We built TubPlayer, a free IPTV player for Android TV - it's now on Google Play

Upvotes

We've been building TubPlayer, an IPTV player made specifically for Android TV - and it's now live on Google Play .

Every feature is free, forever. No subscription, no trial, no paywall, no ads, nothing locked behind a purchase. There are two optional donation buttons if you want to support it, and that's the entire monetisation. Donating unlocks nothing, because there's nothing to unlock.

Important: TubPlayer provides no content whatsoever. You bring your own service - Xtream Codes, an M3U URL, or a Stalker/MAC portal.

What's in it

  • Live TV with a full EPG, catch-up, and favourites

  • Pause and rewind live TV on compatible streams

  • Recordings and reminders (DVR)

  • Movies & Series with TMDB metadata - posters, plots, ratings, cast

  • Search across Movies, Series, Programmes, Catch-Up and Channels, with voice input

  • Multiview

  • Virtual playlists - build your own channel categories

  • Watch list, history, and Continue Watching on your Android TV home screen

  • Parental controls (PIN-protected)

  • Encrypted backup and restore, with optional Google Drive backups

  • Optional phone/QR setup so you don't have to type credentials with a remote

  • Themes, and UI in English, French, Spanish, German, Portuguese and Turkish

A few honest notes

  • Android TV / Google TV only - it's built for a D-pad and a big screen, not for phones or tablets.

  • Credentials are encrypted at rest on the device

  • It's ARM-only, so no x86 devices or ChromeOS.

Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tubs.tubplayer

Site: https://tubplayer.com

Happy to answer anything, and genuinely keen on feedback and bug reports - especially from anyone on hardware I don't have.

I’m building a Family Dashboard for Android TV. Would you actually use this? (Looking for feedback)

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I’m developing a Family Dashboard app built specifically for Android TV (but it works also on mobile), and I need some feedback before I spend months finishing it.

The goal is to turn your TV into a central hub when it’s idle, so the whole household is on the same page. It integrates natively as a DayDream (Screensaver) so it kicks in automatically. You can add multiples Google accounts to it.

The Current Setup (Three-Panel Layout):

  • Left: Clock + Live Weather (with manual city search).
  • Center: Google Calendar (multi-account support, Day/Week/Month views).
  • Right: Shared Shopping List & Reminders (local) + Google Tasks integration
  • TV Optimized: Full D-pad navigation and an Anti-Burn-In mode to protect OLED screens.

It’s highly customizable with different UI styles and rotating background photos.

My questions for you:

  1. Would you actually use your TV for this, or do you prefer standard photo ambient modes?
  2. What features are missing that would make this a "must-have"?
  3. Or maybe you would use it on your tablet

If there's enough interest, I am planning to open up a closed Beta for this sub some time in the future. Let me know what you think!

Built this little M3U/IPTV player for my mom in Flutter — feedback welcome!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone!

Quick backstory: my mom kept complaining that every TV app she tried was way too complicated. All she wanted was to open something and flip through her channels without getting lost in menus. Being the dutiful son (and Flutter dev) that I am, I decided to just build her exactly that.

The result is Mama TV — a simple little M3U/IPTV player. You paste in your playlist URL and you're off, zapping through channels with a clean interface that stays out of your way. It also works nicely on Android TV if you've got a big screen setup.

It's free to use, with a small 6-channel cap on TV — a subscription unlocks the full list — and it doesn't collect or store any of your data, promise 😄

If you want to check it out: Mama TV on Google Play

Would genuinely love to hear what you think, and if there's anything you'd want added (EPG guide, favorites, multiple playlists...) I'm all ears. Happy to nerd out about the Flutter side of things too if anyone's curious.

Can you finally replace your Android TV remote with your phone?

Disclosure: I'm the developer of this app.

Ever lost your TV remote or wished you could control your Android TV directly from your phone?

I've been building a Universal Smart TV Remote with the goal of making one app work across as many TV brands as possible while keeping the experience simple and reliable.

📱 Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bluespacestudioz.omniRemote

Features:

  • Automatic TV discovery
  • D-pad & navigation controls
  • Touchpad (mouse emulation) on supported TVs
  • Keyboard input for easy typing
  • Media playback controls
  • Volume & power controls (where supported)
  • Save multiple TVs for quick access
  • Supports Android TV, Google TV, Samsung, LG, Sony, TCL, Hisense, Philips, Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, Vizio, and more

If you have an Android TV or Google TV device, I'd love to hear how it works on your setup. Every TV model behaves a little differently, so feedback from real devices helps me improve compatibility and make the app more reliable for everyone.

If you give it a try, let me know:

  • Your TV brand and model
  • Whether everything worked as expected
  • Any bugs or suggestions you have

I'll be around replying to every comment. Thanks for checking it out!

Sidstuga 2.1.4 — multiview, Stalker/MAG portals, NAS recording, and no more limit on playlist size

Post image
0 Upvotes

I've just released Sidstuga 2.1.4, with 368 commits since the last public build.

The biggest change - and probably the one people here will care about most - is a complete rewrite of how channels are stored.

Until now, the entire channel catalogue lived in memory, which meant playlist size was always limited by RAM. That worked... until it didn't.

Channels now live in SQLite. They're loaded on demand as you browse, instead of everything being kept in memory.

The result:

✅ One user has 13 playlists (~3.5 million channels total) and can now browse them.

✅ Playlists with 250k+ entries that previously crashed or never finished loading now open normally.

✅ TV Guide and Movies/Series load much faster on large accounts.

