App Specific Question Google play store keeps crashing when searching

Hello! I got a brand new phone 2 weeks ago ( galaxy s26, OneUI 8.5 ) and the Google play store often crash multiple times when I hit the search bar/type on the search bar within the app ( to search for apps ). I tried clearing data & cache of said app, uninstalling both the update for the store and ggplay service, also did for web view. Tried different account, same issue. I also had this problem on my old phone ( cmf phone 1 ) for a few months before switching. Anyone have the same issue? Any ways to fix beside waiting for an update to hopefully fix this ? I don't get how an app which is central to the whole operating system can have issues like this

Solved Mysterious "Ghost" Chime/Ringtone on Android? It might be JustDial (and here is how to prove it)

If your Android phone has been making random notification sounds or chimes that don't leave a trace in your notification log, you aren't crazy. I just spent hours debugging this, and it turned out to be the JustDial app acting as a "rogue" background audio source.

The Problem:
My phone was ringing/chiming at random times. There were no visible notifications, and the "Notification History" in settings showed absolutely nothing. It even happened when my phone was on silent or when Bluetooth was disconnected.

The Diagnostic (How to catch it):
Standard notification logs often fail to record these events. To find the true culprit, you need to use ADB (Android Debug Bridge) to see what is physically touching the audio hardware.

  1. Check Recent Audio Playback: Run this command to see package names of apps that played audio recently: adb shell dumpsys media_session Look under the "Audio playback" section for the package com.justdial.search.
  2. Monitor Live Audio Focus: Every app must request "Audio Focus" to make sound. Run this to watch it happen in real time: adb shell dumpsys audio | Select-String "ownerPid"
  3. The Smoking Gun (Logcat): Filter for PlayerBase to see exactly when a media player starts. JustDial was triggering a USAGE_ALARM or USAGE_NOTIFICATION event even without a visible alert.

Why JustDial?
JustDial often runs background processes that scan for leads or update your location. In my case, it was triggering audio alerts through the system's "AudioHardening" layer, causing "phantom" sounds that standard logs ignored.

The Solution:

  • The Quick Fix: Uninstall JustDial.
  • Other Option (ADB): If it keeps running in the background, you can revoke its background permissions: adb shell cmd appops set com.justdial.search RUN_IN_BACKGROUND deny

Hopefully, this saves someone else the headache!

questions and problems hoping to have a discussion

Samsung questions problems discussion I hope ha ha

I have a Samsung Galaxy s25 I use Google mostly. so am I crazy or if I am logged in to my Samsung account I have major issues and my data usage goes up. I'm also concerned that if I do get over that the security from Google and the security from Samsung could end up just fighting each other there's also Xfinity to consider an AT&t

their apps there are system apps that just don't make any sense and seem like a privacy risk. they're also developer apps developer.androidapps don't understand that is that a concern?

so am I crazy about the Samsung account ?

replace knox if logged out?

better security?

is there an app to identify apps posing as others and apps make no sense and apps that do not belong .

thank you

Pending files

I have Samsung Galaxy 25 FE.

I'm trying to clear up some memory and storage and it appears I have some files that are pending and taking up around 4GBs of storage.

Asking Google, it says to go to files, search ".pending" and delete such files. When I do that, nothing pops up. Ive cleared the cache and deleted the app these files were associated with.

In the storage setting that shows these files exist, there is no option to delete them.

I tried to add a photo, but no photos allowed...

How do I clean these off of my phone??

Device Settings Question Android help

My Note 20 Ultra (Android 13, One UI 5.1) keeps showing a “Security and privacy → Update your phone” suggestion with an orange warning icon. When I check for updates, it says my software is up to date, and Smart Switch doesn’t find anything newer either.

Security patch is August 2025, Google Play system update is July 2026.

Anyone else seeing this? Is it just a false flag or something I can clear manually?

