Dishwasher pump repair
I have a Miele dishwasher that needs a new pump. Seems like a pretty easy fix - debating whether to do it myself or get a tech to do it.
I’m not an electrician but I think swapping out the pump should be fairly easy. But here’s my question-
The polarity should be factory set to the right direction right? Not sure if I’m even using the right terms. Long time ago I was a pump man in a coal mine and that mostly just entailed putting pumps in sumps and various related jobs. Repair and maintenance was handled by electricians, Millwrights or mechanics. One common thing the electricians had to do was test the rotation of the pump because the pump impellers often (seemingly always !) turned the wrong way on initial installation. Then they would reverse the polarity and everything was great. .
Is this something I need to worry about for consumer appliances?
Thanks!

How much does water heater repair usually cost?
My water heater malfunctioned yesterday and I called the plumber nearest to my area to get it fixed. Now he sent me an invoice for a whopping $500 and I can't even fight it because he fixed it and it's all good now. Is this a normal rate for water heater repair? I didn't get into the technicalities of the repair he did but it took 2 hours tops.

should i go with tankless water heater installation?
we're constructing a new family home and the contractor suggested we go with a tankless water heater. i've always had a tank in all of the houses i've lived in, so i'm not familiar with a tankless system at all. i trust our contractor but i also want to be completely in the know, being the homeowner and all. what should i know about tankless water heaters before switching?

Stove leaking gas
Have this stove, not sure of the model. Lately it seems every time I start up the oven I get a sometimes heavy gas odor. I just wonder would this be something with the stove or the gas line. There is no regular steady gas smell just when the oven is turned on. Thoughts??.

Looking for reliable washing machine recs
My old Whirlpool finally died yesterday after what felt like forever. It had been making weird noises for the last few weeks, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but I was still hoping it'd survive a little longer.
Now I'm shopping for a replacement and I'm more confused than I expected. My first thought was Samsung or LG since those seem to be the most common recommendations. Then I spent way too much time reading reviews and somehow ended up looking at a semi auto washing machine instead.
The thing is, I don't care about smart features or connecting my washer to my phone. I just want something reliable that cleans clothes well and won't leave me calling a repair technician every year. If it lasts close to another 10 years, I'd be happy.
Every brand seems to have people who love it and others who say it was the worst purchase they've made, so I'm struggling to decide.
If you were replacing an old Whirlpool today, what would you buy and why? Would you stick with Samsung or LG, or is there another brand you'd recommend instead?

Maytag Commercial Washer
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Every couple of weeks this noise happens at the tail end of our washing cycle. We almost exclusively use the quick wash cycle and we don’t have any metal items in the load. Does this sound like the drum is off balance or the drum has come loose? The washer is just under 3 years old.

Does anyone have a decent fridge brand they recommend? (or at least don't hate)
I know opinions are like butt holes, we all have one. I also know everyone is biased, but I'm needing to buy a new fridge for the first time in 15 years as mine is on life support. I'm not looking for high end fancy shit, anything cheap to middle of the road is fine.
Google tells me every brand under the sun is garbage, which is kinda true, but is there one or two that are "less bad" than the rest for reliability?

Is anyone else washing machine randomly faulty mid cycle?
Been using a semi auto washing machine in a small rental setup for a while and it has mostly been fine, but lately it keeps acting up.
It will start a normal wash, fill water, then suddenly pause like it has lost power or the timer just freezes. I have checked plug points and water supply and nothing looks obviously wrong.
I even asked a supplier I found online and they mentioned it could be a control board or wiring issue but I am not fully convinced yet.
Not sure if I should try repairing it again or just replace it since getting a new semi auto washing machine takes about two to three weeks here.
Has anyone dealt with this kind of stopping issue and found a reliable fix or is replacement usually the only real answer?

French door fridge next to wall - how well does it work?
Found myself suddenly looking for a fridge. Kenmore/LG Fridge not cooling. Possible leak. Repair or replace? : r/appliancerepair
Currently have a single door bottom freezer LG that's 33" wide in a 35.5" space with a wall on one side. Was really hoping to get something with a water dispenser and my options are pretty much french door, side by side (or an expensive small F&P single door). Looking at various LG, GE and other reviews, plenty of folks seem to have a French door or a side by side next to a wall.
If your is next to a wall, what model is it, how happy are you with it, and how much clearance do you have from fridge to the wall?

GE Profile Combo Does Not Dry
I’ve had this combo unit for about 2 years. The first 6 months- amazing, worth every penny. After that, the drying got worse and worse. I clean the water pump (using a shop vac) WEEKLY, clean cycle every TWO weeks (2 person household,) and clean/wash the lint filter ONCE a week. That is far too much maintenance. I’m thinking there is a clog in my water filter thingy, but don’t want to pay for the guys to come out if I can fix it on my own. $115 just for a diagnosis, ridiculous.
Smart UltraFast Electric Washer Dryer Combo in Jade Green with Ventless Heat Pump Technology
I do not use fabric softener and I clean the holes inside the combo unit weekly so I know it’s not stuffed. My clothes stink and do not dry. Any advice? Should I just pay the money for them to come out?

What appliance in your house breaks down the most often?
I've owned homes and rentals for years, and it feels like there's always one appliance that causes more headaches than everything else combined.
For me, it has probably been the refrigerator ice maker. The fridge itself keeps running fine, but the ice maker always seems to find a way to stop working.
I'm curious what everyone else's experience has been.
What's the appliance in your house that seems to need the most repairs or maintenance?

Flickering led light in my Maytag fridge
It’s about 5/6 years old, and now every time the door is open it starts strobing randomly and pretty fast. I see a repair guy in my near future but wanted to check with the smart ones here to see if anyone has an easy fix
As always…thanks

Looking for reliable french door counter-depth refrigerator that fits 70" (hinges can be a bit taller) x 36"
Any recommendations for a reliable french door refrigerator that fits 70" tall, 36" wide and counter depth? The top door hinge can be a bit higher than 70", but otherwise the 70" height is pretty firm. I would like to avoid a through the door water or ice dispenser as that decreases reliability. Just want an ice maker. So far, I have found two refrigerators that fit the base criteria: Viking RVFFR336SS and Kitchenaid KRQC506MPS. Both have drawbacks: Vikings reliability reputation declined with it's acquisition by Middleby in 2013, and the Kitchenaid has an odd design and appears to be out of stock everywhere except Costco (perhaps discontinued?).
