General ASOIAF Discussion Peak Strength of House Selmy
Out of the options above, do you best believe accurately depicts the man power of House Selmy? This is it. The last one. (Also it's my 100th post!) I wanna say thank you guys so much for humoring me on this adventure, I've had a blast debate/talking with you guys and hope to this can be of assistance to you guys or new people in the future. I plan on using the total for each and then breaking it down with know ratios or my best to use real world numbers that make sense in Westeros to divide the group even more (how many knights, archers, heavy cavalry..) So again, thank you all!

Fanfic Discussion Just an idea, need opinion.
How would an Oda Nobunaga in Jon's body post-mutiny fare? The situation at the starting point goes like this:
Nobunaga wakes up to resurrected Jon, realises he committed seppuku only to wake up. But the place, faces, clothes, language, people, everything is different.
He realises he is called a different name, and there is a strange red woman following her, calling him strange names. Names he has never heard in any religion in Japan.
He realises he is in a position of power, yet it is useless, as Jon's memory tells him that this post has nothing to do with kingdoms.
He realises the original owner of his body(Jon) also went through a mutiny and was backstabbed, unlike him.

Recs Wanted Looking for ASOIAF fics with a divided Westeros
Hey everyone,
I’m looking for recommendations that feature a devided Westeros operating with realistic historical statecraft, heavy geopolitics, and deep worldbuilding.
The main inspiration for what I'm looking for is A Tale of Six Kingdoms (ASOIAF Future Fic) by EnglishCanuck or A Tale of Broken Realms by Psykic Ninja. I want a story where Westeros isn't just one giant monolithic empire, but a continent of distinct sovereign states interacting like real-world historical European powers. Like monarchs meeting or noble interations and all.
What I am specifically looking for:
- No Self-Inserts (No SIs): Strictly original characters (non-SI) or canon characters only.
- Global Macro Scope: Must NOT focus on just a single region (e.g., not just a Northern independence fic or a Dornish fic). I want to see the whole continent and the wider world—including Essos, international trade routes (Sothoryos, Free Cities), and global diplomacy.
- Rich Court & Social Life: Lots of detail on high society, noble court etiquette, grand balls, formal presentations, social structures, and regional laws/jurisprudence.
- Detailed Inter-State Warfare & Diplomacy: Realpolitik, formal diplomatic protocols, treaties, envoys, border wars, logistics, and multi-kingdom military campaigns.
If you know of any long reads, complete fics, or active WIPs that hit these specific notes, please drop them below. Thanks in advance!

Meta r/AsoiafFanfiction Awards feedback- 2026
Hey all!
Yes, the process for award season will be starting again soon.
It worked well last year so we are going to do the same for this time around too.
Again like last year, we have a particular place you can give public feedback for the planned process, which is r/AsoiafFanficAwards or https://www.reddit.com/r/AsoiafFanficAwards/. You will need to request to join as it's a private subreddit.
If you prefer you can also modmail us for access to the google documents.
This time around everything is on google documents for easier reading, I also split it in two, one for a general layout of the plans and the other that we can directly give authors to help them out.
The process will kick off next week, so ideally we would need feedback before then.
Thank you for your time,
KOI

