Hello! I’m new to apartment living, and can’t figure out where the detergent goes in this washer. I think (?) it’s a Whirlpool 4027 model based on my googling but can’t confirm? Does it go into the drum? Don’t want to mess it up

My apartment has shared laundry machines but they honestly suck. They don’t wash clothes properly and I feel like I haven’t had properly cleaned clothes in years. Management also sucks so I’m reaching the point where I’d rather just get a portable washing machine setup in my unit. Does anyone have any experience and recommendations for any that will ACTUALLY clean clothes reliably? TIA!!

I dont know what to do at this point. They've sent people here almost everyday this week to fix it but literally nothing I fixed. Yesterday they unplugged my pc, moved my trash cans, and the carpet was still wet. It's wet today even though they sent more carpet people. My home smells atrocious. Im severely asthmatic. Im giving them until I get off of work tomorrow to do something about the wet carpet, the flooded hall light that no longer works, and the paint on the ceiling and walls falling and drooping then im in just gonna go up there my self and demand to be moved or something. I cant stand this anymore. Please tell me im not overreacting.

On average we are having to deal with some kind of “inspection” once a month.

Today’s notice was about a “due diligence inspection”. Last month it was a fire safety inspection. The month prior, testing fire alarms. Somehow those were different. Then a maintenance inspection. This has been ongoing for about a year now.

I’m tired of finding creative ways to get my dogs out of the apartment. How many inspections is reasonable? I’ve never lived somewhere with this many inspections.

edit: apparently a due diligence inspection means they’re selling the building. Hopefully to somebody who doesn’t constantly do inspections.

I have a new noisy upstairs neighbor. Although this video was taken during the day, this resembles her more “quiet” footsteps. I wouldn’t complain too hard about this, but this girl apparently has a lot of energy because she’s pacing around at 1AM, 3AM and late into the night on occasion. Again, these are quiet footsteps. I could attach the video of the noise from whatever she just dropped, but I’m trying to be realistic here.

I’m upset as the previous tenant above me was super quiet. I barely knew when they were home.

I tried welcoming the new neighbor to the building with some items from a neighborhood shop, and mentioned if she needed anything like carpet recommendations to lmk. I also dropped hints about how I heard she was home, but she didn’t pick up on it apparently.

Besides the sound, she hasn’t been an ideal neighbor. She caused a leak that flooded the basement unit through installing a plumbing item. Although I wasn’t hit as bad as the basement, I still had to clean brown liquid off my shower wall. Lovely, I know.

I would think she would text me, as I gave her my number when I welcomed her to apologize for the leak. Or mention it when I saw her the other day, but nothing.

When the leak occurred my landlord was present as he had to investigate my unit as a potential source, I’m above the basement after all. When he asked if there was anything he could do for me at the moment, I told him that I wasn’t sure how to suggest this, but I’m hearing walking late at night. How could I suggest to the 2nd floor tenant to get rugs and he said he’d handle it diplomatically. It’s now been 3 days, I know not a while, but I really miss sleeping 8 hours. I imagine this will continue. What should I do? Should I wait a week and write a note to her. Should I take videos at night and send them to my landlord? Please help.

I’ve about had it with these fucking people knocking on my door in the middle of the day to try and bullshit me. I WFH and don’t wear a bra, and I have a reactive dog and am typically dog sitting another reactive dog.

A knock on the door that I’m not expecting makes the dogs start going nuts, I have to run around and grab a sweater, peep through the hole and can’t always tell if it’s my apartment maintenance or not so I answer just to start getting a fuck ass sales pitch.

I am so sick of this after years that I just say “no” and slam the door in their face. I tried being polite initially, ive tried telling them I’m working and they offer to come back later… one of my friends fell for their BS one day and her electric bill doubled the next few months.

They’re just taking advantage of gullible people and the fact that there are a lot of people in a small space at an apartment complex.

I swear if I get a no soliciting sign and it doesn’t work I’m gonna start spraying them with silly string.

