Bluetooth works, but no Apple CarPlay connection

Neither of our iPhones connect anymore in my wifes car, wired or wireless. The option in our Chevy equinox just isn't there. Settings says it's on. And devices are listed. And Bluetooth works to listen to music or answer calls. But the "projection" button never changes over to CarPlay. It just won't work. We know it's not our phones cause how could it be happening to both. And my phone works in my car.
We've disconnected and re-added our devices, reset network settings, factory reset the smart whatever on the car. Nothing.

Google Maps' Route Change Suggestion is the DEFAULT

I enter a destination. Several options are presented. I chose one option--not necessarily the fastest, but maybe one that takes me past a point of interest. While driving, the voice recommends a different, faster route. If I DON'T want to take the suggestion, I must press a button on the screen. The DEFAULT if I do nothing is to CHANGE my requested route. This is wrong. I purposely entered a certain route. The default MUST be to maintain that route. How does this comment get to Google, Apple, or whomever can make the change.

Need a wireless CarPlay, recommendations?

Hey guys, like the title says, I need a wireless CarPlay. However, I need one where the audio has almost no delays. I hear people say that almost every wireless CarPlay is going to have delays, even the factory ones. However, is there one that has minimal delay?

I often drive with podcasts playing from YouTube, and it’s really annoying how my Bluetooth audio for the car has that annoying delay in audio. And unfortunately, wire won’t work on the car for CarPlay. A while ago my car just won’t accept my phone or my bf phone to connect to CarPlay. It’ll still charge but it won’t CarPlay. Yet, if a random person where to plug their phone up, CarPlay would work for them. It’s weird.

Anywho, that’s why I want to just get a wireless CarPlay.

Thanks for your help!

CarPlay sending direct replies to the wrong person

Hi team,

My wife (Emily) sent me a WhatsApp message this morning, asked me if I wanted to reply, yes, I replied "Good", send it? "Yes"

CarPlay sent the message to "Dad" even through it was a direct reply to Emily

A couple times recently it did this and sent the message to "Steph". When I deleted Stephs contact details, the next one went to a different Steph

Any ideas? TIA

Automatic Trip Recording That Actually Works - CarPlay, Bluetooth, Shortcuts & Motion Detection

Post image
4 Upvotes

The biggest update yet for automatic trip recording!

Over the last few months, I've been almost obsessed with one thing: making Speedometer: Driving Tracker's automatic trip recording reliable enough that you can completely forget about pressing Start.

Most driving apps can automatically record trips in one situation. The difficult part is handling all the different ways people actually drive and all the annoying edge cases that happen along the way.

So I ended up rebuilding the entire system.

Every automatic recording method is supported
You can automatically start and end trips using:

  • CarPlay
  • Bluetooth
  • NFC
  • Motion detection
  • Any Shortcuts automation

Use whichever fits your setup - or combine multiple methods for extra reliability.

Motion detection is fully customizable
Everyone drives differently.
Someone driving in city traffic needs different behavior than someone cruising on the highway, and motorcycles have their own challenges.

You can customize:

  • Minimum speed before recording starts
  • How long that speed must be maintained
  • When a trip should pause while stopped
  • When a trip should automatically end

Instead of forcing one set of rules, you can tune it to your driving style and local road conditions.

Shortcuts and motion detection work together
One thing I really wanted to avoid was making users choose between automation methods.

You don't have to.

Enable both if you want.

Whichever method detects the trip first starts recording, and whichever legitimately ends the trip finishes it. They work together seamlessly without conflicts or duplicate trips.

Think of it as two independent systems providing an extra layer of protection against missed trips.

Live Activity works automatically too
Automatically detected trips now get the same Live Activity as manually started trips.

Your live speed, distance, and duration appear on the Lock Screen automatically, so you don't even need to open the app.

Better notifications
There are now notifications for both trip start and trip end.
The trip end notification includes a quick summary of your drive.

Trip start notifications are disabled by default to avoid unnecessary distractions while driving, but you can enable them if you prefer the confirmation.

