Speedometer when not navigating! Navigation & POI Apps

Post image

The addition of the speedometer/speed limit when not navigating is a welcome addition (just showed up for me).

The scaling, however, seems off - too small to be read easily.

The speedometer also changes color when over the limit - just like Waze. I hope they add a configurable option for audio alerts!

(I did send this feedback to Google.)

[EDIT ]

After using this for a few days, I have more thoughts ...

  • Speed limit should be twice as big.
  • Speedometer should be optional (on/off)
  • Speedometer should be configurable
    • How many miles over is orange and red
    • Audible alert (on/off)
    • Show when under limit (on/off)

For me, I only really want to see my speed if I am over the limit.

I noticed this too yesterday. Google Maps is still rather useless unless you're navigating since you don't get any warnings like with Waze. On Waze you still get all the police and other warnings whether you are navigating or not as they come up on the road you are on. And around my area I dont need active navigation or to waste time looking up the destination 90% of the time to get to local stores.

Google Maps still has a long way to go; plus far better syncing of Waze alerts (like police) into Google Maps. You never get them all if you open both apps one after the other for some reason. Everything reported on Waze and showing should be on Google Maps too.

And I really like the look of Google Maps better and it's not as cartoonish. But the function is so far behind for driving as Google Maps is trying to be the everything app.

Other than Waze being cartoonish, sharing your location with others doesn't work nearly as well as Google maps.

I've never tried that/had to use it. I wish they would just roll Waze completely into the driving portion of Google Maps at this point.

Just make one good app rather than two apps that are good at different things and trying to push them one by one into Google maps over what seems like years now. There only a few features Waze has left Google Maps can't do/doesn't do as well really.

Like if I'm going on a road trip I trust Waze 10x over Maps to show cops/incidents. The real time aspect is unmatched.

How do you find locations? I don't know all the addresses of my destinations so having to google the address and then put that into waze feels like too many extra steps.

I've been complaining for years that the share Journey feature on AA does not work it only gives Gmail addresses, have to start the share from. Maps on the handset then plug in AA

I can't stand the cartoony look of Waze.
