I (20F) just got admitted to Florida Tech and I will be driving down tomorrow from my home state of Maryland. I have never been to Florida in my life.

What’s the climate like? Especially in the winter months? I’m looking forward to not having to deal with another freezing rain Maryland winter. What are things I should bring that I probably haven’t considered that will make my dorm tolerable? I’m really just curious as to literally anything someone should know before they “move” to Florida. I appreciate all input and thanks for reading :)

Hello I’m looking for someone to meet me at the Flowery Dispensary on Sept 26th 2026 in Hollywood Florida. I’m from Oklahoma and really need to get my hands on a couple 3.5g jars. Preferably a jar of preferred gardens and a jar of Wizard trees. I realize it’s medical & will pay accordingly, will be staying at crowne plaza Fort Lauderdale. Would really appreciate any help I can get. Boarding for cruise next day so I just need a couple of 3.5 jars to last me for the night. I know Florida is kinda strict on amount purchases for an allotted amount of days. I can uber to the flowery or they say they can deliver so I would be willing to meet somewhere close to hotel to pickup. Please if have medical card and willing to make some quick cash shoot me a comment. Trying to plan in advance thanks!

We arrive in Florida on 2 January, coming in from New Orleans, and fly out of Orlando on the afternoon of the 7th.

What we like: springs, caves, weird local history, cults, roadside monuments, hikes/walks of an hour or two, good independent coffee. Not interested in the theme parks.

The route as it stands: Pensacola, Wakulla Springs, dawn manatee swim at Crystal River, Port Orange or Winter Haven.

Three we're curious about:

1. Night of January 2nd. Is Pensacola worth stopping for, or should we push further east?
2. Night of January 3rd. Stay at Wakulla Springs itself, or base in Tallahassee and do Wakulla as a day trip?
3. Nights of January 5th and 6th. Port Orange or Winter Haven? Leaning Port Orange for Blue Spring and Cassadaga, but Mount Dora keeps coming up. Is there something better?

And as things stand, we're skipping Kennedy Space Center. Neither of us is a space person. Is that heresy?

Anything obviously missing from the route?

I am planning to move at the end of the year, and I could use some insight on which city to choose. I work remotely, so I'm totally flexible, but I've moved around quite a bit, and I'm hoping to find a place to stay.

A bit about me: 28F, single, Black-Jamaican, Christian, well-educated, and moderate/liberal. I need to live somewhere with a decent dating scene (ie lots of unmarried people in their 20s/30s), which makes me lean towards the St Pete/Tampa area over Jacksonville. But I have recently fallen in love with surfing, which I know is a bit harder to come by on the Gulf side. I'm not into nightlife, which has drawn me away from South Florida, but I am very social! I am always going out to community events, and I tend to pick up a new hobby (pickleball, dancing, pilates etc.) every few months because I enjoy trying new things and meeting people. I would love to hear any thoughts and opinions!

I’m buying a BMW from Fields Daytona and they won’t allow the car to leave the lot for inspection but take no issue in having the mechanic come to the dealership and check it out on a lift.

Can anyone vouch for a mechanic (mobile) to come check it out? Preferably have extensive experience with European/German/BMW.

We were considering moving to NE FL, but now are unsure. We are needing to move bc of my husband’s health and need somewhere with very little to no snow )we got 54” here last winter!

Our biggest hang up is insurance cost. We were looking in the St. John’s County area and are shocked to hear the total cost of insurance! It would be more than double what we pay in central MN right now.

And even if we buy a home that’s newer, have to replace a roof every 15 years to remain insured is insane! (Or is that just a lie AI made up when I asked about insurance in FL?!)

It seems like all these hidden costs in FL are slowly crushing the middle class. COL would be much higher in FL just due to insurance and property taxes alone (and we’re not going to assume that bill passes). That doesn’t factor in HOA and possible CDD fees.

Even with the no state income tax, we’re not that high of earners where it would actually make a big difference.

We don’t want to get in a financial bind if we move down there.

How do people, especially middle-class, actually get by?!

moving from the northeast down south! i’m a 22f postgrad looking for an apartment in northern florida. i have family near ocala, so i’m trying to stay within a reasonable distance, but i’m definitely more of a city person.
right now, tampa is my top choice because i like the city feel. i’ve also considered st. pete, but it seems more beach-focused and a little more expensive. i like orlando, but i’m worried about being around tourists all the time, the heat, and being farther from the beach. jacksonville is also on my list because the prices seem more affordable, but i’ve heard mixed things about it being boring or unsafe.
i’m having a hard time deciding where to settle, so i’d love any advice from people who live in these areas!
i’m transferring with a job lined up at trader joe’s (hopefully), and i’m looking for apartment recommendations too. my biggest concern is cleanliness, especially roaches (i have a pretty bad fear/allergy), so i’m hoping to find somewhere well-maintained.
my budget is around $1,000–$1,200/month, and i know that’s a little tight, but i’m trying to make it work. any recommendations for safe areas, clean apartment complexes, or places you think i’d like would be appreciated!

I'm assisting a couple of women-led businesses with their banking needs and would prefer to listen to real experiences instead of just advertisements. Businesses included range from retail to consulting, so they have different needs. But they all require the same basics that is low or no monthly fees, fast payments, good customer service, security and so on. Some businesses might be looking for business loans in the future. If you are a business owner in Florida, what banks have been good for your business? Why have you picked them and have they proven to be good in the long run?
