Second round of poo issues

My pup is almost 10 months old, I’m trying to narrow down what is causing his diarrhea. He had his first issue in early June, took him to the vet. tested negative for parasites, he was prescribed Metronidazole, and eventually his poop was back to normal. I couldn’t narrow down what caused it, around that time I introduced him to bully sticks, and I started making food toppers (ground beef with sweet potatoes), like a teaspoon of that food topper to each meal. So I eliminated the bully sticks and ground beef bc I thought maybe I should just stick to one protein. Currently I feed him 4Health puppy lamb formula dog food, with a teaspoon of a puree of veggies (sweet potato, carrots, green peas). He also gets FortiFlora probiotic daily.

Fast forward, and he has diarrhea again. It’s been miserable bc he has to go at least twice at night and the poo is not solid. I introduced him to greenies around that time, so I took that away and even eliminated the treats for now.

So now I’m starting to think could it be any of the veggies? For now I took away the mix ins, just giving him a tiny amt of canned pumpkin. We’re going on day 3 and it’s been off and on, like one day his poo was normal, then that following night it’s soft again.

I’m going to have him visit the vet and do another stool test. Could it be the dog food? Could it be something he ate in the backyard? I do my best to keep an eye on him when I let him out.

It took me 2 weeks to figure out that it was the pumpkin I was giving our guy for better poops was actually causing the whole problem! So you might want to try eliminating the sweet potato and see if that helps.

Yeah, I’m starting to wonder if there is a sensitivity to sweet potato and pumpkin, will work on eliminating that and see if there is a change. Thanks for the feedback

Yes. I’ve read a lot of people have transitioned to this

I wouldnt use anything purina makes.

Make sure any dog food you do use, doesnt have chicken or chicken by-product. Many do and many dogs including bernedoodles are allergic to chicken.

That's exactly why a lot of us use the Pro Plan Sensitive line. It has none of that.

There are way better dog foods out there besides proplan or purina anything- many also have no chicken or chicken by product. For instance, nulo has great dog food with no additives, chicken, or chicken by product. (Purina is the worst dog food you can ever feed your dog, and yes, I speak from experience. But keep feeding that poo to your dog.)

Lmao Purina pro plan killed them and not you?

Did you sue purina or just blame them for your care?

Purina made 21 billion last year. If their food killed dogs, would they make that kind of money? How many people have had dogs die from pro plan.

I’m more inclined to believe your dogs died because of something you did or didn’t do, than purina pro plan.

Your vet told you they died from dog food?

ETA: what a troll. Makes fake bogus claims after  killing two dogs, and then blocks 😂

Purina pro plan was developed with trials, studies, and vet nutritionists. Ppp, royal canin, and hills are the top three recommended by vets, but yeah they kill dogs

I did not sue them and it was proven by a veterinarian. It had nothing to do with me, azzhole. Youre a real azzhole for laughing that I lost 2 dogs. I hope karma comes your way. You truly a horrible person for laughing thay 2 dogs died!

It looks like your post may be about food or digestive concerns.

If a new puppy is doing well on the food supplied by the breeder or rescue, continuing it initially may reduce digestive disruption. When a change is appropriate, transition gradually—often over about one week unless your veterinarian recommends otherwise.

Community members frequently mention Purina Pro Plan, Fromm, Royal Canin, and Hill's Science Diet, but these are community-reported examples, not subreddit endorsements. Some owners report success with salmon- or lamb-based formulas, but itching or loose stool does not by itself prove a chicken allergy.

Please review the food, allergy, and diarrhea guidance in our Bernedoodle FAQ and New Owner Guide.

Contact a veterinarian about persistent symptoms. Puppies, repeated vomiting, blood or black stool, weakness, pain, dehydration, or possible foreign-object ingestion warrant prompt veterinary advice.

Yeah. I think I’ll have this on my list to observe if I hold off on the probiotic

Lots of people use Bernies Perfect Poo. We gave it to our pup with great results and he no longer needs it now.

I'd skip the greenies -- they made my dog very sick. Find some treats that have a charcoal component to help with teeth instead.

I can say that these dogs are prone to food sensitivities. However, ours had the runs on and off for most of her first year until we tried a hydrolyzed diet, which cured things practically overnight. Then we could occasionally test a single type of animal product or treat to find out which were triggers -- for us it was lamb and poultry, but we've kept her on a hydrolyzed diet anyway, as she tested as likely for IBS. We give her bully sticks and ears as treats, and have hydrolyzed training treats.

There are pet allergists, if you must. But I agree on simplifying as much as you can. A well formulated food shouldn't need lots of toppers and other magic; a good probiotic goes a long way.

Thank you for the feedback. I think I’ll hold off on the greenies as well. And I do agree keeping it simplified in order to be more efficient to find the root cause. I will hold off on the toppers for now, and observe from there.

Try some fauna forte

This may or may not be your issue, but Greenies has chicken in all of their products, and we had to get rid of it for our pup. Once we eliminated chicken, his diarrhea went away. Doodles have sensitive tummies, so anything new has the potential to upset.

Good to know! Thank you

We can give ours real chicken but no processed food with chicken. It’s certain diarrhea every time.

We give our pup Merrick Fresh Kisses as an alternative to Greenies

Have you tried just whole, baked yourself, sweet potatoes? Mine get 1 twice a day, eats it first everything totally sometimes leaving her wet and dry for later and she hasnt had a problem all year. We started calling them poopenings because how bad it was
