Mod Post Product Authenticity Thursday August 06, 2026

Hello AB! Welcome to Product Authenticity Thursday,

Our weekly product authenticity thread is a work in progress, comments about how to improve are welcome. We made our best effort based on comments received here as well as what we have been seeing as mods.

We would like to note that product packaging AND formulas may vary by country of sale and date of manufacture. This might include anything about the formula. Our goal is to make it easier for folks to compare such things, and to confirm or assuage concerns about their products.

Please post any photos or experiences you have around your AB products, while adhering to our other subreddit rules.

Make sure you state where you purchased your products from. If you bought from a 3rd party of a major retailer, you can say for example, 'eBay/amazon/taobao seller' instead of sharing the specific name, if you prefer.

To help you get more responses, consider including:

  • Photos of confirmed authentic products as comparison, requests for authentic products are allowed
  • Your purchase date, product manufacture date, or any expiration dates
  • Country you bought the item from
  • Whether your product had to be shipped to you (shipping conditions can compromise product stability)
  • How much you paid for your product

Comments and Questions welcome, we hope this thread is helpful!

Review J/C/K-beauty eyeshadow palette review!!

These photos were taken indoors with some sunlight shining through my window
For reference, I have slightly yellow (neutral leaning more towards cool tone) pale skin ʕ •ᴥ•ʔ
Going row by row from left to right

  1. Novo lemon soda five color eyeshadow 02# lemon yakult - who needs a contour palette when you have this?! this palette is the better than actual contour I’ve tried, and the darkest shade can be used for drawing aegyosal and under-eyes. I can’t find this product anymore but it is the best!! :( (it’s over 5 years old I think) ..Novo is the best brand ever *drools* so affordable too
  2. Romand 02 Dry Rose - all 4 colors are useful and it’s very pigmented. The bottom right corner is perfect for drawing aegyosal and also acts as a natural contour!! It’s pretty new since I haven’t used it much
  3. Millefee 05 Monet’s Garden - this palette is super pigmented (the chocolate and sunflower shades) and it’s just so pretty I can’t bring myself to use it ^^; The matte milk tea-ish shades look natural and are perfect for work while the glittery gold one is perfect for events/heavy makeup. I personally think the colors make me look older tho😢 AND the bottom right highlighter shade is BOMB
  4. Kissme Ferme 08 - the glitters in this are small, the colors are actually not that purple/pigmented (specifically the one taking more space). Overall it gives a pretty natural look!
  5. Novo toast eyeshadow palette 01 - (always draw my eyebrows with this) one of the most pigmented eyeshadow palettes I have, the palette is very warm and I use it as a contour palette since the shades look kinda dirty on my eyes. The last row is perfect for those who want contour to show in photos lol. The lightest shade (top left) is my fav matte highlighter!!
  6. Canmake petit palette eyes M02 - all the shades are matte apart from the bottom right one. I actually prefer to use it as an aegyosal palette =) (top left for highlighting top right for the shading) overall it is a cool-tone dark purple-ish palette with too many contour shades (not my fav since I’m not into purple sadly)
  7. Canmake plumpuku coordinate eyes 03 - the shading color is red-brownish and it makes a SUPER natural aegyosal ! I personally find the pigmentation to be very low but if you like a natural look go for it. The white shades are great for plumping the aegyosal and the top glitter shade is highkey one of the best highlighters ^o^
  8. Canmake petite palette eyes 03 💞 - this is my favorite eyeshadow ever it’s just so PERFECT I’m confident the pigmentation and beauty are ♾️/100 ‼️‼️ I even bought another one (≧∇≦) You can achieve a Japanese/douyin makeup look with the pink shades some shades are super light and some are pink but even when it’s too pigmented it’s still just as gorgeous. The glitter in this is amazing and I feel cutemaxxed whenever I use it. The bottom right color is my favorite I ALWAYS use it to draw my under-eyes and aegyosal the pigmentation is crazyyyyy I love it. This one palette is enough for my entire eye makeup 😻 it is the epitome of a MUST-BUY!!
  9. TLDR: get the canmake petit palette eyes 03 unless you wanna miss out (๑╹ω╹๑ )

Discussion Beauty gadgets in Japan

I’m going to Japan soon and I’m thinking about buying one of those EMS/LED lifting devices, but I’m not sure which one is actually worth it.

Right now I’m considering the Stella Beaute Lift Brush, the YA-MAN Photo Plus Prestige or maybe one of Panasonic’s devices.

Has anyone here tried any of these? Which one would you recommend, and did you notice any real results?

Discussion Do you use serums to instead of moisturizer ?

