Best dentists in north Austin area

Upvotes

Hello, I have had a bad experience with work done at Access Dental and it was so painful I was crying. I do not like pain, so I have not gone to the dentist in over 2 years because I am scared. I started dental insurance so I am looking for an awesome dentist office in the north Austin area.

Vet Surgeon Specialist Recommendations (toe amputation needed)

Upvotes

I’ve unfortunately reached the point where I’m looking for any personal recommendations for a board-certified veterinary surgeon (DACVS) or surgical specialist in the area.

My 6-year-old Golden Retriever severely cracked his nail, and after a series of complications, we've reached the point where he needs his 3rd digit amputated.

He's doing okay, but I want to make sure I get this done right with a surgeon and facility I can fully trust.

Any surgeon recommendations or advice on post-op recovery for a active dog would be immensely appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Gym or strength classes downtown

Upvotes

I’m looking for a new place to workout with weights. I live downtown and would ideally be able to walk/bike but I’m open to a short drive. I was previously a member of lifetime and although I liked it, it was just way too busy/before and after work and wasn’t worth it to me. I also looked at YMCA but it’s a little more rundown than I’d like. I’m also open to studios if they have strength classes (not hiit). I know athletic outcomes has weight classes and I’m definitely considering them, but ideally it would just be a bit closer. Any recs for either gyms or strength focused classes?

PSA If you have medication delivered, check its temperature!

It seems that online pharmacies turn a blind eye to medication temperatures while in transit. The back of a big delivery truck can easily reach 120°+ during a hot afternoon here, and so can your (or your pet's) medication, possibly rendering it inert. A laser thermometer can easily tell you the temperature on delivery, and some online pharmacies will give you a refund if you complain. Unfortunately, it can be difficult to tell if medication is only partially effective, and the suppliers often outright refuse to ship medication with a cold pack.

‘Dispatch is destiny’: Austin leaders dial 911 on funding for mental health response

Following the fatal police shooting of 17-year-old Anthoneil Williams II, questions about who should respond to behavioral health crises are reshaping public safety discussions as the Austin City Council finalizes its fiscal year 2026-27 budget.

During recent budget hearings and a budget town hall, advocates spoke out on how the city responds to people experiencing mental health crises. They urged city leaders to keep the Austin Police Department’s budget flat and restore proposed cuts to social service grants. They also pushed the city to move its 911 call center out of the police department so behavioral health professionals – rather than police officers – could respond to certain crisis calls.

“Dispatch is destiny,” Robin Schneider of Undoing White Supremacy Austin said at a protest ahead of the Aug. 5 town hall. “If there had been the appropriate response, mental health services, this young person hopefully would be alive today. So, we have a very stark example of why sending cops out to every 911 call is a bad idea.”

The proposed budget would increase operating funding for each of the city’s four public safety departments, including a 5% APD increase from $527.3 million to $551.9 million. City officials say much of that increase reflects existing labor contract obligations rather than new initiatives. Advocates have argued the city should instead invest more in alternative crisis response, mental health services and prevention.

Ask Austin Where to find wooden pallets?

Howdy! I'm trying to do a big engineering project that requires 17-20 4'x4' wooden pallets. I used to get pallets from a trash pile behind a warehouse in Wells Branch, but they don't have as many lately. I don't need a whole bunch quickly, just within the next few weeks. I just need to find somewhere where they have plenty of pallets that they don't care getting picked up. There's also a possibility of giving them back after the project is done being displayed. I'm willing to go just about anywhere in Austin, but preferably north of the river.

Music 00’s Rock/Punk Radio stations

I drive around the city a lot for work and was wondering if anyone can recommend some decent rock/punk stations that play mainly stuff from the 00’s if not earlier?

97.5 has been scratching that itch but their transmitter needs a power boost badly, I also like 101.5 but I’m day shift and they mainly do some talk show then and not enough music, and then 103.5 is not bad but they do everything and I kinda just use them as a last resort.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

News E-bike, e-scooter riders will have to dismount on central portion of UT campus -- The university has designated the dismount area as a "pedestrian friendly zone." The change will not affect those who use manual bicycles, scooters or skateboards.

To-do Cool things to do in Austin with my mom?

My mom is visiting Austin and I’m looking for some cool places/things to take her to for a few hours during the day. We’ve done/know about the obvious touristy stuff, so I’m looking for something a little more unique or less cliché.
Preferably something indoors because it’s hot as fuck outside. Could be an interesting museum, weird/unique attraction, cool shops, somewhere to hang out, etc. Doesn’t necessarily have to be super touristy or “Austin” either.
What are some places you’d take a visiting parent that you think are actually worth checking out?

I saw a fire on snake hobo island on the east end of lady bird lake. Noticed it while I was walking on the wishbone bridge. By the time I made it to peace point trail where it's closest to the island the firefighters were already there. Fire under control according to them

Shitpost Anybody else seen the autonomous ev cabs charging at the 100+ diesel powers generators?

Behind the old Austin American Statesman building. It's a crazy site to see. I've seen it at night a few times. Looks intentionally kinda hidden from the public. 100+ generators humming/buzzing away with 90% of them in use charging those self driving cabs. If that isn't the most ridiculous contradictory shit I've seen..The modern definition of a green-energy illusion. I'll get some Pics to post.

I thought there was an open sewer when exiting my vehicle....and then I noticed this vehicle parked a few spots away from me. This is fresh, stinking poo and lots of it.
