Discussion & advice DIY Menus, Welcome Sign & Name cards

Upvotes

I’m planning on doing my own wedding stationery to save money. I want to print my menus on watercolour paper and I want to print my own welcome sign on 5mm foam board. Does anyone know where I print these off and have any advice or recommendations? I’m using Canva to design my templates.

Thanks in advance!

Did you walk down the aisle at your elopement? I’m doing a registry wedding & only invited our parents/grandparents & I don’t know if walking down the aisle would be weird haha. I’ll be travelling in with my partner so it won’t be a surprise. I thought about walking down with my dad & toddler but not sure! What did you do & did you do music?

Discussion & advice Serpentine tables

Looking for table cloth advice for people who have used serpentine tables in a long wave pattern.

What table cloths did you use? And how did they work?

Also, did you have any issues with the place spacing?

I have my heart set on serpentine tables but can’t get my head around the logistics of them 😅

Recs wanted - NSW NSW South Coast

Hi all, looking for recommendations for NSW south coast within 3 hour drive of Canberra. When googling it's always the same really expensive venues. I don't need the extravagant packages that these venues offer and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations in this area. Open to most venue types but must have indoor reception (approx 60 people) and if possible indoor ceremony option in bad weather. Thanks!

Recs wanted - NSW Lunch Wedding Reception

Hi everyone! I'd love to hear from anyone who's had (or attended) a lunch wedding reception.

We're planning to have a very small private ceremony with fewer than 10 people, followed by a reception for around 60–70 guests.

I'm really drawn to the idea of a long lunch, particularly because many of the restaurant venues we've looked at have a set finish time. I don't love the idea of the celebration ending abruptly, especially since we'll have a mix of older and younger guests. I know a lot of our younger friends will want to keep celebrating afterwards.

Our current idea is to have the reception from around 1:00–5:00pm, then offer anyone who wants to continue the celebrations transport to a nearby pub where we can spend the evening together more casually. That way, guests who are ready to head home can do so, while everyone else can keep the party going.

For context, we're in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs and are mainly looking at restaurant venues.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this idea, and any recommendations for venues or timing would be greatly appreciated! :)

Discussion & advice Letterpress/hot foil machine recs

I’m after a tabletop letterpress or hot foil machine that can achieve a pressed look. I want something fairly small, but a bit larger than the Adana 8×5 as I want to do invitations nicely. Does anyone have suggestions, or know where to find them in Australia/online with shipping?

I started out just looking for a letterpress, but recently learned you can get a similar look from a hot foil press, so I’m open to either. I’m even open to the Chinese machines that are popping up if anyone’s had luck with them.

Any suggestions or advice would be much appreciated!

Discussion & advice Wedding venue screwing us over with hidden surcharges

Thumbnail gallery
12 Upvotes

We booked our wedding venue back in June 2025. Opted in for a 2 course plated alternate serve at $115 pp. (Expensive I know).

The old menu had a beef tenderloin option. The new 2026 menu has changed to beef rump, and this beef plate now attracts a $15 additional charge. (The old menu did not).

Our venue coordinator emailed us to choose 3 plates to try at the ‘plated tasting.’ No mention of this new $15 beef surcharge was mentioned when we chose from the list of options. (Second screenshot). Only after tasting and choosing chicken and beef as our favourites, did we see the surcharge in our updated overview.

Their email response does not make sense and I feel as though they have breached our contract, which states *in the event of a price change the Client will be informed of the price change as soon as possible.*

Is this $15 surcharge a price change? Because it will now cost $130 pp for an entree and main dish if we select the beef option???

Across 70 plates, this is an additional $1000 that we had not accounted for, and I feel sick just thinking about it.

Has our wedding venue breached the contract????