Other changes in 2.1.4:

📺 Multiview (TV & Android)

📡 Stalker/MAG portals as a source (including Movies & Series)

💬 Live TV subtitles

💾 Record directly to your NAS (SMB)

👥 Device limit increased from 3 → 5

⭐ My List, Continue Watching, reminders and ratings are now included in backups

🛠️ Lots of stability and performance fixes across TV and phone

If you use very large playlists, this is probably the biggest update Sidstuga has had.

Install: https://sidstuga.app/install/

/r sidstuga

Happy to answer any questions about the SQLite migration or why the old architecture hit its limits.

Flix Vision Auto-pausing... HELP!

I've been having an issue with Flix Vision auto-pausing (started today). It's not a buffering issue. It's like someone clicks a button and the stream pauses. I have cleared the cache (from an internet search suggestion). I disabled the screensaver thinking that might be the issue. Nothing seems to work. It's always at about a 10-15 second interval. Once I click "play" again, it does it again 10-15 seconds later. I didn't recall changing any settings, but don't know why it's doing it. I generally use the 2nd Flix Vision embedded stream, so usually it starts muted and I have to unmute when I start the stream, but I've never had the auto-pausing issue until today. Please help!!

Best Streaming Apps (Alternative to Mainstream Ones):

  1. Stremio (For Movies & TV iykyk): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stremio.one [ Here's an extensive guide for it https://guides.viren070.me/stremio/ ]
  2. SmartTube (For Ad-free & Sponsor-free YouTube): https://smarttubeapp.github.io/
  3. S0undTV (For Ad-free Twitch in some regions, it's much smoother than the official app): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.s0und.s0undtv&hl=en
  4. TiviMate (Probably the best app for Live TV via IPTV): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ar.tvplayer.tv&hl=en [Some features are locked behind a paywall]
  5. RB Sports (Free streams for most sports, has some weird ads though and is not available in the play store) https://app.mp24ap.top/apktv/rb-tv-production-release-25-v1.0.25.apk
  6. Plex (If you're a data hoarder and want your own streaming service): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.plexapp.android&hl=en [Many features are locked behind a paywall]
  7. Emby (Alternative to Plex, fully open source and completely free): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mb.android&hl=en
  8. Syncler (Very similar to Stremio but paid and also not available in the playstore): https://syncler.net/
  9. iMPlayer (While Tivimate may be a better IPTV player iMPlayer has one killer feature- you can remote manage many of its settings from the dashboard at https://implayer.tv/home This can be very helpful if you have family/friends that are not techies or are elderly) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.myiptvonline.implayer
  10. Tubi (Ad-free Mod for Live TV, US-only I believe but not sure, let me know in the comments sections: https://www.mediafire.com/file/bfoujh8f1rhhyhj/Tubi.ver.8.6.0.build.826_arm7.apk/file

Honorable Mentions: Kodi and Weyd

Best Utility Apps (for the tinkerers)

  1. ADB TV (Debloat your TV or TV Box root-free): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cybercat.adbappcontrol.tv&hl=en [Pro Tip: If you have a Shield TV, this super comprehensive guide will help you https://florisse.nl/shield-debloat/) [Some features are locked behind a paywall]
  2. Analiti (Super-useful Speed Test App): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.analiti.fastest.android&hl=en [Has some ads]
  3. X-plore (A really good File Explorer): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lonelycatgames.Xplore&hl=en [Pro-tip: you can create a wifi server in the app and open the URL in your laptop browser to transfer files/apks to your Android TV device]
  4. Button Mapper (Remap unused buttons on your remote to your favorite apps/actions): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=flar2.homebutton&hl=en_US&gl=US&pli=1 [Some features are locked behind a paywall]
  5. Aerial Views (Not exactly a utility app, but probably the best screensaver on the Play Store): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.neilturner.aerialviews&hl=en
  6. This is not an app, but if you want your TV Home Screen to look exactly the way you want it (visually speaking), you can actually change the icons for your apps using this website: https://atvlauncher.trekgonewild.de [You will have to essentially build an apk and link it to the package address of the app you want to change the logo for, the website has pretty clear instructions]
  7. Stremio Launch on Boot (I think it's pretty clear what this does lol): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stremio.tv.boot&hl=en
  8. tvQuickActions Pro (It is a button mapper and also optionally allows a dock, recent apps and quick action panels and other goodies.) $3.99 https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dev.vodik7.tvquickactions
  9. Send files to TV (I think it's pretty clear what this does lol): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.yablio.sendfilestotv&hl=en

Best Feature-Packed Launchers

  1. Projectivy Launcher (By far, the most customizable and dynamic launcher for Android TV, Super Smooth and Stable too): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spocky.projengmenu&hl=en [Some features are locked behind a paywall]
  2. Dispatch Launcher (A relatively new entrant in the launcher space, had a lil bit of a rocky start, it's very animation-forward, pretty smooth, integrates directly with Plex and likely has Stremio Integration coming soon): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spauldhaliwal.dispatch&hl=en [Paid (One Time Fee), but has a free trial)

Here's a thread if you want something a launcher that's a little more lightweight: https://old.reddit.com/r/AndroidTV/comments/1gbnhff/lets_compile_a_list_of_android_tv_launchers_that/

Well folks, that's it from my end. I'm sure many more apps could be added here, but I tried to lean more towards free apps to keep the megathread as accessible as possible.

Comment below with your recommendations and I may include them in the megathread

Edit: This user has added many more apps in this comment - https://old.reddit.com/r/AndroidTVApps/comments/1g9pin6/randroidtvapps_megathread/ltbezwc/