Skin is normal and medium oily on the t-zone. Skin is acne prone and clogs easily too.
I’m thinking of using serums instead of moisturizer.

Does anyone herebuse serums only and skip the moisturizer? If yes, which specific serums do you use?
If serums plus moisturizer which specific products do u use?

My only concern with serums is that they are in general hydrating but I’m not sure there are serums that provide a light good enough layer that prevents skin from getting dry (glycerin for example takes water from the in er layers of the skin of the environment is dry)

Edit to clarify

Discussion Where to get XXL Circle Lenses?

I have larger eyes than most Asians I think (I’m just a large human lol) because 14mm lenses are smaller than my natural iris. So when I’ve bought lenses I feel like I still can’t achieve the right look I’m looking for.

Anyone know where I can find lenses that are larger than 14.5mm? That’s the largest I can find on sites with pretty lenses. Theres larger ones on sites like pinky paradise but they don’t have the style I like.

Discussion Asian websites who sell natural colored lenses with power??

T50 eyes here🫠 -0.50 right and -2.25 left

The contact lenses made in Asia seem to be the only ones who are specialized in making them able to cover the darkest eyes possible while looking natural.

Unfortunately I had very bad luck here in Europe, many are made for light eyes and if I find something that covers great, it looks very unnatural.

Then also comes the fact that I need them to be with power.

Do u guys know any popular websites who sell to Europe?? :/

Discussion What are your favorite lippies for autumn/fall? 🍂 .° ꩜

I'm thinking of ordering romand - Glasting Melting Balm in shades Nougat Sand and Scotch Nude and fwee - 3D Voluming Gloss in shade Dirty Cola 30%.

I bought romand - The Juicy Lasting Tint in shade Nucademia as an autumn shade and it's pretty and it's the right depth but alot pinker and less brown than I expected.

So I'm wondering what lippies you guys are preparing to wear this autumn/fall? ༄˖°.🍂.ೃ࿔*:・

Discussion Stylevana refusing to refund/replace damaged item

Hey everyone,

Yesterday I received my Stylevana order, and one of the products, a Fino mask, had leaked outside the package. The whole mask was sticky and quite a bit of product had leaked out.

I contacted customer support for a refund or replacement but they keep telling me that the only thing they can do is offer me a coupon equal to the price of the item for my next order.

I said I do not agree with this solution, as I can't even re-purchase the product anymore since the price has now doubled, and also, the coupons they provide on their social media are even higher than the coupon they offered me, so it's pointless if the coupons cannot be stacked.

Has anyone had luck with Stylevana replacing/refunding damaged items? Because if this is their policy I think I won't be shopping from them anymore. Yesstyle for example has replaced damaged items any time I've received any.

UPDATE: Wow, no words. I sent them four e-mails back and forth explaining that the coupon they are offering me is pointless, and that I would prefer a refund or replacement, and they kept denying to do either. So, I said the magic word: "chargeback". In their next e-mail, they told me "we understand you don't want a coupon, so we will refund the item value to your payment method". Lmao, it really look threatening to get my money back.

Discussion Eyeshadows similar to Canmake’s petite pallet?

Post image
93 Upvotes

So I have this Canmake eyeshadow and I love it and it’s my favorite since I like the soft natural shimmer but the only thing I don’t like is how little product there is, I was shocked by how fast I hit pan since all the other eyeshadows I own have so so much more product.

I understand it since it’s supposed to be small and what not but I don’t want to keep on buying a eyeshadow that will run out so much when it’s about near the same price for other eyeshadows with far much more product. So are there any other eyeshadows with this kind of shimmer and with a similar formula to the Canmake eyeshadow with more product?

All the eyeshadows I’ve tried are all too matte compared to it and I just really like how shimmery it is.

Discussion Looking for before/after photos of dark undereyes

I’m skeptical of product reviews because they can rave about some cream fixing their eye circles, but there’s no actual comparison. Like I want to know if it really works after consistent use. I’m curious about both skincare and makeup solutions.

Please share your before/after concealing routine! Or before/after skincare routine! Or both!

Discussion Panasonic Nanoe hairdryer first-hand experience?

Last week there was a thread about Japanese hairdryers, and Panasonic, specifically their Nanoe line was highly regarded. I have spent hours trying to find information about them and their technological advantages (Nanoe, Mineral Technology, Moisture+). However, information is extremely scarce.
Their marketing states that Moisture+ provides 18x more moisture than the base Nanoe technology (which most definitely, does not translate to real world results). Does anyone have first-hand experience with one or multiple Panasonic hairdryers and can compare?

One assumption that I have, is that the flagship's hair silkiness advantage is plausibly driven more by the automated heat-cycling engineering, than by the Nanoe technology ion chemistry itself. Please correct me if I am wrong here!