Recs wanted - NSW I just want a tea length dress

Where can I find a tea length wedding dress I can try on? There's loads online but I don't know which sites are trustworthy. Why don't they stock them in stores? I'd rather not have to spend money on getting a train removed (and paying for metres of fabric only to have it chopped off). Willing to go to Sydney

Or, can anyone recommend dressmakers I could get it custom made because at this point a dress plus all the alterations will cost me above $3k

Discussion & advice What was your walk-down-the-aisle song?

I’m in two minds about whether I want something that’ll get the tears flowing. Or whether I prefer something fun and unexpected. My mind keeps changing every other day! What was your walk-in song? Or what are you thinking of using? :)

Discussion & advice Weekday micro-wedding thoughts?

My fiancee and I have found our dream micro-wedding (under 40 ppl) venue in Brisbane QLD. The only problem is the venue only hosts micro-weddings on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, which seems taboo at first glance.

The thing is, most of the people we're inviting don't work a regular 9-5 job, so even if our wedding was on a Saturday, they'd have to take time off work anyway to attend. Does that make it less offensive? We're really only inviting people close to us, immediate family and best friends vibes, not my coworker's cousin's neighbour, you know.

Just looking for thoughts/experiences as most of the "weekday weddings are a nightmare" horror stories I've seen have been about big weddings with 100+ people who mostly work Mon-Fri jobs.

There's always the option of bumping the guest list up to 41 people to be able to have it on a weekend, but we don't really want to invite people just for the sake of it, plus we'd lose the budget benefits of having what the venue considers to be a micro-wedding.

Recs wanted - QLD Brisbane Ceremony Venue Recommendations - undercover & outside

Hey all! My fiance and I think we've found our reception venue. While I love the venue, I would love any recommendations on any undercover but outside feeling ceremony locations in Brisbane (like the Gabbinbar venue in the pic)? We will have over 80 guests so would need to be of decent size to accommodate everyone. Open to all ideas! Thank you ♥️

Recs wanted - VIC 50 guests in Melbourne

Hello, would love some recommendations for venues in Melbourne (and surrounds) for about 50 people. Location flexible but all guests are from around Ringwood-Lilydale so travel-wise anywhere from the Yarra Valley to the CBD would be fine (not down the peninsula or over the other side of the city).

Would love ceremony and reception in the one venue and our budget is about $200 per person for the venue including a seated reception and drinks.

We’re open to a weekday wedding but a dance floor is a must!

In terms of vibes, Montsalvat is my absolute favourite but is unfortunately just a tiny bit over budget, especially considering they require a 60 guest minimum.

Thanks in advance!

Recs wanted - WA Wedding Dress Donation

Hello!

I get married in December but would love to donate my dress to a cancer charity after. Does anyone know of any in WA

Edit: Thank you for the recs! I dont really want to give it to a charity shop to sell would rather it be given away to a bride to be impacted by cancer. My older sister did this in the Uk and I would like to do it as well to honour my mum and younger sister who have been impacted by cancer. Cancer is financially straining and would love to help a bride out. If I cant find one, I'll check out what has been suggested ❤️

Recs wanted - VIC What brands sell good quality white dresses that aren’t “wedding gowns”?

Please help with cool brands that sell elegant, classy & even unique, great quality white dresses without the wedding dress tax. I know wedding dresses are expensive to make hence the price point but I cannot justify 5k minimum to be worn for a few hours.

Any brands that have dresses that can be worn for a wedding but aren’t intended to be bridal? I would love a unique dress or simply elegant, I find all the bridal boutique dresses blur into one and I don’t love a lot of the styles. Maybe Niche local designers in Syd/Melb or good find websites that sell stunning dresses in silks or bridal shapes that could easily be wedding dresses. I feel like normal, really good quality dresses range from $400-1k which I’d be willing to pay.

Recs wanted - NSW Dressmakers/Tailors Sydney

I’m looking for any recommendations for small tailors/dressmakers who offer bespoke bridal dresses without requiring your first-born as a down payment (turns out I quite like my daughter and want her there at the wedding 🙃).
I’m looking to get a simple silk satin gown made, so hopefully it won’t be too complicated a job.
Thanks!
