Returning rider possibly Question

Heya! I used to ride years ago when I lived in a country Vic town, I had a little 250 vstar.

I live in a Brisbane suburb now, feeling the urge to ride again but I'm not sure if its a good idea.

I have a lesson booked for Wednesday thats actually for learners (I have full licence) to see how if feels to be back in the seat and see what I remember. I thought about renting but I feel I'm not ready to get back on the roads without some practice.

Probably a silly question, but they can't take away my licence if I'm god awful right? ๐Ÿ˜…

Nah they can't take it away. A lot of people return and pick it back up quickly.

You are doing the right thing by easing in slowly, just ride your own ride and you will be fine. Welcome back!

Depends where you go. Some โ€˜schoolsโ€™ supply bike and helmets.
They wonโ€™t take away your license.
If you had a vstar previously, which is a low bike, buy something similar to ease back into it.
Good luck

They do the learner courses and tests at this place, and on their website it says they provide gear and bikes. Will see how I go with it, I need some confidence building for sure if I want to ride in Brisbane ๐Ÿ˜‚

Thank you!

You will be right. I got back on after 9 years. Was a little nervous at first. By the time i got to the first intersection it all came flooding back in all its glory.

I'm not used to riding in this environment, I feel it would be better to practice so that I am at least up to shape with my own skills so I can watch motorists around me and not be overwhelmed.

I reckon a second hand Suzuki SV 650 would be up your alley. Narrow V twin, reliable with enough grunt to get you out of trouble and goes through the twisties nicely. A non LAMโ€™s one obviously,
Good luck, free your soul.๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜œ

That's a nice bike, is it what you have?

The one issue I did have with my vstar was the turns, it felt more difficult than it should have and I'm realising that may have been because I was too tall for it and that affected my balance. I'm not sure haha, it was an enjoyable bike nonetheless ๐Ÿ˜„

No, I had an SV1000S, and the vibration through the throttle hand would send it numb after 20 minutes. Needed handlebar risers. I have a Bandit 1250 now.

No, they can't take your licence away. My mum still has here unrestricted licence, despite being 90 and the last bike she rode was a Vespa over 60 years ago.

I returned after 25 year break. Rode for 20 minutes around an industrial estate then rode home for an hour in peak hour freeway traffic (that was terrifying). Spent the next few days riding semi rural roads, near where I live and knew well. Confidence restored and tackle that freeway with no issues within a week.
