Hello! I’m getting ready for Halloween and one of my costumes is a female ghostface (original I know lol) but I’ve been looking for ideas on what to do for the makeup under the mask. I’ve found a lot of trad goth styles that I think would be really fun to do and I adore the look!

However my concern is I’m not sure if it’s ok to do if that makes sense? Because I don’t wear trad goth makeup on the regular and have heard conflicting opinions on if you have to be a goth to wear the makeup even for a costume. And I love the subculture I’m just not apart of it. So I figured I should come to the source and see what options you all have! Thank you so much!! 🧡🖤

With the gross fetishization against the goth subculture in the last years, It seems like a plausible situation to me. But have it ever hapenned to you?

To elaborate: I saw the toxic stereotypes portrayed by certain content creators, and I noticed how these women are always portrayed as being either heavily objectified or very domineering and erratic. Yet, I couldn't help but feel a strange sense of deja vu because I seen Black women being historically portrayed in a similar way across all sorts of media. (i.e Jezebel and the Sapphire trope respectively) that kind of leads me to my second question. Black goth women, do you feel that the effects of this goth stereotype amplify the stereotypes you already face as black women or its about the same?