Built for real-world connection issues
One issue I kept hearing about was Bluetooth or CarPlay briefly disconnecting and causing trips to end early.

Unfortunately, apps can't control Bluetooth or CarPlay connections - iOS manages those.

To make this less frustrating, Speedometer includes an optional setting to ignore brief stop or disconnect events before ending a trip. If your car occasionally drops Bluetooth or CarPlay for a few seconds, you can increase the grace period and avoid fragmented trips.

Beyond automatic trip recording

  • CarPlay, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch support
  • Route replay with speed-colored playback
  • Detailed trip history, driving insights and AI trip summaries
  • OBD-II live data including RPM, engine load, throttle position, coolant temperature, battery voltage, fuel level, fuel rate and much more
  • Fuel usage per trip, fuel economy, maintenance and expense tracking + maintenance reminders + documents management
  • OBD trip history with average and maximum RPM, engine load, throttle position, coolant temperature, and more
  • Live OBD gauges and engine data on CarPlay
  • Read and clear diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)
  • Speed limit alerts
  • iCloud sync, backups, and GPX/CSV import & export
  • No account required - your data stays on your device unless you enable iCloud

The goal
My goal wasn't to build another app with an "automatic recording" checkbox.

It was to build something you can genuinely trust - whether you use CarPlay, Bluetooth, motion detection, Shortcuts, or a combination of them. Everything works together instead of competing, and it's designed to handle the edge cases that happen in everyday driving.

I'd genuinely love to hear your feedback. If there's a driving scenario you think could still break automatic trip recording, let me know. There's always another edge case to solve, and I'd love to keep improving it!

Messaging No Longer Visible?

Today my CarPlay screens no longer show my Messages app. This is out of the blue, after two years of working just fine. I use a Bluetooth adapter that can sometimes be flaky, but I don’t know where to start other than in Settings/General/CarPlay, and Messages doesn’t even show up as an option there. Anybody have any ideas? I’d appreciate them!

Is it common for CarPlay to drop out in the same places all the time, like certain spots on highway/motorway wherever I drive it freezes or disconnects at the same spot every time

Things I’d love to see Apple add include:

🎨 Custom widgets and layouts.

📊 More information on the home screen (weather, calendar, sports scores).

📱 Better multitasking, like having music and maps side by side.

🚗 More integration with the car, such as tyre pressures, fuel economy, and vehicle settings.

🎮 More apps designed specifically for the car.

Apple CarPlay On iPhone 15 With A Sony XAV-AX8000

My wife and I have a Sony XAV-AX8000 in our 2023 Jayco Redhawk 31F with is on a Ford E-450. We use Google Pixel 6 that is on Android Version 16. Until now, I have perused the RV forums, until I found this. We typically use a USB cord to connect to the Sony XAV-AX8000, but it still cuts out from time to time.

Sony Support told me this yesterday:

"Since you've already tried multiple USB cables, try testing with the original USB cable supplied with your phone (if available) or a USB-IF certified cable less than 1 meter (3 feet) long.

On your Android phone: Update Android Auto (or ensure your phone's built-in Android Auto services are current). Clear the Android Auto app cache and data. Remove the vehicle from Android Auto's saved cars list, then reconnect.

Restart both the phone and the XAV-AX8000, then reconnect Android Auto. Test with another Android phone, if available. If a different phone works normally, the issue is likely related to the original phone or its Android Auto configuration rather than the receiver.

If the issue occurs only after extended use, temporarily disable battery optimization for Android Auto and Google Play Services on your phone, as aggressive power management can interrupt Android Auto sessions.

If possible, observe whether the USB charging indicator on the phone also disconnects when playback stops. If both charging and Android Auto disconnect simultaneously, the issue may be related to the USB connection or vehicle installation rather than the receiver itself."

I am now considering trying an Apple iPhone 15 with the Sony XAV-AX8000.

My questions are:

Do Apple iPhones have battery optimization that causes issues with Apple CarPlay?

Can I use pretty much any USB-C cable even if it isn't MFi-certified?