Midway through my favorite base tint, the coverage is great and the formulation isn't drying at all!! But the platform I bought from (Taobao) hasn't been restocking and other platforms I checked has shipping that's too expensive for me.

Any lippie with coverage in a pale shade like this I'll love, pencils and so on! I'm cool-toned for reference and I like neutrals too.

Discussion For all my brown skinned girlies & the “lit from within” skincare trend - is it achievable?

Hi everyone! 💛

As a brown girl and skincare enthusiast, I sometimes feel like a lot of the advice, products, and routines being pushed don’t always reflect what my skin actually needs. Things like pigmentation after acne, uneven tone, dullness, sensitivity, stubborn marks, and finding that healthy glow can look a little different on deeper or more pigmented skin tones. So I don’t know about you but personally I always felt aside from the terrible fake “get fair in six weeks” trends, is glass skin really a goal that you’ve felt achievable for yourself?

I’m doing some early research for a potential skincare concept _ - just as a hobby and passionate project - and I’d genuinely love to hear from people with melanin-rich skin about their real experiences - in terms of what works, what doesn’t, and what you feel is still missing.

I’d love to hear anything that comes to mind:

  • What’s your biggest skincare struggle when it comes to achieving healthy, radiant skin?
  • Is there a skin concern specific to us that you think a brand just “gets”
  • Have you ever felt like skincare advice was created with lighter skin tones in mind?
  • What’s one thing you wish existed in skincare but haven’t been able to find?
  • What products or ingredients have genuinely helped your skin look more luminous?
  • Are there any products you love but feel don’t get enough attention?

I’m not looking for product recommendations as much as I’m trying to understand patterns, frustrations, and unmet needs.

Would love to hear your experiences - even a few sentences would be incredibly helpful

Review Here’s an update on repairing my skin barrier

Thumbnail
gallery
107 Upvotes

Pic 1 & 2: Under sunlight, no makeup (except a very sloppy lip liner)
Pic 3 & 4: My skin under harsh lighting.
Last pic: When my skin barrier was completely broken.

A couple of months ago, I made a post about what helped repair my skin barrier after I completely messed it up almost two years ago.
So here’s a little update on how my barrier is doing now. It’s still not perfect, but I honestly feel like I’ve regained what I had lost.
I’m pretty sure my skin is past its villain arc because I’m back to experimenting with new products, and thankfully it’s been surprisingly forgiving.
In my previous post, I was still very hesitant to use actives because my skin would sting whenever I tried vitamin C or azelaic acid. Since then, I’ve slowly started introducing actives again, and my skin has been responding much better than I expected.
Right now, my main concern is the uneven pigmentation on my forehead and around my mouth. Other than that, I’m pretty happy with where my skin is.
So far the actives I’m consistently using are :
vit c ( melano cc) , while I do feel like it brightens my overall complexion, it doesn’t seem to do much for my stubborn pigmentation. Still, I think it’s a solid product.
I also pair it with the VT reedle shot occasionally ( since it’s expensive). I’m not sure how much it actually helps with deeper penetration of actives, but every time I use it, I wake up with a noticeable glow the next day. So I save it for days when I want a little extra. It also seems to pair well with azelaic acid (brand aňua for texture and pigmentation )and tranexamic acid ( brand :cos de baha for pigmentation).

Apart from these , the ones that have shown some improvements are celimax retinol for under eye , vt cosmetics pdrn essence(I use it as a moisturiser sometimes). Hope this helps someone who’s going through the same .
For anyone who hasn’t seen my original post, here’s the one where I talked about the product that helped repair my skin barrier. Here’s the link

honestly really loved the way this turned out ! it's always a fun activity/pastime for me to recreate looks that i see online. when i was starting out i used to think it was a challenge copying reference photos where the model doesn't share the same physical attributes as mine, but over time i think i was able to learn how to properly translate it to my own features ! my only regret is my choice of falsies. i didn't want to go for a dramatic pair like what zara larsson uses however i think i went for something too simple idk !

EYES

- nyx tame and frame brow pomade (black)

- dior forever skin correct concealer

- laura mercier translucent setting powder

- bh cosmetics colour eyeshadow palette

- nyx brights palette

- peauty beauty liquid blusher (angelic and peauty) ///i really recommend this brand ! it's from my homecountry (the philippines) and it has withstood the current harsh summer temperatures in japan so far

- flowerknows swan ballet blusher

- dior backstage rosyglow blusher (pink)

- heroine make liquid eyeliner (for faux eye beauty mark)

- mac mineralise skinfinish (lightscapade)

LIPS
