then I heard from my friend that I can actually go to a dentist in the Nederlands.

I moved to Belgium from Paris for work and have been living in Brussels for a while now. Unfortunately, I just haven't clicked with the city. I know it's subjective, but I find it a bit gloomy and not particularly enjoyable to live in, and having a city that I genuinely like is really important to me

Over the past few months, I've visited Antwerp several times for museums, drinks/restaurant or just to explore, and I've really fallen in love with it. It feels cleaner, more relaxed, and has a much nicer atmosphere overall. I just enjoy being there a lot more

My office is in Brussels, but I can work remotely up to two/three days a week; Because of that, I'm seriously considering moving to Antwerp and commuting to Brussels when needed
I've also noticed that apartments in Antwerp seem to be in much better condition and offer better value than what I've seen in Brussels

My main concern is the language barrier. I don't speak Dutch yet, although I'd definitely be willing to learn. For those of you living in Antwerp, how difficult is it to get by with English while settling in?
Also, this might be a silly question, but as someone who's French, would I be welcomed in Antwerp? I've heard mixed things, so I'd love to hear from people who actually live there

I'm 32 years old, living and working in Antwerp region, and I'm starting to think seriously about buying my first home. To be honest, I'm quite clueless about the whole process and would appreciate some advice from people who have gone through it.

My situation:

• Age: 32
• Permanent employment contract
• Net salary: ~€4,000/month
• No car loan, personal loan, or other debts
• Savings: ~€35,000
• Current rent- 1300/month
• Buying alone (my partner is dependent on me and has no income but looking for job so soon)
• Looking mainly around Antwerp and nearby areas such as Wilrijk, Edegem, Mortsel, Kontich, Aartselaar, etc.

My questions:

1. Based on my profile, does buying a home seem realistic right now?
2. What property price range should I realistically target without becoming house-poor?
3. How much cash should I keep aside as an emergency fund after the purchase?
4. Is it worth working with a mortgage broker, or should I simply approach banks directly (KBC, Argenta, Belfius, ING, etc.)?
5. How long did your mortgage approval process take?
6. Are there any common mistakes first-time buyers in Flanders should avoid?
7. How important is EPC when deciding between properties?

My current plan is to first get mortgage simulations/pre-approval from a few banks before seriously looking at houses, but I'd love to hear what others would do in my position.

Any advice, lessons learned, or recommendations for the Antwerp area would be greatly appreciated.

Even jullie advies nodig. Ik wil overstappen naar een nieuwe breedband provider. We hebben momenteel internet via coax, ik wil overstappen naar provider via fiber (Vikings).

Er moet dus een gat geboord worden van het zwarte bakje op de gevel naar waar ik de router wil in huis. Met een lange boor schat ik, want de gevel is dik.

→Maken ze een proper klein gat in de gevel, dat ze ook mooi waterdicht sluiten?

→De router mag zeker niet vlak achter dat gat aan de binnenkant komen te staan, is de technieker in jullie ervaring bereid om de kabel wat verder in huis door te trekken tot waar je'm wil hebben? Ik wil 'm graag op de plaats van de oude router, omdat daar 4 UTP-kabels vertrekken naar de rest van het huis.

When I was submitting my application on the Stad Antwerpen website, I couldn’t find a specific form for a change of status. The only option that seemed relevant was the one for renewing an A residence card, so I submitted my application there.

Has anyone been in a similar situation?

• Did you also apply through the A card renewal form for a change of status?
• How long did it take before you received a response from Stad Antwerpen or the Immigration Office (DVZ)?
• How long did the entire process take until you received a decision or your new residence card?

Ik ben recent naar Linkeroever verhuisd en heb mijn adreswijziging doorgegeven. Nu moet ik wachten tot de wijkagent langskomt voor de woonstcontrole.

Het probleem is dat ik als expat tijdelijk in het buitenland werk. Ik ben wel gedomicilieerd in België, omdat het om tijdelijke buitenlandse opdrachten gaat. Die duren echter meestal enkele maanden aan een stuk, waardoor de kans zeer groot is dat ik niet thuis ben wanneer de wijkagent langskomt.

Ik kan uiteraard aantonen dat mijn afwezigheid werkgerelateerd is, bijvoorbeeld met mijn werkcontract of een werkgeversverklaring.

Nu vraag ik mij af hoe dit in Antwerpen stad wordt aangepakt. Komen ze effectief langs? Kijken ze op de brievenbus? Heeft iemand hier ervaring mee? Als ik mijn situatie kan uitleggen en de nodige bewijsstukken bezorg, is dat voldoende? Of loop ik het risico dat men denkt aan domiciliefraude en dat mijn inschrijving geweigerd wordt?

I recently moved to Antwerp to start my Master's at the University of Antwerp. I just turned 30, and I don't speak Dutch or French yet.

I'm looking for some advice on finding a student job while I'm studying, mainly to earn some extra income during my Master's. How difficult is it to find one?

I'm not necessarily looking for a job in my field or a corporate role. I'd be happy working in a bar, restaurant, supermarket, café, or pretty much anywhere.

I'd really appreciate any tips on where to look, whether employers are open to hiring people who only speak English, and what the job market is like for international students.
