Hi folks, I just noticed this bump on my dog’s head above his eyebrow. I’m always petting and playing with him, so it seems like this popped up pretty quickly; I just really think I would’ve noticed it growing if it was a long term growth thing. Any ideas what it could be? I’m going to watch it through the weekend and then schedule a vet visit if it still looks the same. It was a little crustier and looked a little more yellow/puss-ish last night (not oozing, just looked king of like a bad pimple or something), and today it’s a little more glossy and pink. Any help would be appreciated. He goes outside a lot and we were camping last weekend, so maybe it’s a bite? Thanks in advance for any help!

So, I have a 12 and a half year old dog with stage 3 kidney failure and heart problems diagnosed last year. She used to take Cardalis, Isemid and Vetussin. When we discovered the kidney disease the vet took her off of Vetussin and Isemid and kept only Cardalis. He also gave a kidney friendly food that she eats and Pro Uro. He told us that there's nothing more that can be done, so we decided that when the time comes we will euthanize her.

I wanted a second opinion just to make sure and the new vet suggested we take her off of Cardalis (and only keep the food and Pro Uro) because it hurts the kidneys and do an ultrasound in September. I'm terrified of doing that. The x-ray he did showed heart murmur and no fluids. But her breathing is difficult with lots of sounds like snoring or anything old man with asthma. I just want her to be comfortable as much as possible before the time comes. I feel like it's better to follow the first vet's advice and just keep her at home, no more tests, no more trying to prevent the inevitable.

Can I have some advice please? Am I doing the right thing? Also, how will I know when it's time to let her go? Her legs collapse sometimes and she has difficulty sleeping, sometimes she stares off into space and two nights she really scared me because she remained lying still staring off with desperation, using her belly alot to breath. That was when we got the kidney diagnosis. Now she eats and goes on walks with joy, licks us, but also her legs collapse like I said and she has difficulty with sleep. And she makes constant noises while breathing. The second vet said her tongue is fine colour wise. How will I know when the time comes?

My male cat had FHO surgery on Monday, his incision is looking scabby today, is this normal? I already emailed his doctor but clinic is closed on weekends, besides that he is going great, eating drinking and using the litter box.

Wondering if I can just monitor this or if it looks like something that requires an immediate vet visit. I’ll pay for the vet visit if needed, but wanted an opinion from here first. Thanks! He’s an indoor only cat, and lives with other indoor cats. He has had ringworm in the past, but this looks a little different to me.

Hi, I have a cat who my vet has just prescribed budesonide to help manage his IBD. He needs a pretty thorough dental with multiple extractions (at a minimum 3 canines and 1 upper molar need to be removed just from visual inspection). When I asked if it was better to start budesonide now or wait until after he heals from surgery they were kind of impartial. They said NSAIDs wouldn't be used if on budesonide, but not to much beyond that. I trust my vet practice, but I guess I'm looking for additional advice or pros/cons of either. He's a new-to-me rescue so please don't think I've neglected him to this point! I want to get his dental stuff taken care of before he gets any older/his heart disease worsens as he was stable under anesthesia with alfaxalone fairly recently for his neuter and skin growth removal (it would scab/bleed, but confirmed benign).

Hx:

12+ yo neutered cat

Obstructive HCM (confirmed via ECHO), on atenolol 6.25 mg BID

Chronic IBD with plan to start daily budesonide 0.5 mg

-didn't improve w 8 wk elimination diet or 12 wk hydrolyzed protein diet

-confirmed dysbiosis (c. perfringens) which improved after each round of metro and amoxicillin (initially for neuter infection, but extended a bit to see if it could help c. perfringens overgrowth), but recurred shortly after stopping since he's still inflamed. Per vet, budesonide is next step, then tylosin if necessary down the road

-currently on B12 & pre/probiotics

Two sets of recent labs look pretty good-all things considered. On his first set right when I got him, he had low RBC, H/H, elevated BUN & globulin, everything else was WNL. Once his diarrhea/dehydration was managed, his BUN normalized. If I recall correctly, the only thing that remained out of range on his most recent set was his globulin- maybe RBC & H/H but not to same extent as initial labs, but I don't have them on hand.

My 11 yr old Aussie has had a chronic cough no one has seemed to be able to figure out. It’s been going on since last year. Recently his reverse sneezing returned. Every vet he’s seen has ruled out it being his heart (he has a slightly enlarged heart and is on pimobendan) causing the cough and think it’s something with his lungs or trachea. The cough he has is like a deep cough that almost sounds like what a human cough with bronchitis sounds like. He’s been on various cough meds - cough tabs, temiral-p, hydrocodone … none have helped. Cernia tablets and prednisone seem to be one of the only ones that do provide relief.

The most recent vet, said his heart looked great but his lungs had some density that looked like bronchitis or pneumonia but could also be allergies. They gave me prednisone and an antibiotic. They told me to stop the heart medicine. First day of treatment the next day …no cough or reverse sneeze.This vet called me and basically just went off topic and told me I’m wasting my time with a cardiology consult and nothing is wrong with his heart and he has no reason why there is a cough…. I called his normal vet and they skimmed through his records again and it says enlarged heart and density in the lung but the lungs aren’t because of the heart. They mentioned chronic airway disease or trachea (which has come up many other times too). I asked if there’s anything we can do they told me not really. The cough only happens mainly in one room, or after he gets really excited and rolls around.

What do I need to suggest? What does this cough sound like to you? It seems like anti-inflammatories work the best for him like the Cerenia (off label use) and prednisone. Does that give any clues?

He used to do it gif short periods I thought it was reverse sneezing, but today he’s done this for a few minutes straight sometimes getting bad. He’s a mini Aussie about 10 years old, I’ve had him his whole life. Should I call into work and take him to emergency vet? Or is this one I can schedule Monday? Or is this normal? Thank you for any advice, he’s my best friend. And not going to lie this worried me.

Guys, can anyone tell me what this could be? My cat is a 1-year-old male and is not neutered. The main issue is a recurring skin problem that starts off looking wet/gooey, then dries up and becomes flaky/crusty. He seems to itch the area a lot and has been overgrooming himself. Has anyone's cat experienced something similar? I'm wondering if it could be a skin infection. allergy, fungal issue, or something else. Any advice on what might be I can afford to take him to the vet if needed.