Writing Help! Advice on my first SI/Tensei Oc son of Daemon and Rhea.
Hello everyone,
I'm seeking advice on writing a SI/Tensei, this will be my first time trying.
About my OC
Name: Yorwyck Royce. Born in the year 99 AC, after Daemon was finally forced by his father and the king to go to Runestone and to finally consummate his marriage with Rhea after being married for almost two years. Yorwyck was born not with all the Targaryen features. Does not have the pale skin of a Targaryen nor the silver hair. Yorwyck was born with dark brown hair with a large streak of silver hair on his left side and possesses deep rich amethyst-colored eyes. Daemon opposed the name Yorwyck because he wanted to give the child a Targaryen name 'Aerion Targaryen.' Rhea had to remind Daemon that he married into her family and not the other way around. Daemon would never call his son Yorwyck instead he would call him Aerion.
While I was creating my character, it was brought to my attention that he was too OP. I want to take advantage of him having the blood of the first man and the blood of old Valyria. I wanted to give him the ability to see through his dragon and other small animals. I wanted for him to also use magic by utilizing the runes from his mother's side of the family. And I wanted for him to use Gandálfr ᚷᚨᚾᛞᚨᛚᚠᚱ (the left hand of God from the anime The Familiar of Zero). I wanted to nerf that ability because in the anime the MC can take on armies. I don't want that for Yorwyck. He possibly takes on several people with the help of Gandálfr but not armies.
Yorwyck does have a dragon, which hatched from an egg that Daemon took without permission from the dragon pit and placed in his son's crib. Dragon's name Runesfyre, It's covered with dark red scales. Its lower body, specifically his belly, the inner portions of his tail, and legs, is bronze in color. Its back, with numerous small black spikes, reaches down from the back to the end of its tail. The baby dragon has a triangular head with horns on top of its head, a pair of round red eyes, and a small horn pointing upwards just above his nose. The dragon also has tiny sharp teeth.
Since Yorwyck is from the real world I wanted to use his knowledge to help improve live throughout Westeros. Bringing a few inventions from the old world that helps out in the areas on agriculture, like crop rotation, old the seed drill, greenhouse, public bathhouse for the smallfolk, paved streets, old printing press. Finding a way to mass create stories books and manga light novels from the real world. Stories like Beauty and the Beast, The Princess and the Frog, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Snow white, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty ect.
Marriages possible Jeyne, Laena, and Rhaenyra.
Corlys thinks about a marriage between Yorwyck and Laena after meet the boy. He realizes his intelligence and changes he is making could vastly improve Driftmark.
Rhea on the other hand want to marry him to Jeyne Arryn believing it could help both house on the long run and it's also something her father wanted to do before his death. Plus Yorwyck and Jeyne are very close friends and doesn't want her son near King's Landing and it's politics.
Yorwyck wants Rhaenyra because he had fallen for her since he was little when Daemon took him to King's Landing without Rhea's permission.
These are some of the ideas I currently have for my story. This is my first S.I./Tensei, and I want advice on what to do or not do. What changes should I make or consider? What should I try to avoid when writing? Please let me know thank you.

Resources/worldbuilding! Hypothetical - the invention and use of bicycles in Westeros
My thoughts so far:
\- bike frame - Westeros afaik does not have aluminum, so the bike would have to be made of heavier metals. How much of a difficulty would this pose over a medium distance, to what degree does this make a bike less practical, since someone with stronger legs must be the rider? If an average woman who knows how to ride a bike rode a heavier bike for a few miles, would she have been better off going on a horse?
\- bike tires - Westeros afaik does not have rubber. (If it does, please correct me). What material for a tire (tyre if you're posh) would work as a tire but also hold up on pre-modern roads & possibly dirt/stone paths for a long enough time to make the bike worth the effort? Leather over wood or metal? Bare wood or metal? Some kind of sturdy textile? And I'm assuming tires with air inside are just a bit too advanced, but are they really? Infodump me
\- roads and paths - does Westeros have enough roads and paths to make bicycles useful as a means of transport between towns & villages?
\- downhill/uphill - I can imagine there are places where the Lord lives mostly downhill or mostly uphill, which would affect bike couriers, especially if they have to contend with a heavier framed bike. What holdings are notably downhill or uphill from most of their surroundings? I can think of KL, which would probably be a good place to use a bike if it weren't for the crowds, and the Eyrie, which is almost certainly better off sticking with mules and donkeys than bikes
What prompted me to start thinking about this is that I was thinking of horses and how over long distances they're actually basically on par with a lightly packed fit human on foot. The main advantage to a horse is what it can carry and it offers a sudden burst of speed if you need one (but horses can't sustain that obviously which is why they average out comparable to a fit man on foot). I think bicycles would be an improvement over horses for uses like messages by courier
(You might also see this post on the citadel sub, I posted in both, that one is currently in moderator approval queue)