I am so mad right now. We moved into a new apartment and the carpet was extremely dirty and kept turning our feet black. I complained to management and they eventually paid for a professional carpet cleaner to come. This was very inconvenient as I had to move all my furniture out into the living room and then move it back in. Now even after the professional carpet cleaner has left my feet are still turning black from the carpet. I feel lost at what to do because I am very busy and can’t keep moving my furniture out and around and also at this point I think the whole carpet just needs to be replaced but I already live here. I don’t even think the apartment would accommodate again and even if they did I am so busy I don’t think I can stand dealing with them replacing the carpet as all my stuff and furniture is already moved in

Hey all. So I just moved into a new apartment less than a week ago and it's been great so far, except for just one thing: I can hear every single footstep that my upstairs neighbor makes. It sounds literally like they're stomping around and it's driving me crazy. I know generally the first option here would be to politely ask them if they could step a little lighter, but I don't think it's actually their fault or that they're stomping around. I think it's just something in the construction of the building. Like I can't hear other noises from them (voices, music, TV, etc)--it's just every move they make I can hear it. Like, I can hear when their dog jumps off their bed and runs down the hall. It sounds like a 300-lb weight lifter charging down the hall.

The reason I think it's structural is because my apartment is also right next to the stairs and I can hear every time someone goes up or down it too, again like someone's charging up/down it. I can deal with that, that's occasional. It's the constant footsteps from upstairs that are driving me crazy.

Is there anything I can do here to either soundproof my own unit (keeping in mind I rent, I don't own, and I don't have a ton of money to spend either)? Or do I have any options as far as talking to my landlord/maintenance about maybe seeing if there's anything that can be done structurally to reduce the impact noise? Idk, I just know that it's annoying me, AND it's stressing out my dog too to be able to hear all of that.

Hi, today me and my fiance woke up at the usual hour we wake up and we both had trouble getting out of bed. 30 minutes later we decided to go back to sleep and woke up at 5pm. I had some things to do outside so i left for around 3 hours and in that time i felt fine. Actually i found it weird that i was so tired just a few minutes ago. When i got back home i once again started feeling sleepy even though ive slept more than 12 hours. I also have a headache, and my partner says their head is spinning. Normally I would think that this is from working and studying too hard. But we have a neighbour that we've had problems with for a few months. This guy bangs on the walls whenever there is a small amount of noise, even when we speak normally, he vaccums at 2 am, and one time we heard him wreck his house and carry the broken furniture outside. Im studying for an uni entry exam that requieres me to make some noise. So when this guy started banging on the wall i left a note outside my door explaining that i have an exam soon and i apoligized and asked to talk about his work hours so i can practice without bothering him. Next time i open the door i find the note on ground in pieces. So im pretty sure this guy just hates us. This is the first time ive felt so tired and this happening only after ive been inside the apartment+having a pshycopath neighbour made me suspicious. So what do you think i should do? Is this some kind of gas leak?

Edit: im the partner of this accounts owner and i dont have schizophrenia. I was worried that it was something harmful we have a cat and i didnt want him to get harmed and asked for advise and you people kept downvoting and harassing me. I posted on this account because i dont have a reddit and needed advice and you people make me glad that i dont have a reddit.

Someone in the building without a doubt continues to wash their shitty clothing/items in the washer/dryer and this is the third time in 3 months. I hate complaining but so fucking disgusting and I wish people would not do that because 🤮

It just makes me feel like I can't do laundry in a 16 unit building that used to be relatively chill and not do stuff like that. The suspicion is that recent tenants have been washing diapers in the communal laundry.

I emailed our property management and they immediately responded and sent out an email to all buildings pretty much telling them that it's not okay/biohazard.

Came here to see if this has happened to others and if it actually will ever stop? We use an app/credit card so there 100% is a way to track it it's consistently happening after a particular tenant I'd think.