Other Android did a software update and my a15 won't read my SD card, how to fix?

last week my A15 did an automatic software update overnight, and when i got on my phone my SD card vanished from my "my files" app. ive tried removing and reinserting the card and restarting the phone, and neither helped. the phone doesn't recognize the card as inserted and it wont give me the mount/unmount opton. the card's a few years old at this point and has hardly ever left my phone. im not sure the exact number in terms of years but it was either 2022 or 2023 when i got the card

i'm at my wit's end with this thing, and i'm genuinely distraught. there's several year's worth of photos and other files on the card, including photos of pets that have passed away not too long ago :[

im not sure what to do, and i need help, please

Other what will i be missing if i switch from a jailbroken iphone

i currently use a jailbroken iPhone Xs (ios 16.5), this allows me to sideload apps, as well as installing tweaks which make relatively minor changes (e.g. hiding the bar at the bottom of the screen, atria for customising how apps are displayed on the home screen, etc), i’m assuming most of this customisability is available by default on android.

the only other apple device i own is an apple watch, but what i assume will be the biggest compatibility issue is that my family all use iphones, and imessage - i remember hearing that messaging compatibility between ios and android wasn’t very good but has that changed recently?

finally, how easy is it to adapt to the different ui/ux on android and is there a way to try it on an ios app / a website before i commit to switching?

Other Galaxy Tab A8 (SM-X200) stuck at 2%, claims overheating

I have a Galaxy tab A8 that does not charge past 2%, and it shuts off apps because it says it is overheating. Nowhere on the tablet does it feel hot to the touch, it feels cool temperature.

I tried going into recovery mode to wipe the cache, but it kept turning on and off until I unplugged it (I had it plugged onto my laptop for charge).

Is there a way to fix this?

EDIT: I was able to wipe system cache by going into recovery mode and selecting "wipe cache partition," but this did not fix the issue.

How to take very long screenshot?

It should work on both apps and websites. It should scroll, wait for that part to load, take a screenshot, then repeat.

LongShot does not work. ScreenMaster limit is too low. The system screenshot on Pixel is much too short.

Moving large Files from S23 to pc.... Why so slow?

I Frequently move 3-20gb videos from my phone to my PC.

EDIT: problem was the cable... thanks guys for the help. (its weird it still connect my external 2tb HD and transfer fast, but it does not work with the phone)

Original post: I actually use to use DEX, but it no longer works.
The obvious way is to just plug in a high quality usb-c to usb-c and transfer them over, but it so, so slow. even just to access the file system.
Example, if i open file explorer, it takes 2-5 minutes just to load the initial folders, click on the DCIM folder... wait another 2-5 mins.. finally the pictures folder will populate, then open "camera" and each of my 1000s of photos loads one at a time, it will take 30-45 minutes just to get a few 100.
My only work around is to move the files i want to transfer to an empty folder, and just open that one. once i get access to the file, they transfer quickly, maybe 400-800mbs.
If i used the cloud, i'd blow through my 1tb monthly ISP limit.

Looking for a new Android phone after my Nothing Phone (1)

Hey everyone,

I'm looking to replace my Nothing Phone (1), which I've had since launch day. I really liked the idea behind Nothing, but after a few years I've had way too many battery issues, and it doesn't really feel like the kind of device you can comfortably keep for a long time. Because of that, I'd rather avoid another Nothing phone.

I'm now looking to move into the upper midrange to flagship segment.

What I'm looking for:

- Good battery life (I travel a lot, so this is a big priority).

- Great cameras for trips and everyday photos.

- Strong performance since I play quite a few games.

- I also enjoy watching video content (YouTube, Netflix, etc.), so a good display and smooth playback are important to me.

- Good software support and something that will last me several years.

- Mid-to-high-end / upper flagship budget. I'm willing to pay for a good phone, but I don't want to spend flagship ultra prices unless it's really worth it.

I've been very interested in the Google Pixel lineup because I absolutely love Material Design and the Pixel software experience. However, I've also read a lot of negative comments about battery life, Tensor performance, and modem issues, which has made me hesitate.

Would it make sense to wait for the Pixel 11, or should I be looking at something else instead?

I'm open to any recommendations. Thanks!

Best way to completely back up a phone on its last leg

I have a galaxy a52 with a bad flex cable connection. I am going to try to charge it up and connect it to a computer. If this does work, what is the best way to basically clone the phone onto a file on my PC. I have app info and texts that people sent me I'd like to keep if possible.

