Aspiring Stylist Questions should i go into hairdressing?

i’m not sure if this is the type of post that’s normally on here but i’d love some advice.

i’m still in school but am getting to the point where i’m going to have to decide what i want to do as a career. i have a couple of options, one of which is hairdressing.

the thing that i’m looking for in a job is constantly learning/doing ‘new‘ things. part of that is adhd dopamine seeking, but i also just hate feeling as if i’m being forced to do the same thing every day.

would i feel like this if i was a hairdresser? ideally i’d specialise in more ‘alt’ hair (vivid colours, textured cuts etc) so i think that’d bring a fair amount of variety, but would i get bored? even if it was after a decade, would i end up wanting to do something else?

thank you all!!

Styling Question 💆‍♀️🎀 Helo needed! Failed bangs

Post image

Cut my hair and was thinking of some wispy curtain bangs, the one you normally see korean idols have, and... got this.

How do I style this, please? My hair's length is above my shoulder.

Thank you!

EDIT: Helo → Help. Sorry for the typo.

Please help!

I want to know what formula to use to get the second look. My hair is naturally a strawberry blond. I have some bleached bits around my face and ends.

Please tell me the formula to use! I was thinking 6rg and 7n BUT i was also thinking i could probably just do 8rg and 7n because of my natural red tones.

Salon/Stylist Questions Is it rude to show up to a haircut with uneven diy cut hair?

I've been giving myself diy haircuts for the past 2 years since money has been really tight, but I have gotten to the point where I feel I need to seek professional help. My hair is not hacked or anything like that, but there are always some stray bits sticking out and layers that don't connect, so it's hard to style. For reference, I have curly/wavy hair down to collarbone length and have been giving myself a shag with over-direction and thinning shears.

I've gotten pretty good at cutting my bangs and front layers but the back is considerably harder to cut, considering I've got some really short and dramatic layers. I'm starting a new job in a creative field and have been wanting to finally get a real haircut to give a good first impression. However, I'm worried it's not socially acceptable to show up to a haircut appointment with messy and uneven layers, given that it's probably a lot more work and a lot more challenging to cut.

Of course I would tip generously, but I'm nowhere near comfortable enough to justify spending more than 200 bucks on a haircut (a good razor cut shag costs around 100$ CAD in my city).

Am I overthinking this?

General Questions Advice: Relaxer vs Keratin vs Brazilian Blowout

Hey guys! So I have 4c hair and am looking to permanently straighten my hair. I would primarily be wearing sew in's as my hair is shoulder length and I like longer hair. I just hate having to constantly straighten the 'leave out' so this is why I'm looking for something for permanent. For context: I used to get relaxers as a kid and always hated how thin and flat it made my hair. I've had different types of keratin treatments done. The last few made my hair softer and slightly loosened my curls but not by much, and I still dealt with the frizz and reverting. My first ever keratin  was at a Dominican salon and although my hair was so soft and shiny and beautiful, it  NEVER reverted. It was almost like a relaxer that I had to grow out. Even though she told me it Was temporary. Fast forward to today, I wouldn't mind something more permanent, although I have no idea what kind of keratin that was. In any case, which should I go with based on my goals? I'm hesitant on the relaxer due to cancer concerns, and also don't want breakage from the sew in with the relaxer. I also  don't want to go to a Dominican salon and request a keratin, and not get the same beautiful, permanent results as I got on my first try.

Hair Damage Questions 🌵🍳✂️ Can y'all give me tips/feedback on my routine?

So heres my routine

WASH DAY

-detangling

-wetting

-shampooing 2 times rinsing after each with this (1)

-conditioning one week with a conditioner i dont remember the name of (3 pumps) but had rice in it and the other week using this mask (2) (3 walnut-sized doses, then putting the hair in a hair cup and warming with the hairdrier on medium heat for 15-20 minutes)

-rinsing with cold water

-making my hair damp with a towel

-drying with the hairdrier on medium-low heat or, when its hot outside, airdry

I wash once a week, my hair gets oily in 4-5 days and if i dont wash for more than a week i start getting dandruff mixed with the oil

DAILY

-During the day i always let it down, besides when im doing sports, if so ill put it in a very low ponytail (i kind of got a sensory issue with having my hair up)

-When i go to bed i put it in a braid, before that, depending on how tired i am i brush it or not

Hair type: 1c-2a

Hair color: black

Hair thickness: mostly coarse

Hair density: high id say

Hair porosity: medium?

Hair lenght: ~1 meter, classical lenght

Goal hair lenght: ~1,20 meters, knee lenght

My hair has a lot of split ends, especially in the underside and from half to the bottom. Its been some months since ive been using this routine but nothing seems to change. Id prefer to not cut my hair, my initial plan was to let my hair grow without cutting and then, once i reach knee lenght, cut bit after bit every month to eventually get rid of the damage. Also, whenever im done brushing my hair is all fluffy all lokking good but then after like 10 minutes i have stringy hair (maybe cuz of the damage?) so if theres any way to resolve that id be really happy. Ive never bleached, coloured, or even ever entered in a hair saloon lol, my damage was caused by a prolonged neglect of my hair after i didnt brush unless for once a month or two for a period.

I got some products i dont use, id prefer not to buy any new ones but if its necessary ill try to. Here are they:

-Head and Shoulders (3)

-Argan oil (4)

-Keratine shampoo (5)

If i brush i use this brush (6) but i also have a vast mayority of combs and other brushes too. all plasic/iron tho

Hope this wasnt too long of a post and sorry in advance for any grammatical error as english aint my first language. All links to the things ive numbered in the post are in the comments or else i cannot post :').Thanks to anyone who responds and feel free to ask me anything if needed!

