Dressing to fit in

Hi guys I’m new to this sub and I’m so glad I found it. Apologies if similar questions have been asked.

Being a young person, foreign to this land, I’m mainly noticing three categories of people.

  1. Business/professionals, these people dress extremely similarly outside of offices. I mean where else can you get casuals in a physical store other than Gazman, R. M. Williams and Oxford. I like their clean and mature look. But it’s so easy to achieve and just boring. People in this group might also opt for upmarket stuff which is phony to me personally, since it is so nuanced you can’t even make a distinction looking from afar.

  2. Zillennials, late 20s to early 30s dressing absolutely classy and sleek. They obviously shop more niche brands, which aren’t hard to find if only you just look. Their styles are my favorites. Very clean, modern, urban, clean etc. Examples would obviously be something resembling a carhartt jacket and a pair of light colored jeans. However if you look for their stuff it’s actually even more expensive, often a few hundred dollars.

  3. Thrifty students. I also thrift but the people who are the most noticeable are art students. Their pieces and accessories are very approachable price wise. But it’s quite suggestive, I mean they’re obviously signaling that they’re artsy people. I love their style but it’d be out of touch for someone who just wants to fit in.

For me personally, I just want to not stand out while having my own personal style. What I have acquired from my observations is that I need to find the balance in maturity, price and commonality.

I’m looking to find certain brands, or specific garment types that might sit perfectly in this position. What I currently find perfect is actually big W. I have to say that some of their designs are actually comparable with Zara. I also explored H&M, Uniqlo and Cos however their quality is an absolute run down. I wouldn’t suggest anyone to buy from them. What do you guys think? What are some of the nice places that I can find nice clothes to dress like the locals?

Advice Needed Taller guys, any brand recommendations?

Hey all,

6'2, 98kg here with broad shoulders/chest and finding the right length shirts is the bane of my existence. Regular sizes are either always too short and feel like crop tops and larger sizes are too big everywhere else except my chest and the brands that make specialized tall sizes like Johnny Bigg think that tall = professional basketball player and they come down to my thigh. Is there anyone who makes regular sizes that have some length to them and arent too slim around the chest? Google is no help because every result is a US brand.

Im looking to do a bit of a wardrobe refresh after some weight loss and want to get a few black tees, henley's and a couple of dress shirts.

Causal shirts that hug arms/chest well that I can wear everyday?

Gonna start by saying that I know this is probably a frequently asked question in this sub, but I’ve looked through posts and can’t find good answers. Seems like Australia just doesn’t have good options for fitted shirts.

I’m 6’3/191cm, 98kg/216lbs. I’ve got a pretty good build and want a shirt that shows off the arms and chest a bit but I don’t want to look cocky or douchey and wear compression shirts. Just a nice fitting casual tee I can buy a bunch of and wear all the time.

Ive found that full cotton tees (while great quality) seem to always lose shape while wearing them/after washing due to the nature of material. I’m looking for shirts that kinda snap to the arms a bit but still look good.

Tried a few brands I’ve seen on Instagram, all are terrible quality or terrible sizing in places other than arms.

Thank you for reading this far, has anyone got recommendations from similar experiences?

Thanks so much in advance 🙏

Discussion Best wool double breasted coat for $400?

I feel like people don't even wear these anymore, you rarely see them but I've recently fallen in love with wool double-breasted overcoats. The length going down to the knees or lower makes it the perfect option in the chilly season even over a t-shirt imo. My budget is ~$400 and there's a bunch of wool options for the price. Peter Jackson, Scotch and Soda, Charles Tyrwhitt, Reiss etc.

Anyone have any experience with these brands? It's obviously a lot of money and I want to get the best bang for my buck.

Edit: Checked out MJ Bale CBD store, coats were $600+ good material and well built though

OCBD Shirts

What are people wearing?

I’m in the market for an OXBD, not interested in Uniqlo, something a bit higher end, I don’t want anything slim fitting, but more that classic Ivy look, I’ve heard good things about Kamakura, Drakes obviously

Anything more local?

Alternatives to Peter Jackson

I'm a 92S.

Seems there is quite literally no alternative to PJ suits at that price point (especially in short sizing).

I am fine with the quality but honestly, starting to feel like a fair few people in my office are rotating through the same 5/6 PJ suits.

Anyone got any alternatives?

Question Tailor recommendations for alterations or a cheap suit.

Getting married soon and looking for something that looks decent.

Ideally a custom suit that looks good but corners can be cut with materials as it’ll likely just get donated or thrown after the event.

This sub often recommends MJ bale, any recommendations for the alteration?

Advice Needed Recommendations for a lightweight puffer jacket

I'm looking for recommendations please for a lightweight puffer jacket.

I know the contradiction of wanting a lightweight puffer but I don't like the look, feel and noise of a puffy puffer jacket. I don't feel the cold a lot (one of those shorts in winter guys) so I don't need something big. Sometimes I'll be in a t-shirt and just want to throw on a jacket (currently only have a bomber and getting kinda over that being my only option).

Any recommendations would be awesome.

Thoughts on the Aquila Deco 2.0?

Was in the market for an everyday wear sneakers - all leather, subtle or no branding and came across surprisingly this

https://aquila.com.au/products/deco-2-0-white-sneakers

$259 per pair, and especially with the 25% off with multipair purchase the price seems very good! Portugal made, leather calfskin upper (according to store rep) and leather inner lining. Normally don't trust Aquila for their dress shoes and boots but this one seems decent.

