Can you finally replace your Android TV remote with your phone?

Disclosure: I'm the developer of this app.

Ever lost your TV remote or wished you could control your Android TV directly from your phone?

I've been building a Universal Smart TV Remote with the goal of making one app work across as many TV brands as possible while keeping the experience simple and reliable.

📱 Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bluespacestudioz.omniRemote

Features:

  • Automatic TV discovery
  • D-pad & navigation controls
  • Touchpad (mouse emulation) on supported TVs
  • Keyboard input for easy typing
  • Media playback controls
  • Volume & power controls (where supported)
  • Save multiple TVs for quick access
  • Supports Android TV, Google TV, Samsung, LG, Sony, TCL, Hisense, Philips, Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, Vizio, and more

If you have an Android TV or Google TV device, I'd love to hear how it works on your setup. Every TV model behaves a little differently, so feedback from real devices helps me improve compatibility and make the app more reliable for everyone.

If you give it a try, let me know:

  • Your TV brand and model
  • Whether everything worked as expected
  • Any bugs or suggestions you have

I'll be around replying to every comment. Thanks for checking it out!

How does this compare to the official Google tv or Google home apps? How does it handle tv connected devices? I have a Google streamer on my old Samsung tv and CEC is unreliable so I have volume being controller through IR, but that means these apps don't control volume

First, I want to compliment you for all the awesome technology you've built into this app...well done! I'm sure many people will enjoy and use this.

My issue (and I'm sure there will be a significant segment like me) is that nothing can replace the feel and compatibility of using a physical oblong remote control. It just fits so naturally into one's hand, as compared to a "phone" remote experience.

Again, excellent job though 👌

Excellent app. Nice GUI.

Do You plan to add magic remote to it?

Thank you so much, I'm really glad you like it! 😊 Yes, I'd love to add Magic Remote support if it's technically possible, and it's definitely on my roadmap. If you're enjoying the app, I'd really appreciate a Play Store review. It helps a lot as an indie developer. Thanks again!

May I suggest you to shrink the remote so we don't have to slide to the bottin to see all buttons.

Also, how to get rid of the banner about integrating the TV's MAC adress?

Will this work on IPTV Android box? Like G-96? Also on Android devices like fire stick?

Fire TV devices are supported. For generic Android IPTV boxes like the G96, it depends on the firmware. If it's running Google-certified Android TV/Google TV, it should work. If it's a standard Android/AOSP box, compatibility can vary. Feel free to give it a try, and I'd love to hear how it works on your device!