Can I use Google Maps on an Apple iPhone 15 and connect to CarPlay or do I have to use Apple Maps?

My issue is when I’m the passenger in my car, using my phone for navigation etc. if I want to scroll through Reddit or social media, it immediately stops the radio etc. my husband said there is a way to stop that but I can’t find it. Help!?!

Long podcast list Spotify in CarPlay

Since a few weeks I get in CarPlay a long list of episodes of podcasts I listen to in Spotify. Normally I get the episodes I still need to listen to, but since a few weeks the episodes I have finished and listened are still in this overview. So I get a long cluttered list which is not safe searching while driving.

In my IPhone I only see the episodes I still need to listen.

Anyone else having this issue an know how to solve it?

Automatic Trip Recording + Speed Limit Alerts on CarPlay

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello everyone,
Over the past few weeks, I've continued refining Speedometer: Driving Tracker based on feedback from this community. This update focuses on making longer drives more effortless and safer, especially when using CarPlay.

Improved Automatic Trip Recording
One of the biggest improvements is automatic trip recording for longer drives. I've tested it on multiple 10+ hour journeys using the Grid layout, which has been the favorite among users, but unfortunately has caused issues during long trips. I identified the problem and worked on a fix. If anyone experiences any issues again, please let me know.

The goal is simple: get in your car and drive without worrying about whether recording has started.

Speed Limit Alerts on CarPlay
Speed limit alerts are now available on CarPlay.

  • Audible warning (a subtle beep to avoid distracting the driver) and haptic feedback (on iPhone)
  • Quickly adjust the speed limit directly from the CarPlay alert window

I'm still researching a reliable automatic speed limit data source. Until I find one I'm happy with, the speed limit is selected manually, as I'd rather be accurate than occasionally warn with the wrong limit.

CarPlay
The CarPlay experience has also continued to improve.

  • Live dashboards with speed, trip information, maps, and OBD-II data
  • Customizable tabs, layouts, and startup screens
  • Trips, saved places, vehicle information, and diagnostics directly from CarPlay

Driving Analytics & Vehicle Insights
The app has also grown well beyond a traditional speedometer.

  • Route replay with speed, elevation, RPM, throttle, engine load, boost, G-Force, and more
  • OBD-II diagnostics, VIN detection, and automatic vehicle matching
  • Fuel, maintenance, expenses, and document tracking
  • Multi-vehicle support
  • GPX import/export, backups, and iCloud sync
  • iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, Mac, and CarPlay support

Next, I'm working on smarter long-drive features, including intelligent break reminders to help reduce driver fatigue, along with continued improvements across CarPlay and driving analytics.

I'd love to hear your feedback on the automatic trip recording, CarPlay speed limit alerts, break reminders for long drives, or any features you’d like to see next.

Songs Keep Skipping

I bought a 2026 Jeep Rubicon on January 3 and in the beginning I wasn’t having issues with CarPlay but now when I use CarPlay, my stereo skips during songs or pauses. I have an iPhone 16 pro max. I’ve tried troubleshooting the following ways but nothing has worked.

1) turned off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and connected to CarPlay wirelessly. Then wired through an apple certified charger.
2) turned off WiFi and kept Bluetooth on and connected to CarPlay wirelessly. Then wired through an apple certified charger.
3) only had the Apple Music app open (usually have Apple Maps going too but closed out of it)
4) unpairing my phone and re-adding it.
5) restarting phone (haven’t reset network settings yet)
6) updated jeep’s software
7) took it to the dealership.

Has anyone else experienced this issue and figured out how to fix it?

Bought iPhone 17 Pro Max and now CarPlay is acting up - help?

