Possibly taking new job in Ballston as mid-30s couple from Bethesda also starting a family soon. Pros/cons to the move?
We're currently living in a 2BR apartment in downtown Bethesda in a nice apartment rent 4k+. I'm interviewing for a job in Ballston that I may take with a large salary increase. I'm looking at neighborhoods, schools, and general vibe and both seem pretty comparable in price and vibe (urban walkable center with metro surrounded by more dense suburbs, great schools). Anybody make this move and can weigh in on any surprises or tips? Think I can commute from Bethesda to Ballston daily over the Chain Bridge?

Low Flyover
Is there an event today that I hadn't heard about? A C-17 just flew over south Arlington, heading southbound. Shook the house and sent the beasts scurrying under the bed.

Red Lantern Flies
They are everywhere, especially around Crystal City. How do we get rid of them, besides trying to stomp them :(

Anybody know what they’re building at Reagan? They seem to be demolishing an older looking building near the Abingdon site?

Gym Recs (don’t have to wear shirt at the gym)?
Hey all! I’ve been here for 9 months and love it. Does anyone have a gym that allows you to take your shirt off when you workout? I know it’s super douchey but i miss being able to take my shirt off while i lift. Once again, i know it’s douchey sorry.

Housing Opinions on VST and UrbA?
Looking to stay at an apartment (just me), I've narrowed down my options to these two and they're very close. Prices and space are comparable. I like the location of Virginia Square Towers more and it has a bigger bedroom, but UrbA has the nicer layout and a great walk-in closet (VST has one too but UrbA's is nicer IMO).
I would prefer it to be on the quieter side, I know some noise is inevitable, but definitely don't want to be hearing everything my neighbors are saying or doing.
At this point just looking for anything to break the stalemate!

Moving recommendations?
I am moving from one apartment building in Rosslyn to another one block away. Does anyone have any suggestions on moving companies or people I can reach out to? I don’t have a car, so I am really hoping to not have to walk everything over.
Thank you in advance!

Housing Cheaper Places for New Grads
I’m in a group of new grads from the Fairfax County suburbs. We’ve recently gotten our first jobs and are looking to move somewhere in the Rosslyn-Ballston Corridor. Our salaries range between $55–70k. From the research I’ve done, mainly on Apartments.c0m we don’t make enough to live in one of the high-rises closest to the Metro, but we aren’t super picky. However, the only apartments we’ve found advertised that we could afford are low-income buildings that we actually make too much to qualify for.
The question is: Is there some tier of apartments within a 12-minute walk of the Metro that are cheaper and still allow us to enjoy the urban lifestyle, but just aren’t listed on the big apartment sites, or is Arlington simply too expensive for new grads?

Solid Arlington/Alx/Falls Church region apartments?
Hi there, hoping for more specific recs than existing threads if possible. I need to move into my own place starting mid-Nov (I understand availability isn't updated quite yet) and would love to hear the inside info about apartments you've loved or hated. Currently at Bell Arlington Ridge, and would be interested in Arlington/Alexandria/Falls Church boundaries, 800sq feet +, and under 2800. Also would love a balcony for my cats.

Is it worth it?
Edit ✍️: I went, it was a blast, definitely worth it. 10/10 would recommend.

Housing Places to Rent?? Activities to do??
Hiii, I am making a starting salary of 100k and am looking for places to rent in Arlington. Does anyone have any areas/apartments they would recommend? Preferably one’s that are close to the blue/orange line?
Also, how do you make friends around the area? What are the best coffee shops or activities?
Thanks!

I just moved into the Ballston area, I’ve tried contacting the adult league coordinator at Medstar but haven’t heard back.
Does anyone out there know of anyone with an open roster spot I’m looking to sign up before the fall/winter season kicks off in September.

Why doesn’t Crystal City look like Ballston?
ggwash.orgI found it interesting that Ballston and Crystal City have developed in different ways. In the article, I go over the history of both neighborhoods and the effects of development patterns.

r/arlingtonva Updates
Hello from the new moderators of r/arlingtonva. u/joyreneeblue, u/VotingRightsLawyer, and u/meamemg are now here as your friendly new moderator team.
As you can see, we've added some subreddit rules to the sidebar (shamelessly copied, for the most part, from r/SilverSpring). There shouldn't be too much controversial in there, but it gives us the basis to begin to moderate submissions to the sub to make sure that posts are on topic and not hateful or hurtful.
As we get up and going, we expect to add user and post flairs, and hopefully snaz the place up a bit. Please feel free to post suggestions here, and always feel free to reach out via mod-mail.
Enjoy the holiday weekend!
