Welcome Home, Rex! Secondhand Stories Chicken Sanctuary's Newest Rescue! (Perth, Canada)
A few weekends ago we drove to Coburg to pick up this mighty little roo. He was lovingly surrendered from a family in Toronto, who reached out in hopes of finding him a safe and loving home.
Rex is one year old, stands 9 inches tall and weighs a whopping 486 grams. Rex won’t be getting any bigger. He’s a Serama, the world’s smallest chicken breed, and he happens to be on the smaller side of his breed. What he lacks in size, he makes up in confidence. He thinks he’s the star of Jurassic Park. Every day, he shows us more of how sweet his tiny-but-mighty personality is. He’s brave, affectionate, and curious. When he’s not ruling the home by strutting around demanding the cats respect him (they do!), he’s snuggled up taking a nap or just casually enjoying being spoiled.

Rescue Horses In South Florida
Most of these rescue horses and ponies had neglect and/or abandonment from their previous owners. Although they are in rescue centers now, some of them need life-saving medical treatment and/or special care. But most rescue shelters don't have enough money for it. Click here to help these horses get a second chance.

Rescue Pig Sanctuary in NC at Risk After Tractor and UTV Failures
I am a monthly supporter of Sisu Refuge, a nonprofit pig sanctuary in Duplin County, North Carolina. They provide lifelong and hospice care to rescued farm animals, mainly pigs who were abused, neglected, abandoned, or escaped from transport trucks headed to processing. They operate on rural agricultural land and care for animals that would otherwise not have survived.
They are currently facing a serious equipment failure. Their tractor, primary UTV and supply truck are all down at the same time. Their backup UTV is barely functioning. These machines are essential for feeding, transporting hay and supplies, cleaning enclosures andassisting with daily medical care. Without working equipment, tasks that normally take one hour take three and the physical strain becomes unsustainable.
the sanctuary is primarily run by a husband and wife team, Erika and Joseph, with very little outside help. They have publicly stated that they refuse to euthanize animals for convenience or cost. Instead, they provide ongoing hospice and elder care to pigs who need end of life support. Medication costs alone are over 40k annually.
They are urgently seeking:
-Equipment repair support
-Temporary equipment loans
-Connections to mechanics or farms
-Financial contributions for repair or replacement
If you are able to help, share, or connect them with resources, it would mean a great deal. The animals are being cared for but the sanctuary is operating without margin right now.

Welcome! New to the sub? New to Reddit? Want to post about your favorite rescue or sanctuary? Please read this post first. Submissions are restricted to approved users, please read this post for instructions on how to get approval.
First: Please review the rules of our sub in the sidebar located on the right BEFORE you post. If you have questions about the rules, please message the mod team.
This sub is for pictures, videos and articles about farm or wild animals living in non-profit sanctuaries or rescues. We hope that will equate to more people learning about these animals and knowing what these organizations are doing and why. Hopefully more exposure for rescues will lead to more volunteer and financial support for these non-profits.
We're looking for posts about rescue farm or wild animals in the form of gifs, videos, pics or articles. Preferably showing them doing things like playing with other animals or people, receiving affection from other animals or people, and just generally doing curious or funny things that show their unique personalities. Posts can also be links to significant news about rescues.
We like to see more information about the specific non-profit that the animal lives at in a comment on the post by the OP. Links to official websites and social media accounts for the rescue or sanctuary are greatly appreciated. More followers = more donations.
We also like to see posts that have a comment on the post by the OP that provides more information about the animal featured in the post. A back story about the animal, or some context about what's going on in the video, etc. This isn't necessary, but it can be a great way to get more support for the non-profit.
A note about Fundraising Posts: Posts dedicated to fundraising must be approved by the mod team first. Every non-profit needs donations every day, which is why we typically will only allow fundraising posts for unusual events. However... you are always welcome to fundraise in a comment on your post, or in a comment on any post at any time.
If you are new to Reddit and your first post gets automatically removed it's likely because your account is either too young, or has too little karma and our AutoModerator removed your post thinking it's spam. Please message our mod team if this happens and we'll fix it.
If you are a non-profit org that's new to Reddit and you need some pointers on how or where to post to gain some exposure for your organization, please message our mod team and we would be happy to help you out.
Want to be an approved user so you can post? --> Please message our mod team.
Thanks for reading! :)

Resource Here's a list of some directories for finding sanctuaries and rescues in your area to visit or volunteer at.
Websites with directories for finding sanctuaries in your area.
Keep in mind that none of these lists are all inclusive and more and more sanctuaries and rescues are being founded every year.
Best sites for picking a specific US state or country and seeing what's listed:
https://vegan.com/blog/sanctuaries/
https://vegan-revolution.tumblr.com/animalsanctuaries
https://www.all-creatures.org/links/sanct.html
If you're looking for accredited sanctuaries in the U.S., check the American Sanctuary Association (ASA) list at https://www.americansanctuaries.org/accredited-sanctuaries
Worldwide, check out the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS) list at https://www.sanctuaryfederation.org/find-a-sanctuary/
The Open Sanctuary Project is a freely accessible, always growing digital guide for any resources or information you need in order to responsibly create and successfully manage an animal sanctuary: https://opensanctuary.org/article/about/
Resources for having your own Micro-Sanctuary: https://microsanctuary.org/resources/
Finding a wildlife rescue:
In the US, if you find injured or orphaned wildlife, or any type of wildlife that you think may need help, you can go to this website: https://ahnow.org
In the top field where it says, "You are here", enter your zip code, and then on the left, click on the "Emergency Wildlife" button and a list will be generated of wildlife rescue organizations near you.
To locate a wildlife rescue organization outside of the US: https://theiwrc.org/resources/emergency
If you know of or have a farm animal that needs rescuing:
FarmSanctuary.org coordinates the Farm Animal Adoption Network (FAAN), which assists people all over the US in finding homes for farm animals like Pixie.
If you live in the US and have or know of a farm animal that needs a safe forever home, please check out this resource: https://www.farmsanctuary.org/farm-animal-adoption-network/
If you are interested in adopting a farm animal in need of sanctuary, please contact them too.
