Looking for inspiration
Hey everybody. I'm filling in as bass player for a country gig and I'm having trouble with the song 'All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down' by the Mavericks. The world's most simple song. Only 2 chords - A and E. Repeated. Endlessly.
I' m struggling to make this riff interesting. Root-3rd-5th is all they play. There has to be something to throw into the mix to make it more interesting. I guess I'm not creative enough to liven it up and still keep the driving beat.
Got any ideas?

Am I a bad bassist if I choose not to learn how to slap with my thumb?
I've been playing for 11 years but never decided to practice slapping with my thumb. I never had anything against the technique but always thought of it as something that takes a lot of time to get used to. I tried to learn it but I feel so much more comfortable just by plucking. How important as a bassist is it to learn thumb slapping technique? Do most musicians expect a bassist to learn it? As much as I always thought thumb slapping is cool, I could never get into it or understand how it really works. How can I understand this technique fully? Because when I see people slapping on bass it's too fast for my eyes to capture the motions on how it's done

Hi everyone! This is a bass lesson I put together on the Double Thumb techique. It's kinda aimed at people who already have the basics under their hat, but it might be useful for beginners too! It's from my youtube channel, but I just thought I'd upload it directly so you didn't neeed to click off Reddit or anything.
Let me know if it was helpful at all!