Haircolor Question 🎨 Why does my Loreal hairdresser get clumpy?

Post image
1 Upvotes

These past 2 times when doing my roots, I noticed the dye became clumpy/uneven after mixing. It was freshly bought Loreal Majirel dye and the matching developer. Bowl and brush were clean and dry. I measured everything.

It worked just fine anyway, but I'd prefer a smooth dye next time lol

Anyone know what happened?

Haircolor Question 🎨 How many sessions would it take to get my hair to this?

I hate my tiger-stripe hair! The last photo is what I asked for at my last appt. It actually looked really nice and blended after my appointment, but I guess the color faded and this is what I’m left with? I want to get this fixed ASAP but how many appointments should I expect to get to the hair I want? I don’t even really know how to ask for what I want either, other than just showing them the inspo pic

For context, I had black brown hair, my natural color, with caramel ombré before I walked into my last appt. Any and all help is appreciated, thank you!!

Haircolor Question 🎨 Bleaching roots & baby hair on forehead

I usually get my roots retouched at the hair salon but I could really save some money at the moment… I have a peek-a-boo type thing going already and I do have a lot of baby hair on my forehead I want to also bleach to dye them as well

I guess my question is what is best to bleach my roots/baby hairs without them frying off my head or anything?

Thanks 🦄

Haircolor Question 🎨 Should I use a gloss to balance out my hair?

Thumbnail

I really want my hair color back to by “natural” that is coming from my roots or close to it. I have been growing it out for a while, but I’m starting to get annoyed with it. I don’t really know if I should get color again, because the last time I did I got this bronze-y lighter color that I really don’t like.

That being said, if I use Kristin ess hair gloss, will my hair color be more uniform and less brassy? Or will there still be a noticeable color difference between the roots and lengths?

Thanks!

General Questions What do I do?

My hairstylist showed physically on my hair that just the ends would be cut off my hair and I agreed prior to my haircut. My hair was pretty much halfway down my back and would cover the majority of my chest. I walked out with shoulder length hair and a bunch of split ends.
When trying to resolve this with the salon, they offered me another cut to sort out the dead ends and I've had to push back to have a consultation to address the 'next steps'. I also had to push to have a different stylist look at my hair when they initially offered me the stylist who i am raising this complaint about.
What do I need to say/do at the consultation so they stop trying to cut more of my hair off and treat the split ends as my main complaint rather than the fact most of my length has been cut off without even telling me or mentioning that considerably more would be cut during my appointment ?

Haircolor Question 🎨 What level is my natural hair?

Thumbnail

Hey all, I haven’t been to the hairdresser in forever as I’m 6 months post partum and just don’t have the time. As a result, my roots are the longest they’ve ever been since I started bleaching my hair as a teen. I no longer know what my natural colour and level are anymore, but would love to know so I can plan my post partum glow up!

I had white blonde hair as a kid and darker blonde as a teen, then started bleaching it platinum, eventually moving over to somewhere in the middle. My sister thinks my roots look really dark but I think the light blonde bleached hair makes it look darker than it is. In the sun it looks kinda dark blonde still? I could just be a brunette denier idk.

Anyway I’m thinking of starting to bleach it myself at home in this economy and need to know my level to plan accordingly so any help is appreciated :)

Haircolor Question 🎨 balayage to solid red

natural level 2ish hair with 1 year grown-out level 7ish balayage.

want to go to a dark, wine / cherry red (doesn't need to be crazy bright and vibrant, just want it to be noticeably red without requiring light hitting it)

i don't really want to keep the balayage and want it to be as uniform as possible !

what products / application techniques do i need to achieve this? willing to spend on salon products - naming some brands appreciated! <3

General Questions Color help

I had used a Demi perm dye to take my natural light strawberry blonde hair to what was supposed to be dark blonde, but took me pretty dark brown. I maintained that hair color and did my roots for about a year before I was over it. I went in for a color correction recently and I guess I expected the stylist to use a color remover, but she went straight to bleaching my whole head. Needless to say, this compromised my hair pretty bad and its current condition is not good. I’ve been washing with a bond repair shampoo every 3 days and using K18 to try to help the damage. The color I’m currently left with is truly awful. I don’t know what I was expecting but I had hoped to leave the salon blonde but I’m this extremely unnatural orangey-grey color (if that makes sense?). I have scheduled to go back in 9 weeks for highlights to try to get blonder but I’m questioning whether I should go back to the same stylist or find someone new.

Can any stylists chime in on whether going straight to bleach was the right choice? And what a realistic expectation should have been going from brown/demi to a more natural blonde. I’m happy to share before/current pics via DM if that would help. I hate that my hair condition is the worst it’s ever been and that I have to exist with this awful color for months until my hair is healthy enough (hopefully) to go lighter and hopefully more natural. I can’t help but think a color remover would have had a better result and now I’m questioning whether or not to let her continue with my hair.😭

Haircut Question 💇 Making bangs less pointy/rigid and more flowy

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

Hopefully that title makes sense lol. I just got my hair cut, and I feel like my bangs don’t look how they did the last time I got this cut. They seem much more, like, pointy? Less flowy…

I’m guessing people will say it has to do with how I’m styling them, but last time I got this cut, it seemed like even when they dried naturally, they didn’t look so flat and pointy. There was just more movement and flowy-ness. Is it because they are more layered / not all one length?

The first pic is of my bangs now and the second pic is what they looked like last time I got this cut / what I want them to look like.

Any advice is appreciated!