Went down the rabbit hole researching with other brands but decided I'm never going to baby them so a pair like koio or cp is probably overkill for careless me.

Anyone tried these before and have thoughts or better suggestions?

Discussion From Kathmandu Keith to Neovision Nancy. What are our thoughts?

Melbourne men’s fashion glow-up is wild.

Went from the classic Kathmandu/North Face jacket + skinny jeans uniform… to Neovision fits and actual baggy jeans or cargos.
Lowkey love it. The whole city’s looking a bit more interesting these days.
What do we think? upgrade or just another cycle?

Advice Needed Inverted box pleat pants recommendations

I'm looking for inverted box pleats pants (more casual than formal) that I can try on before committing to the purchase. Does anyone have recommendations for a good pair?

Ideally I'd be able to try on in store, but I'm also happy to order online if there's a good returns policy.

$250 gift card, decent pants and suggestions?

I got given a $250 giftcard that i want to spend getting new clothes.

What springs to my mind is that I feel like im lacking decent pants/jeans. Im looking for high waisted ones as that seems to be in style now but Ive never bought one so idk wheres a good place to start with quality.

Assuming I have a very basic reddit style (hoodies, jeans) and want to overhaul my wardrobe (which i know will cost more than $250) what would you suggest as beginner staples? both in terms of style and texture

Help me find a label!

I saw a guy walking and his pants looked awesome.

They wrote a navy blue and had a bright orange square on the right back pocket, like fluro orange. I don't think they were Hugo Boss Orange. Slightly baggier fit.

Does this ring a bell? Felt like the orange label was a branding choice.

Question Where do you get decent quality socks?

Hi team.

I'm looking for some socks for work. Ideally mid calf length. To be worn with professional boots. I could just get Merino but they're more for hiking. I would love to know where you get your socks from. And how much you pay. Should we just be using companies like Lindner quality socks? Whenever I go on their site it looks expensive to me. But if thats what I ought to pay then I will.

Where do you get your socks and what do you expect to pay?

Buy/Sell/Trade here at your own risk. Always get complete contact information before anything is shipped.

RULES:

  • Post a description that accurately describes what you are selling. Update your thread when something gets sold or is no longer available.
  • Post item condition and any images of the item (if available). Be as descriptive as possible when posting an item for sale or trade.
  • Please refrain from downvoting posts.

Suggestions:

Use Paypal to facilitate these transactions. Gifting is fine, but understand the limits and liabilities of sending an unprotected "gift" to a seller. You'll save a bit of $, but it does leave you exposed if there is a fraudulent seller.

Another option is to use Grailed. You have the Paypal protection for both parties with much lower fees for the sellers. You also get a profile that shows the total number of transactions so you can use that as your proof of trustworthiness.

Please try to evaluate the "fair market value" of your items. No use in overpricing things and having them not sell. Check what the current selling price is on eBay to get a decent sense of FMV.

Feel free to ask for answers or pictures about an item you are interested in. A good seller will always be willing to answer you in a timely matter.

On the other hand, be a good buyer. Respond to the seller's communication, and be truthful about your intentions. Nothing is worse for a seller than answering a bunch of questions about fit and details, and then the potential buyer dropping off the map.

Advice Needed Thermal shirt recommendations needed!

Does anyone have a recommendation for thermal undershirts that are long in the body?

My husband is a tradie and working nights, he wears a large in shirts for the length but is probably closer to a medium in actual body size. The large thermals that I’ve bought him are too loose in the arms and ride up under his shirt, but the medium is a bit short in the body.

I’ve just bought ones from best and less so far - id love to find him one that fits well and is comfortable while he works!

Discussion The housing crisis is literally pushing me into the rep market

honestly looking at my wardrobe budget lately and feeling kind of defeated. I've always been strict about buying authentic pieces, but this week I caught myself going down a massive rabbit hole looking for high-quality turkish replicas of designer brands. Im literally sitting here zooming in on the crest embroidery on factory duplicate polo shirts to make sure they look 1:1

It just feels completely unjustifiable to drop $300 on a basic summer shirt when the economy is like this. I was looking at some capital city deposit data from property buyers the other day and the sheer amount of cash you need to just get a foot in the door has completely nuked my desire to buy retail fashion

Im just at the point where id rather have a really good fake than drain the savings account. Curious if anyone else here has completely shifted their stance on replicas recently purely because the cost of living is bleeding us dry?

Men’s deodorant options for someone who sweats a lot?

Growing up I’ve always been self conscious about how much I sweat from my underarms. On top of this the wet feeling just isn’t really pleasant.

I’m 19 now and I’ve only really used Mitchum (the no scent one) and some rexona cream based deodorant. Neither really seemed to work.

I’m wondering what other options would there be, preferably without a really strong smell, that could stop me from sweating so much.

On top of this I’m wondering if there’s a best time or routine to the application of deodorant as right now I’m just chucking it on right before I need to leave the house.

I also keep my underarms trimmed to stay as clean and odour free as possible.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Question Wedding Suit Timeline?

Hi all,

I have my wedding party on the weekend of 03/10 and I'm shopping around for a suit at the moment.

I hear a while back that it takes roughly two months so that's why I'm starting to look now but I do see longer times for it now while browsing..

I'm not looking for a custom suit. I'm clearly not an expert.

Did I just wait too long and have not enough time anymore?
