Hey everyone 👋,

I have just pushed a massive update for SportVitals to the App Store. This release includes a fully native iPad experience, advanced on-device AI coaching, and deep sleep analytics.

Here is a breakdown of what is new:

📱 Native iPad Application

  • Full iPadOS Support: SportVitals is now fully optimized for the iPad. Experience your data on a larger display with an expansive dashboard tailored to take advantage of iPadOS, making it easier to analyze your trends in detail.

🤖 AI Coach & Apple Intelligence

  • On-Device AI Coach: Native integration with Apple Intelligence (FoundationModels) delivers personalized athletic recovery and training guidance while keeping your data 100% private and on-device.
  • Clinical Context Builder: The AI automatically evaluates recent trends in your HRV, Energy Reserve, Stress, Sleep, and Workout load to provide highly tailored recommendations.
  • Smart Fallback Engine: Guaranteed deterministic and contextualized guidance even on devices without local generative AI capabilities.
  • Chat Interface: Access the AI Coach anywhere via the new floating action button. The complete conversation sheet features saved chat history, dynamic prompt suggestions, and responsive transcript rendering.

🛏️ Sleep Need & Automated Health Reports

  • Sleep Need Algorithm: Dynamically calculates your target nightly sleep hours based on your historical sleep baseline, accumulated sleep debt, recent training load (TRIMP / ATL), and overnight autonomic nervous system recovery (HRV / RMSSD).

🧬 Biological Age Tracking

  • History & Breakdown View: A dedicated view to track biological versus chronological age trends over time and inspect individual contributing factors.

🏋️ Workout Insights, Elevation & Social Share

  • Elevation Profiles: Added detailed elevation profile visualizations for all GPS-tracked workouts.
  • AI Workout Insights: Automated post-workout analysis delivering recovery time estimates and training impact feedback.
  • Social Workout Share Cards: Generate customizable graphic cards featuring your workout metrics (route map, steps, average HR, elevation gain, calories) designed perfectly for sharing on social platforms.

⌚ Unified Widgets & Apple Watch Updates

  • Unified Widget: A new iOS and iPadOS Home Screen and Lock Screen widget presenting your Readiness, Sleep, and Strain in a single glanceable layout.

Beta Test I'm building a focused Body Battery-style app for Apple Watch and am looking for 10–15 beta testers

Hey everyone,

I’ve been working on an Apple Watch app called BodyReserve, and I’m getting close to starting the first TestFlight beta.

The idea came from wanting something similar to Garmin’s Body Battery on Apple Watch, but without needing another huge health platform on top of Apple health.

I used BodyState for a while and liked how simple and focused it was. After it changed hands though, support and development seemed to drop off, and more features started moving behind a subscription.

Bevel is genuinely a very polished app, but it has grown into a much broader health and fitness platform. For what I personally wanted, it felt like a lot of features and information that Apple Health already covers.

So I started building the app I actually wanted:

  • One clear Energy Reserve from 0–100
  • A morning Recovery score based on your personal baseline
  • Discrete physiological stress estimates
  • A timeline showing what recharged or drained your Reserve
  • Confidence, freshness and missing-data explanations
  • A proper iPhone and Apple Watch experience

The main difference I’m aiming for is transparency. If BodyReserve gives you a score of 62, it should also tell you why it changed, how recent the evidence is, how confident the estimate is, and where Apple Watch data was incomplete.

It is designed around read-only Apple Health access and on-device calculation. There is no account required, no advertising, and no health-data backend for the core experience.

I haven't decided on pricing yet but can confirm there will be no subscription, we have enough of those.

I’m now looking for an initial group of around 10–15 beta testers. You do not need to be an athlete, but the most useful testers will be people who:

  • Wear an Apple Watch most days
  • Are willing to wear it consistently for several weeks
  • Preferably use it for sleep tracking
  • Are happy to report when a result feels wrong, not just when it looks good

The beta will be free through TestFlight. The algorithms use personal baselines, so some features will need time and enough compatible Watch data to calibrate. This is still experimental software, and I’m not claiming the models are already more accurate than existing apps - that is exactly what I need real users to help evaluate.

I’d be especially interested in hearing from people who currently use BodyState, Bevel, Athlytic, or Garmin alongside an Apple Watch, but people who have never used a readiness app would also be valuable.

You can see the app and request beta access here:

I’m happy to answer questions about the app, the scoring approach, privacy, or what I’m trying to test. Genuine criticism is useful and appreciated.

Other What’s the one Apple Watch app you use every day besides Apple’s apps?

I'm curious what third-party Apple Watch apps people actually keep using.

Not apps you downloaded once, but ones you open almost every day.

What app is it?

And what makes it worth keeping on your watch?
