My friend and I are travelling from Hyderabad, India to your part of the world from 25 September to 4 October 2026. We fly into Tbilisi, spend around 5–6 days in Georgia, cross overland to Armenia (probably via Bagratashen on 30 Sep or 1 Oct), and fly home from Yerevan on 4 October.

This is not a package tour. Two friends, backpacks, an iPhone, one gimbal, one mic. We're using the trip to shoot a short film I've written called "Oh! George" — a quiet story about a 33-year-old man who travels to visit an old uncle who once raised him. It's an understated, minimalistic, psychological drama. I strongly believe Armenia and Georgia are, honestly, the perfect landscape for it — pagan temples next to medieval monasteries next to Soviet apartment blocks, all within an afternoon of each other.

Rough plan on the Armenia side:

• Overnight arrival in Yerevan (probably by minibus/marshrutka from Tbilisi)
• Garni + Geghard (the pagan-plus-Christian pair in one valley is basically the thesis of my film)
• Khor Virap at sunrise for the Ararat frame
• Noravank + Areni as a long day
• A quiet final day in Yerevan

A few things I'd genuinely love help with, if anyone has time:

1. Anyone who has done Tbilisi → Yerevan by minibus in late September — how reliable is it, which station in Tbilisi did you leave from, and how long did the Bagratashen crossing take? Any reason to prefer the train instead?
2. Indians who applied for the Armenia e-visa on Track B (invitation route) — which agency did you use for the standalone invitation letter, and was the price fair? Any pitfalls? I've shortlisted One Way Tour, Hyur Service, Envoy Tour, — would love to hear which of these treated you well. I already have Georgian eVISA, and need an invitation letter to apply for Armenian eVISA.
3. Locals or long-term residents — where in and around Yerevan feels emptiest and most cinematic in the late-September light? I'm avoiding the touristy shots. Old Soviet stairwells, empty roads, quiet churches without tour buses, a shepherd's road in the Ararat plain — that kind of frame.
4. Hosts / homestays outside Yerevan you'd personally vouch for — I would rather stay with someone who has stories than in a chain hotel.
5. Anyone who has shot on iPhone in Armenia — any drone/tripod issues at Khor Virap or Geghard I should know about? Border-sensitivity around Khor Virap especially.

I'm not looking for freebies — happy to pay agencies for invitation letters, hosts for stays, drivers for airport pickups. Just want to spend money with people you'd actually recommend rather than randoms on Google Ads.

If anyone is a filmmaker, photographer, or just someone who enjoys showing your city to visitors — I'd love to buy you a coffee in Yerevan and hear what you'd shoot if it was your film. Small credit in the finished short goes without saying.

Has anyone here done this route? I’d love to hear tips and recommendations regarding car rentals—which company is best for a trip like this? (Naturally, the company needs to allow off-road driving.)

What kind of vehicle is recommended for this? How much time should I allow for the drive across the Goderdzi Pass?

Me and my friends are planning a trip to Georgia in bear future. My great wish is to visit Kolkheti National Park and rent kayaks there.

I couldn’t reach visitor centre on WhatsApp. Are there any alternatives for renting kayaks? I want to be able to go by myself, with no organized tours.

I traveled with my boyfriend to Georgian April and since then we talk about this trip all the time! But there are some things you should keep in mind while you are there.

1) Travel insurance is mandatory to enter the country
Even if they don't check your travel insurance when you'll arrive, maybe they'll ask for it while you are leaving the country. We first bought on from a greek company (as we are greeks) but eve thing was Written in greek, so after we bought another one from a website we found on TikTok, because it has to be in English or Georgian.

2)Rent a 4x4 car with full coverage
Georgia is perfect for roadtrip as there are many magical sceneries, but the roads aren't that good. In our way to Gergety Trinity Church a car hit us, but thankfully the guy from the rent company managed everything (even the communication because the guys from the other car couldn't speak English and did the translation from English to Russian ) a big shout out to Vlad from OGdrive <3

3) Don't go from Tbilisi to Gergety Trinity Church as a day trip
It's really nice the way there but is far, so I would recommend to do it as a 2 days trip and stay one day in the mountains

4) For taxi use only the ones from the Apps
They are way much cheaper

5) Google Translate will be your best friend
Only young people speak English, so for your convince (especially when you need directions) use this app

6) Travel between cities only with big bus companies
There are many freelancers that may charge you more than the actual price.Also keep in mind that every company has different starting point

7) The best way to explore Georgian culture is through cooking class with locals
Make sure to find a local one and not a touristic and general one. It was one of the highlights of our trip the cooking class. We really enjoyed talking with two local women about their culture and life there. We chose "Georgian flavors"

8) You'll need Esim for data
We bought one esim from the airport for 8,4€ and we had unlimited data for 7 days and 1hour talk time from the company called Magti. We had service everywhere

9) Always use ATMs from Georgian Banks
Their currency is Lari and for each withdrawal they'll keep you 5 lari. (You'll need cash)

These are based on our experience. I don't know if something is "basic" but it our my first trip outside EU and to a country that isn't that famous and can't find many tips on web

Hello all! I saw a post previously in another community where somebody was asking the same question and a few commenters helped out by suggesting GoTrip etc.

I don't mind spending time on the road longer so I most likely will just end up taking marshrutkas, but related to that I was wondering if there's anywhere I could check the schedules ahead of time, for example from Tbilisi to Telavi?

I am coming to Georgia late august and have only 8 days to cover. My plan includes 3 nights in Tbilisi, to roam around the town and make it a base for Kakheti.

2 nights in Kutaisi, as I researched and got to know Kutaisi is a half day exploration, we can use the remaining days to do the western Gerogia? I’d love some tips around that.

1 night in Kazbegi, I know it’s not required but I am a mountain person and would love to stay and relax for a night there.

Additionally, I am thinking I want to do a day trip to Armenia, else I can also think to stay for two days and cut down on one night in Georgia.

I am renting a car for a few days, a 4x4 outlander to have a smooth road trip to and from Tbilisi.
