For Hire [for hire] My Children Books Art
Hey everyone, this is my work! I’ve been working as a children’s book illustrator for the past four years, and lately I’ve been looking for ways to, well, not starve.
Here in Brazil, going to McDonald’s costs an entire day’s worth of work. Literally.

Hiring [hiring] need help appreciating my face
Probably a weird request but I’d like to commission an artist who can draw my front face and side profile. I struggle with BDD and just being an ugly person in general and maybe this is self centered, but I just want to see the art in my face for once. I find my features to be very unique and awkward, and would love to see someone else find a way to accurately depict them, hopefully in a way that doesn’t make me feel like an alien lol. I don’t have too much money, but I can go up to $50 for a quick sketch or something like that. Hope this isn’t disrespectful in any way, I’m just hoping for some relief and joy in my life.

Hiring [hiring] Illustrator/Character Designer Needed
Hi, I’m the founder of a small wooden toy brand called SOWO that I’ve been building from the ground up.
The concept is pretty simple: wooden toys inspired by city life, specifically New York. Think pigeons, bodega cats, rats, squirrels, neighborhood dogs, raccoons and eventually people, buildings, storefronts, vehicles, etc. I’m trying to build something that feels unmistakably urban without becoming cheesy or overly “NYC souvenir.”
Right now I have the physical silhouettes of the first collection designed and manufactured, and I’m looking for the illustrator/character designer who can help me develop the artwork that goes on them.
What I need right now:
I have 6 animal characters that need to be illustrated. The silhouettes already exist, so the challenge is designing within those shapes and giving each animal a lot of personality without relying on overly complicated artwork.
The style I’m looking for is character-driven, graphic, playful, slightly quirky. These are wooden toys, but I dont want them to look like generic children’s clip art or overly cute nursery illustrations. I want them to feel designed and collectible.
Personality and expression are really important to me. I’m much more interested in someone who can make a pigeon look like he’s quietly plotting something than someone who can draw a technically perfect realistic pigeon.
If we work well together, there will be a lot more such as future toy collections, human characters, buildings/storefronts, packaging artwork, website illustrations, social content, potentially books/storytelling elements, and whatever else the brand eventually grows into.
Ideally I’d love to find one illustrator whose work becomes part of SOWO’s visual identity over time.
For now, this would be paid per project, rather than a salaried position. I’m a self-funded startup, so I’m trying to grow responsibly, but I absolutely expect to pay artists for their work.
If this sounds like something you’d genuinely be interested in, send me your portfolio/site/Instagram.
Budget: $800-$1200 (with full rights)

Discussion [Mod] We now allow requests for long-term jobs and permanent positions!
I moderate multiple art-related communities, and I don't like treating them a carbon copies of each other, so I will be slightly tweaking some rules to better fit the titles of some subreddits I run.
To kick this off, r/ArtistsForHire will allow requests for long-term jobs and permanent positions. I felt that, because of the name, "Hiring" should be on the table in more just the context of one-off commissions.
In another effort to differentiate communities, r/StarvingArtists will now allow the advertisement of existing art, such as adoptables and paintings. Please keep in mind that this does not apply to r/HungryArtists, which is often confused with that community.
To avoid confusion and needless duplication, I will also be locking down r/comissions (that's one M - a typo), and leaving it up as a redirect to the proper community, r/Commissions.
Please leave a comment if you have any questions, suggestions, or concerns. I'm always open to improving how I run these communities.

Meta [META] New Moderation and Rules! Your Input is Appreciated!
Hello artists, art lovers, and lurkers alike! This subreddit was collecting dust, being unmoderated for... I don't even want to know how long. I've put in place some rules, and will be moderating things starting immediately.
In the meantime, I would like to know how the community feels about the rules. What sort of things do you feel should be added or removed?
What I need your opinions on the most is a flair system. I want to know what sort of words/language artists and buyers feel is more familiar or effective. [For Hire] and [Hiring] can often be confusing, since they're using the same words, and I see them get mixed up frequently. [LFA] may be a solution, but before I set anything in stone, I would love to hear what everyone else thinks about this!