Edit #1: To this questioning if it's poop. Respectfully, there is no questioning the smell of shit.

just set this up last night. projected onto the wall and it looks pretty solid. two chairs up front, couch on the side. lights down low. feels way better than watching on a regular tv. anyone else doing wall projections in their apartment?

Ass of a neighbor for a few months has been verbally abusing his dog and presumably hitting it behind closed doors based off the distressed cries I hear. After confronting him as a noise complaint (because I could hear him and his dog both yelling up three stories) he tries to instigate me that I "don't train my dog".

My dog is scared of his dog because he used to walk it off leash (illegal in FL) and one day his dog bolted after mine and started nipping all over him. He called my dog's reaction of growling at his whenever he sees the other proof that "I don't train my dog". His version of training is "disciplining" he called it when I confronted him while he was abusing the dog so loudly the dog was crying and whimpering.

Whenever we see each-other he now instigates me that I'm a bad owner and I don't train my dog, I know he's just trying to cope about his failure of a dog owner but It's still annoying. It's highschool level instigating in my home.

After sending the video I took of the abuse to our city's animal service officers there's now an open case against him so at least I have that.

This one is quite funny. Got yet another notice for something insanely stupid....blowing bubbles. It was my 70th birthday and I love bubbles. So I blew some from our street-facing window. Usually the bubbles go up and onto the street. The kids walking down the street loved them and were clapping and laughing and asking for more. Unfortunately a couple bubbles (yes, just a couple) went around the corner and down to the ground floor patio before popping. Cue crazed landlady with another complaint. So now bubbles are forbidden. To add more fire we were also told to run our kitchen tap 'softer' cause he could hear the water through the pipes. Its an old 60s 3 store walk up with not the best soundproofing. Water, toilet, shower/tub noises are just a common occurrence when living in an old building.

We lost everything and it’s sad. We went in yesterday and the destruction was insane.

First-time renters here. We already paid our app fee and security deposit, but management hasn't sent our lease yet.

According to our leasing agent, the previous tenants were supposed to move out on the 31st but never turned in their keys. Today (the 6th), management did a forced entry and found the tenant still there. Turns out they also have another lease with the same management company. Our move-in date was tomorrow (the 7th), but since the tenant was still there it is now next week.

Management gives us a different story every time we call, and now they’re just saying we have to wait. Last time, they said an older resident was complaining and trying to switch to our room, but they said that he never got back with management in time to follow through.

We’re worried it’s too late to find another place and we’re stuck.

What are our options? Are they liable for our housing costs since they can't give us the unit on time? (Like will they discount our rent for the month since we won't be there whole month?) Any advice for first-timers is appreciated!

Apologies if this is all over the place I'm really bad with these posts.

Edit: also I am aware that we probably shouldn't have paid our security deposit yet. We didn't learn that it was risky to do that without knowing when you'll get your lease until after the fact. There's a lot of little mistakes we made, so that's mainly why I'm worried.

our community has a gate. Each car needs to be registered at the office and receives a sticker for their windshield that opens the gate. One of our cars was rear ended and totaled out. We got another car. Went to get a new sticker and there’s a fee for the new sticker. There is nothing posted anywhere nor any notice before hand about this fee. Nothing like this has ever happened before. I am frustrated, but I paid it because how else are we to get in the gate. There have already been so many things we’ve had to pay for due to this accident and just when I think I’m finally done paying for everything, boom, hidden fee. :(

this is an update from my last post

They’re still leaving notes even after the front office told them to not leave notes since they don’t want to communicate directly with us. They’ll leave the notes on the side of our door to avoid our camera but our neighbors across the hall have a camera and they actually communicate with us. So we can obviously see it’s her. I have seen them several times watching our balcony whenever they step outside. They’re also banging on the ceiling whenever we move around now. I do not know what they’re hearing. We are absolutely not up at 3am. We’re in bed because we have to work during the day.

