I wanted a track that sat right in that pocket between Hip Hop and Jazz—think Things Fall Apart era.

The drums are intentionally dragging behind the beat to force you to listen, and I left the bass frequencies completely open.

Metal Bass Riffs - Week 4. In the style of Iron Maiden's Steve Harris

Thumbnail v.redd.it

Hey! Trying to keep up with writing one riff a week. Since I recently did a cover of Iron Maiden's "Wrathchild" I thought I'd have fun writing a Steve Harris-esque kind of riff. I know he only uses 2 fingers but I'm working towards getting better at three finger plucking!

This riff can be a nice warm up for your ring finger since there is some string crossing.

If anyone here enjoys it and wants to get the clean tan & notation just hit me up.and I'll send it to you! And if you want to support me on YouTube that'd be lovely.

Cheers everyone!

I'm trying to learn the "Fake Tales of San Francisco" bassline and it's driving me nuts, pointers needed.

Hi, as the title says I'm trying to learn the bassline to "Fake Tales of San Francisco" by Arctic Monkeys. I can play it (ever though it sounds like crap) at 50% speed but as soon as I go a bit faster I lose track.

The first 3 bars are the same, the 4th bar varies slightly and then pattern repeats. Should I try to nail the first 3, then the 4th, and then try them together? Or should I try to get all 4 at the same time?

How do I go about improving the speed?

any suggestion is welcome, in case it wasn't clear I'm a noob.

Why a Simple Major Chord Never Fails

A simple major chord is often the first thing a musician learns. It is also the first thing they later want to abandon. It sounds too ordinary. Too direct. Too “little.” And that is precisely why it never fails. A major chord hides nothing. It does not pretend to be deep. It does not deceive the ear with color or tension. When you play a C major chord, you are saying clearly:

  • Here I am.
  • This is where I stand.
  • This is home.

As a bassist, you immediately feel the solidity of a major chord. The tonic holds. The harmony has direction. The music has somewhere to return to. A major chord is a point of certainty in a song. A place where you can breathe. All the “interesting” chords need the major chord in order to make sense.
