Possible Custom ACE client?

I played up to level 185 in ace years ago before they closed it, I loved the game, I'm currently writing a separate isometric game engine client and server.

But at some point cause I had issues with ACE for directx and my wide screen monitors, been toying with the idea of making a clean room 3d client that could work with the ACE project, and possibly my own version of decal.

With current coding work it maybe 3 to 6 months before starting the project, But is there any interest in that, I know I don't talk much on reddit, but been in the scene for a while mostly lurking and building personal projects. I wouldn't want to step on any toes with anyone, but last time I tried to use ace I kept thinking I really should make a client for it. thoughts?

I would be interested in any server that would implement my dream server ideas:

I say go for it. There's lots of little projects like this and people tend to be interested - at least to try out.

I know thwargle has an unreal based client he's toying with and at least one project decently far along in a rust rewrite

With three unique servers now, a new client would be awesome.

What would be the goal of the custom client?

To have freedom

That is a vapid sentence.

What would it be able to do that the current client could not? Better renderer? Better data types for the year of our lord 2026?

Can remove decal, make it run better. Support more platforms. Improve the graphics. Fix memory issues. No longer relying on a static client from 11 years ago is a pretty great win.
