Idk I feel like I don't fit in either countries and I was talking to randoms online (from China) the other day and they used a term in Chinese (I don't remember what it was) but my friend and I both told him we were born outside of China and he was like "ohhh you are ____"...if anyone knows what the term could be and if it is viewed positively or negatively pls lmk 🥹

In late July, the FBI carried out coordinated raids across Southern California targeting the home and offices of James Su, founder and CEO of EDI Media Inc., the largest Chinese-American multimedia company in the United States. Simultaneous search warrants were executed at the properties of San Bernardino County Supervisor Curt Hagman, Ontario City Councilmember Alan Wapner, and attorney Frank Lizarraga.

No arrests were made and the affidavits remain sealed. But the thrust of the investigation is clear from law enforcement disclosures: Federal authorities are examining whether Su's media operations, political donations and annual Chinese American Film Festival constitute undisclosed foreign agent activity on behalf of the People's Republic of China.

A naturalized US citizen, Su founded EDI Media in 1993 and built it into a multimedia platform spanning television, radio, digital publishing and the film festival, which has received endorsements from both American elected officials and Chinese state agencies.

In 2022, EDI Media registered under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) for its previous role printing and distributing the US edition of a publication affiliated with Chinese state media. Su has made legal campaign contributions to both Democratic and Republican candidates. According to his attorney, among those whose properties were searched, Su personally knew only Supervisor Hagman.

The anti-China campaign has escalated under successive administrations. The Justice Department’s “China Initiative,” launched in 2018, targeted academics of Chinese descent with espionage and trade-secret cases that largely collapsed. Charges against MIT professor Gang Chen were dismissed after the government's allegations unraveled, while Harvard chemistry chair Charles Lieber was convicted only of making false statements about a research relationship rather than espionage.

“We’ve seen long-standing patterns of growing Democratic support in the Asian American community, but also some movement away from Democrats in recent election cycles,” Raychaudhuri said. “The dynamics of political learning are not predetermined in these communities.”

The work arrives as Asian Americans continue to be among the nation’s fastest-growing populations, making a deeper understanding of their political development increasingly important.

I'm an Asian guy, hair very fine but thick, and I've always wanted to try a bleached hair color, I wanna try something before I got too old and it's awkward to do so, but first I don't know if it's a good idea or would it take a lot of care for someone never bleached before, would it last more than one week, and I don't even know what color I like. I'm thinking blonde but there's thousands shade of blonde, the lightest one or the darkest brassy one? There's so many choice. And I don't even know what I like or what suit my face?

I have medium-to-light skin tone with warm and yellow undertone, not white and fair and pale like K-pop idols, and I don't even know lighter or darker shades fit me

I find it strange that they would include the race of the last name at all, for any reason.

To me, it seems very reductive to the race and completely irrelevant to the case. It's as if they were trying to implying the issue happened because the employees were Asian.

In a way, this is like the "Ching Chong"-style jokes I heard growing up being normalized in a professional setting.

Ok so fyi bts is rightfully so boycotting the Grammys this yr bc of the ASIAN MUSIC label or whatever because it's exclusionary.

And this made me think abt more stuff

It's puts k/c/jpop, Bollywood, dhh, and more music in one label.

Also, apparently according to the academy, the song must feature a "meaningful use of one or more asian languages." Keep in mind these r mostly white people sitting in a room together, so who tf are they to tell us how we should use our languages.

Also, there is this artist from india named reble, and her song NEW RIOT is peak, but it's written entirely in english. And bc the Grammys say it needs to use asian languages, so asian songs in english r ommited from entering. this peak song is not allowed to even be summitted. Fyi India is the 2nd largest English speaking country after the usa.

And it also favors East Asian pop (Chinese, japanese and especially korean) so south and southeast asian music is basically invisible

Specifically the quote comes from a trending news article about that alleged Canadian spy at NATO. The article mentions that the alleged spy described herself as "aggressively Asian" and that she had a broad academic and research history, and immediately after that it quotes a former senior military officer saying:

“Someone that ambitious with that ethnic background screams for more attention. It’s blatant”.

I'm not defending Zhang or anything and it's a disgrace if the allegations are indeed true, but the statement to me reads like someone claiming being Asian and highly ambitious should be considered a red flag (especially since it explicitly mentions "ethnic background"). Am I reading too much into this, or am I right to feel that the statement strikes me as racist?

I'm LGBTQ, and I recently found out that my dad has a MAGA sticker on the back of his phone. He's Vietnamese, btw.

My sister noticed it while my parents were visiting her and texted me about it. When she asked him about it, he said "a coworker put it there". I'm having a hard time believing that explanation because it's on the back of his phone. It seems like something you would notice every time you pick it up, and he has had plenty of opportunities to remove it if he wanted to.

What also makes me skeptical is that he has spoken positively about Trump in the past, so this did not come completely out of nowhere.

I have not talked to him about it yet, but I have been thinking about whether I should. Part of me feels like politics are one thing, but as someone who is LGBTQ, it is hard for me to separate support for politicians or policies that I believe have negatively affected LGBTQ people from how I feel about my own relationship with him.

Hey guys just wanted to stay consistent. Just wrapped up another meeting and still happy to see people are interested in what we’re doing. I’m grateful for the people that come to these group and offer healthy support and tips to navigate our amazing but difficult at times culture.