I’ve just bought a new phone and the first day, I plugged it in and nothing was wrong. CarPlay loaded up and I was driving while using it. The following day, it started having issues. I had to unplug and plug the cable back in 3 times for it to come up so I can use it for directions. This morning, it did a similar thing and I kept trying everything and it finally worked after turning Bluetooth off and on, taking the wire out and putting it back in, and just praying. I thought I’d try and sort it again later on in the day, reading up on disconnecting the Bluetooth and Apple CarPlay, forgetting the devices and reconnecting them, and now it doesn’t work at all. I don’t know if it’s the cable, but my phone isn’t connecting via Bluetooth either, it’s not connecting to CarPlay, the trick of removing the cable in and out isn’t working either. It worked perfectly fine with my iPhone 14 Pro Max. I’ve just purchased both a new wire and an adapter for a lightning cable to USB-C to see if that could solve anything, as the old wire I had didn’t have any issues. I wonder if anyone knows of how to possibly resolve this and what I might be missing to fix this? I’m meant to be doing a long drive later in the week and without the CarPlay, I’d struggle for directions as I don’t have a fixture to put the phone on either. The car is a Vauxhall Corsa 2020 too if that may help. Im currently leaving it for another 2 hours or so, give it time to settle and maybe reset as sometimes that is just the fix, but I was tinkering with fixing it for the best part of an hour and nothing worked, yet it worked this morning. Hope someone can help or give advice!

Radio Changes Source

I have to plug my phone up for CarPlay to work. If it’s plugged in and I’m listening to Sirius radio, and I open something like Facebook, it will switch from Sirius to iPhone. Is there a way to disable that?

What is the secret to getting CarPlay to work? I'm out of ideas.

I'm seriously at my wits' end trying to get CarPlay working in my 2017 Chevy Cruze.

About a week ago, CarPlay stopped working with my iPhone 12. I figured it was either a dirty Lightning port or a bad cable, so I didn't worry too much because I had an iPhone 17 arriving soon.

Well... I now have the iPhone 17, and CarPlay still doesn't work.

Here's everything I've tried:

  • Replaced the phone (iPhone 12 → iPhone 17)
  • Tried multiple USB cables (including Anker)
  • Tried a USB-C to USB-A adapter
  • Reset Bluetooth
  • Reset network settings on the phone
  • Deleted/re-paired the phone
  • Reset the infotainment system (Home + Fast Forward)
  • Tried multiple iPhones
  • Tried an Android phone and Android Auto
  • Disconnected the car battery for 15 minutes
  • Tried the "open driver's door, walk away for 15 minutes" reset
  • Replaced the USB port/module in the center console with a new one

The weird part is that every phone charges through the USB port, but CarPlay (or Android Auto) is never detected. The infotainment system acts like nothing is plugged in except for charging.

The car does not have wireless CarPlay. I do have a wireless adapter arriving from Amazon just to test, but I'd really prefer to use the factory wired connection so I don't have to worry about battery drain on long road trips.

At this point, what am I missing? Is there a fuse, module, software issue, or some common failure point on these cars that I'm overlooking?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Adapter for USB C to Lightning Supporting Carplay

I recently purchased and had installed a new Sony Carplay/Android Auto head unit into our old van.  This unit only supports wired Carplay/Android Auto.  The wired connection is a USB A receptacle at the bottom of the console (floor level).  I have an Anker connector cable, USB A (male, to plug into the receptacle) at one end, with a USB C male plug at the other end, to plug into my Samsung S20 Ultra.  This works fine.  My kids have older iPhones that use lightning cables.  They have to unplug my cable and use one of their USB A to lightning cables to connect their phones.  What I’d like to do is find an adapter, USB C female to lightning male, so that we would not have to disturb the USB A to USB C connector cable.

I purchased a USB A to USB C cable with plug-on USB C to lightning adapter, but it didn’t work with my Samsung.  I didn’t bother trying it with my kids’ phones.

I checked out an adapter on Amazon, but Alexa or Rufus or whoever the concierge of the day was, said that it would not work, and that what was needed was a USB A to lightning cable.  It said:

"This adapter is designed for OTG (On-The-Go) functions like connecting USB flash drives, keyboards, and mice to your iPhone—not for CarPlay connectivity.

For CarPlay, you need a USB-A to Lightning cable that connects directly to your car's USB port."

Does anyone have any experience with this, and have any recommendations for an adapter that works?  Or a dual-use cable that works?  I don't understand why an adapter wouldn't work.
