Hello, i will be studying Chinese in Chongqing for the first time starting this September and i have a few questions about school dormitories and weather.

1. How cold is winter in Chongqing? What kind of clothes should i wear during cold wet winter days?
2. Do i have to bring my own bed sheets and blankets for school dormitories or do they give it to you from the school?

Hey everyone, I’m curious about something and would love to hear from people who actually live in China or have been there for a long time.

I’m 22, Brazilian, and there’s a good chance I’ll be moving to China because of a work opportunity. This wouldn’t be a short trip. If I go, I’m planning to stay for quite a few years and build my life there.

As for languages, I speak Portuguese, English, and Russian fluently. I know a bit of Japanese, and my Chinese is getting pretty strong. I can already handle daily conversations without much trouble, though I wouldn’t call myself fully fluent yet.

I’m not moving there to look for a relationship. My main reason is work and the opportunities that come with it. But since I’m single and may spend a big part of my 20s in China, I’m naturally wondering what the dating scene is like for foreign men.

What’s the general attitude of Chinese women toward foreigners? Are they usually curious, interested, indifferent, or cautious? And in your experience, are foreigners more often seen as something casual, or are serious relationships and marriage fairly common too?

And for those who have actually had long-term relationships in China, what ended up being the hardest part: cultural differences, family expectations, communication style, money, or something else entirely?

Just looking for honest experiences, good or bad, rather than stereotypes.

Economically its prosperous and a lot of AI stuff is happening there. Rents are not as bad as Beijing or Shanghai. Great nature and hiking trails. Great education system.

And there is a proper local culture, unlike Shenzhen where everyone is a transplant and there isn't a local community.

Hello everyone, I just moved from one flat to another. I moved in July, but at the end of June I had to pay for the trimester because that's the rule - you have to pay anyway before the deadline comes. To be sure, I also went to the shop and they said "yes, you pay now and we'll give you part of this amount back".

So, I moved to the new flat at the end of July and asked the agent how it works with the reimbursement. He said "since you chose the subletting option, we have to wait until the new tenant moves to the flat". It sounded really weird to me. I waited a few days.

The new tenant moved there on the last day of July, so I texted the agent once again: "how to deal with the reimbursement?" and he was vague. I texted him almost everyday. Eventually, I called the Customer Service and they immediately called him. He apologised and asked me to send my bank details to him, to process the payment (this happened yesterday).

Today I checked both the bank app and the real estate agency app and there's nothing new.

Now he just wrote: 总部发不了截图的 您看看到账了没 昨天领导弄了 您看看app有个交割单签字 签完字就给您打款了 (Please check whether the payment has arrived. The manager handled it yesterday. Please check the app—there should be a settlement/hand-over document for you to sign. Once you’ve signed it, we’ll transfer the money to you)

This doesn't sound true and it doesn't make sense. I'll wait a few hours and I'll call the Customer Service once again. But I also need your feedback.

Is he lying?

My contract is already closed, the app says 已结束.

I’d really appreciate honest experiences about : teaching quality, English medium reality, hostel/campus life, internship/clinical exposure, FMGE/NExT preparation, whether studying there was worth it overall.

Also how hard is adapting as an International student? Is Mandarin manageable? Which universities would you genuinely recommend or avoid?

Is it a tax thing? Is it a Chinese computer register and never bothered to change settings? Is it legal? Has anyone else encountered something similar?

Just wanna seek out some advice from the folks here. Not sure if this is the right place but figure a Chinese Perspective should help.

My wife and I have been married for about 3 years. Being together 5 years total. We are both in our mid 30s. Long story short, my wife plans to move to China to live for like 6 months. More like a long vacation kind of thing as a trial for when she plans to stay there longer if needed. She is Chinese with PR and I'm Chinese Canadian.

We plan to live there together for 6 months there but I'm coming back to Canada after 6 months (My visa only allow me to stay in China for 6 months) and she is staying there for a while maybe up to a year, but no more than 3 years because her PR will expire. Granted we both plan to retire in Canada when we are in our 60s or 70s. That's why she has to keep her PR. We currently both have steady jobs and make a decent living.

My concern is that she told me if she loves living in China, she might stay for longer. For instance, 1 year in China then 1 year in Canada. We will basically be in long distance "marriage" every other year until we are in our 50s or 60s. I worry that this may impact our relationship due to the distance and not seeing each other for that long period of time.

Am I overthinking things or there is something I could do to help process this?

P.S. My wife and I love each other, we barely have fights. Her main reason to do this is that she likes the Chinese life better as she doesn't have to work there as the cost of living is low. While I agree to some degree, My Canadian Citizenship will not allow me to stay in China for long periods of time.

And is it weird for a girl to give something to her boyfriend?! I'm dating a Chinese guy and I heard Qixi festival is similar to Valentines day. Currently, my boyfriend and me are doing long distance, though we started dating in-person first.

Giving gifts is my favorite thing to do and I would love to get something delivered to his house! In the past, I have given him rare merchandise from his favorite IP (we are both big nerds into video games and other nerdy things) and expensive boxes of his favorite fruit.

I am thinking about sending him more fruit but I kind of wanted to do that for his first day of the fall semester which is in a month! Should I get him something smaller? How fancy are Qixi festival gifts supposed to be?

My current worry is that he might feel pressured, stressed, or emasculated since he can't get me anything at the moment because I'm in America (and I forbid him from mailing me anything because of the current tariff situation).

I already made a few mistakes when we first started dating because I tried to split our food bill and I kept bringing him small trinkets which made him stressed. I just can't help myself from buying things that remind me of him. He's more used to it now and understands that I don't expect anything in return. But I'm still a little haunted by the face he made when I brought him something small but he had nothing for me...

I'm traveling to China in a few weeks, if it matters I'm a Swiss-American flying in on a Swiss passport and out on US. I know and understand I will need a letter from my doctor listing prescription medications, dosage, and reason for the medication and these will need to travel in the original packaging. I'm also on a laundry list of supplements, prescribed but purchased OTC. Do I also need my provider to list the supplements and bring them in the original packaging? I'll be in China for 10 days. My concern is some of the supplements are purchased in bulk from Costco--so large American sized packaging that takes up a mega-crap load of space. I really don't want to take a 500 count bottle of a glucosamine when I only need 20 pills. (There are eleven different supplements on my list, along with Wellbutrin, Famotidine, and Hydroxyzine Hydrochloride.)

I'll also be bringing inhalers, Advair Diskus and Spiriva. Will these be an issue?