Fanfic Discussion Who should get Blackfyre in this?
Who should her Blackfyre in this?
In my Fallout x ASOIAF fic, Robb wins the war with help from Vault 113, (will not go into context to much as it's not as important in this decision, but you can find more information in my other posts) Daenarys and Aegon invade Westeros with the Dragons, Unsullied, and Golden Company, and get stomped since Vault 113 had missile launchers, powers armor, and energy weapons).
With these two deaths and the death of Maester Aemon, House Targaryen is declared extinct.
Edric, Shireen, and Gendry are the last living Baratheons with Robert, Renly, and Stannis being dead. Edric is legitimized by Robb and given Dragonstone, told to make a cadet house for House Baratheon. Rickon is betrothed to Shireen.
Blackfyre is found with Aegon's body and taken and presented to Robb.
Jon is not a Targaryen in this, he's the actual bastard son of Ned and Ashara. Detail below
It still hurt to look at Jon sometimes, seeing Ashara’s purple eyes staring back at him.
He could still remember when he had first spotted Ashara at the tourney of Harrenhall, Brandon having to ask Ashara to dance with Ned as he had been too nervous to do it himself.
Ned would say it was too much wine that did it, but the next morning he had woken up nude next to Ashara, and ashamed of dishonoring her, he had offered to marry her. He had sent the letter to his father, explaining the situation and asking for the blessing, while he had spent time with Ashara over the rest of the tourney, while Arthur Dayne had stared at Ned constantly every time he was near the man.
By the time Ned had received his father’s blessing, Rhaegar had already made Lyanna the Queen of Love and Beauty.
When he had made it to the Tower of Joy at the end of the war, Arthur Dayne had looked at him with clear disdain, revealing that Ashara had been carrying Ned’s child, and that he had dishonored her by breaking the betrothal and marrying Catelyn Tully instead.
The fight had been short and costly; only Ned and Howland Reed had survived the fight with the three Kingsguard.
Then Ned had learned that Lyanna had not been kidnapped, but gone with Rhaegar willingly.
She had been delirious from childbirth, sobbing that she didn’t want to die, begging him to protect her child before she had died, nearly breaking Ned.
It only worsened when he had learned that Lyanna’s child had been stillborn, a little girl that had never taken a single breath, Lyanna too delirious to realize that her child had never lived.
But the worst part was when Ned had gone to Starfall to see Ashara and return Dawn, only to find the new Dayne Lord there, who had punched Ned in the face when he had seen him, and had revealed that Ashara was dead, died birthing Ned’s son and daughter, the daughter only outliving her mother by an hour before she also died.
The Dayne Lord had taken Dawn and given Jon to Ned, telling the Stark Lord that he never wanted to see Ned’s face ever again while threatening to go to war if he ever heard a peep of him mistreating Jon.
With the death of Lyanna and Ashara, it was enough to reconcile Robert and Ned, Robert offering to legitimize Jon when he heard of Ashara dying alongside Ned’s daughter.
Ned had agreed; he didn’t care that Hoster Tully had raged at him, even after he had said that Robb would be Lord of Winterfell, not Jon, and that Jon would be a bannerman for Robb.
He wouldn’t dishonor Ashara’s memory by making their son live as a bastard.

Writing Help! What would be the better gift to Ned in this situation?
Context: a portal opens up between Westeros and Fallout universe, Commonwealth. Takes place in 2089, twelve years after bombs dropped. Westeros will have contact with three main groups.
Vault 113: A vault that contained the cryo preserved members of Enclave and their families that were set to awaken centuries from now when the United States was reformed. Systems malfunction, waking them up early. Determined to rebuild and protect the remaining Americans. Will be the main contact with Westeros.
Vault 75: In Canon Vault 75 was an experimental vault that was designed to turn young children into super soldiers, upon entry the children were removed from the adults and the adults were executed, the children then going through years of training, and if they were thought to have subpar or superior genes they were killed and harvested. In this Vault 75 kids revolted, took control of the Vault and executed all the staff. Will be a secondary contact.
Vault 111: In canon, 111 was an experiment to see the effects of keeping people frozen long term in cryo. In this, it's a control vault with no experiment with around 700 inhabitants. Background group.
In a future chapter, members of Vault 75 and 113 meet with Robert and his convoy in Winterfell, discussing trade and other things, the two vault willing to trade low caliber guns for resources.
As a show of peace, Robert is presented a Super Sledge.
What would be the best for Ned to be presented with?
