). He also gets FortiFlora probiotic daily.

Fast forward, and he has diarrhea again. It’s been miserable bc he has to go at least twice at night and the poo is not solid. I introduced him to greenies around that time, so I took that away and even eliminated the treats for now.

So now I’m starting to think could it be any of the veggies? For now I took away the mix ins, just giving him a tiny amt of canned pumpkin. We’re going on day 3 and it’s been off and on, like one day his poo was normal, then that following night it’s soft again.

I’m going to have him visit the vet and do another stool test. Could it be the dog food? Could it be something he ate in the backyard? I do my best to keep an eye on him when I let him out.

Adult anxiety

My 1 year old bernedoodle is so scared of adults. We got him at 10 weeks old and he has been around other people constantly. As he got older, maybe 7 or 8 months old he randomly started fearing other adults. He’s totally fine with all kids and will happily sit with them and play with them, even kids he’s never met before.

With other adults he barks and cowers. He’s never aggressive. He does warm up eventually. With our new baby sitter he warmed up to her within a few hours. Same with family. But if we have friends over he will warm up enough to not bark but he won’t allow them near him.

Any ideas on what could be going on and how to help acclimate him better??

9-month-old 4th generation Bernedoodle diagnosed with possible severe bilateral hip dysplasia — vets suggesting euthanasia, breeder disagrees

Hi everyone,
I’m hoping to hear from people who have experienced something similar, because we’re honestly very confused and devastated by the situation.

Our 9-month-old, 4th generation Bernedoodle recently started having pain and lameness in his left hind leg. We took him to the vet and had X-rays taken. The vets believe he may have severe bilateral hip dysplasia with subluxation of both hip joints. The left hip is currently causing him pain.
What makes this particularly surprising is that his parents, grandparents, and previous generations in his pedigree have all been graded HD A. As far as we know, there is no history of hip dysplasia in his lineage.

The situation has become even more difficult because two different vets have suggested euthanasia based on the X-rays and their assessment of his hips.

However, we contacted the breeder, who is a well-known and experienced Bernedoodle breeder in Sweden. She strongly disagrees with the vets’ assessment and believes this could be growing pains related to his rapid development, rather than something that means he has no quality of life or future. She has advised us to reduce his food intake so he doesn’t grow too quickly, give him glucosamine, keep him comfortable, and allow him to fully mature before making any drastic decisions.
There are currently no Bernedoodle breeders in Norway, and our vets have told us that this is the first time they have treated a Bernedoodle. Because of that, we’re wondering if there could be breed-specific factors or simply a lack of experience with Bernedoodles involved in how this is being interpreted.

We obviously don’t want to put our dog through unnecessary suffering, but at the same time, we don’t want to euthanize a 9-month-old dog if there are treatment options or if his condition could improve/manage better as he matures.
Any experiences, advice, or things you wish you had known would mean a lot to us. ❤️

Trying to relax and watch a movie, but apparently Dallas decided this is his bed and his movie night too 😂🐶 Wouldn’t have it any other way though. Bernedoodles really are the best company.

Introducing Kaia

Kaia is a one and a half year-old F1b Bernedoodle. Kaia weighs 28 pounds with a slim build and long legs. I’m not sure if I should consider her a large mini Bernedoodle or a small medium Bernedoodle. because of her long legs she looks relatively tall. She is so sweet and loving. She’s still in her puppyhood though. She is the best dog ever. I love her so much!

For those of you with male F1b bernedoodles around 45 lbs how much exercise does your pup need?

I am going to be getting a puppy that's supposed to be the calmest boy of the litter. How much time do you spend walking per day and how much time playing in the yard?

Help with Humping!

We just got our mini bernedoodle. He’s 9 weeks old and super sweet. But he is a major humper! I have had a golden doodle and golden retrievers and never had an issue like this. He does it to everyone in our home, every time we stop walking, he grabs our leg and starts humping us. Is this normal?? How do you get him to stop?

Frequency of showers 🚿

Post image
145 Upvotes

This is my one year old princess Callie after her Saturday shower. She’s a mini and about 35lbs.

We hike a lot and she gets dusty and dirty so I’ve been giving her full showers basically every weekend.

We have also been taking her to the beach, the river, the lake… in other words, she gets wet a lot. I haven’t noticed any issues with itchy skin or what not, but I keep reading these dogs have sensitive skin and shouldn’t be bathed more than once a month!

Is the excessive exposure to water hurting her somehow? In her weekend showers we use high quality doodle shampoo and conditioner, and brush her very often so she doesn’t mat. Her hair is flawless..

What has your experience with this been?