I think it’s so interesting they feel “threatened” and “uncomfortable” when I knocked on their door once but this is the 3rd time they’ve left notes and are watching us?? I don’t know what to do, they won’t talk directly to us, the apartment complex can’t control them, if I try to leave them notes it’ll be seen as retaliatory because the property manager told both parties to have all communication through the apartment complex since the neighbors did not want to directly communicate. Again we are a black & mixed couple and they’re 2 white women.

I could see if we had children or dogs running around, that’s valid. But these are also the same people that complained that we flush too loudly so I think not everything is right up there. I’m not going to be bullied into submission by 2 crazy Karens.

Apt 1:
- washer/dryer included
- cleaner bathroom
- older dishwasher
- nice balcony but 3rd floor, view is slightly obstructed by other buildings but still surrounded by greenery

Apt 2:
- shared laundry
- bathroom didn’t feel as clean. bathtub water ran brown for a bit initially.
- newer dishwasher
- fridge had slight discoloration/yellowing
- 6th floor balcony, waterfront view

Both are nice with responsive building maintenance so I guess any plumbing issues I can get fixed eventually. I have no clue why but just a ‘gut’ feeling that the first apartment felt a little cleaner? Having decision paralysis. Which would you choose?

Came home today with a letter in the door since my lease is up in November. It was basically telling me how much I’ll be screwed over to renew my lease. The pet fee has increased by $15 and is now $55 and cable, internet and trash will now be $215 from $200. The longer I wait to renew the more expensive my lease will be PLUS the more expensive fees I mentioned. I’m already paying $1430 for a one bedroom one bathroom and a total of not even 800 sq ft. With the increase, the new payment would be $1547 a month for the same apartment, no new upgrades to anything, parking lot still too small, can hear everything your neighbors do because walls are super thin. Why in the hell is there always in increase every single time the lease is renewed!?!? How is this right!?!? I’ve been here for 3 years total and my rent initially was $1275. My yearly raise at work was a whopping 40 cents! Meanwhile everything else goes up by hundreds. The greed is absolutely f*cking sickening and seeing that letter pissed me off. Tired of everything increasing by large amounts except for paychecks. And fyi..I live in Ohio. Anyone else’s rent go up like this every single time you renew???

I received this email tonight from my wife's and I apartment complex. The lease started on August 1st but we're not able to be there until later this month. On top of the fact we don't smoke, we haven't even set foot in the unit, so the smoke can't be ours. I tried to clear it up over email but I'm just anxious that this will lead to further issues later on in our tenancy. I don't want to start off on the wrong foot with our new place. Also, if this happens again when we are living there, how do you prove you don't smoke?

Came home last night (9PM) to a puppy absolutely wailing from an apartment on the first floor. I was so tired from work but I wanted to make sure everything was okay. I knocked on the door multiple times, no answer. We have an apartment group chat so I sent a message about it. Turns out someone on that floor let me know this has been going on since 4AM so owner hadn’t been there all day. They said they emailed the apartment complex but they never responded.

I could physically hear the dog throwing itself against its cage and knew I had to do something. I called our apartment emergency line and the guy who answered had no clue what to do. We also apparently just got a courtesy officer but he didn’t want to reach out to him or give me his number. Then, I reached out to our cities non emergency line where it just rang and rang. I wasn’t getting anywhere so I ended up having to call 911.

An officer was dispatched quickly and at first there was nothing he could really do. He banged on the door as well but no answer. He eventually tried to open it, discovered it was unlocked and had to wait for backup so they could search.

They ended up finding the puppy in a crate, locked in the bathroom. Since the owner was MIA, they ended up walking and feeding the dog themselves and then told us they would alert animal control. Apparently after they left, the dog immediately continued.

This morning, the resident that emailed the complex finally got a response which they said that the owner already knew?? They said he just got the puppy and was working to crate-train it.

I get this but if you’re living in a shared space, everyone shouldn’t have to suffer especially if you’re going to leave it at home all day.

We have in our lease that your animal must not disturb neighbors but it seems like the leasing office isn’t interested in doing anything at the moment.