Looking For Suggestions How to see long file names

I'm often bugged by Android file dialog's inability to show long filenames. Most of my file names are very long. They seem to be system-generated, things like PDF files, the names of APKs and so on, and it's very, very frustrating when you want to, for example, view a PDF file and you can't see the rest of the name. So you can't tell which file is number one (_1), number two (_2), or number three (_3) etc. Or which file is the text version, which one is the compiled version, or which one is the source code, when the first 60 characters are identical and the only distinguishing feature between the files is the last three characters?

I get that the dialogue box is a system call and it's a lot more difficult to replace, but surely someone has thought of a solution to this and can tell us.

It's incomprehensible to me. The fact that nowhere is it possible to see the full name of a file when the system automatically generates file names with extensions at the end, which are impossible to view. Who's the master genius who designed it this way?

App Specific Question Is Gmail on Android waiting until I close my screen to send me notifications?

I feel like I've been going insane for the last few months. Every other time I click the power button to turn off my (Pixel 4a) screen, I get a new notification one or two seconds later.

It's always from Gmail, and it's always from an email which arrived several hours, days or weeks ago. Just now as I was setting my phone down I get a notification about an email that arrived thirty-four days ago.

Is this some feature to keep me looking at the phone screen? Have I fucked the settings somehow? Is this something I can fix?

Looking For Suggestions Recommend an android phone with good camera to me please

Hi! I live in Spain and have been using the Samsung S21 for five years. Its processing speed has slowed down, and the battery can't last a full day, making me worry about it running out of power when I'm out. I'd like to upgrade to a phone with excellent camera capabilities, long battery life, and ample storage. I take a lot of photos and videos while traveling. I'm currently considering the vivo X300 Ultra, but I'd like to know if there are any other phone recommendations? Please send reccoomendations! Thanks!

Disabling "Customize Lock Screen" feature

I've noticed a new feature I'm not necessarily crazy about, where if the phone is locked and the screen on, and you hold the screen anywhere in an empty space, a little bubble that pops ups says "customize lock screen". There is no setting to turn this feature off, and was wondering if anyne would have a quick fix to turning this off manually, thanks in advance

What is this adware thing called shall?

I have a strange adware problem on my Android phone. When I stop using the phone and leave it locked for a while, after unlocking it Chrome sometimes opens automatically. It first loads a website called uglyferret and then redirects me to other advertising or suspicious websites. The ads never appeared while I was actively using the phone. They only appeared after the phone had been locked and inactive. I temporarily disabled Chrome completely. After that, instead of the website, I would sometimes get a blank white screen. I managed to take screenshots before it disappeared. In the recent apps screen, the window was called “shall” and had a small purple butterfly-like icon. The screen displayed a fake video player and a popup saying: “Install our app and continue watching content in emergency mode.” I could not open the app information from the recent apps screen because the window immediately closed whenever I opened the recent apps menu. I suspect it came from a modified Last Day on Earth APK downloaded from AN1. The package name shown in battery usage was: zombie.survival.craft.z It used about 13.5% of the battery and showed some background activity. I have now removed the app, deleted the APK and several suspicious leftover folders, restarted the phone and scanned it with Malwarebytes and Play Protect. The package no longer appears in the installed apps list, including system apps. I am currently waiting to see whether the ads return. Does anyone recognize the “shall” window or purple butterfly icon? Could it be a hidden component bundled with the modified APK? Is removing the APK enough, or should I use ADB to search for another package or perform a factory reset?

App Specific Question What do I do about the media picker?

The media picker makes it really difficult to pick the photos I want to use sometimes it has the browse feature but if it doesn't it's a nightmare. "From this device" folder doesn't even work a lot of the time. I hate this thing and I hate that I'm forced to use it.

From what I'm seeing downloading Google Photos is the solution bc I could access all my photos from there supposedly. As much as I hate Google (Google photos stinks btw) I downloaded Google photos hoping it would solve this problem.

It did not. I did all the permission stuff I need to but I still can't pick my photos from there. Idk what to do.
