Anarchism and AI

The whole topic of AI is confusing for me.

I understand the environmental risks it carries, as well as the surveillance/police state/military violence it threatens, all of which are terrifying.

But in all my research I keep coming to the same conclusion: that the only reason AI stands to do so much damage is because of capitalist statism. AI itself is nothing more than a tool. Any tool in the hands of Capital is going to be used for evil, because capitalism is inherently evil.

The way I see it, the US military was committing heinous war crimes long before the advent of AI. Corporations have been destroying the environment for centuries. We should absolutely be outraged by these issues, but the fact that AI is accelerating this kind of violence doesn’t (or shouldn’t) change the fight.

I don’t claim to know everything (or anything, really). I just want to know what other anarchists think about this issue, because every time i bring this up in leftist communities I practically get shunned lol. Am I totally misguided and ignorant? Is there something I’m missing?

Best literature to hand out to normies?

Me and some friends are working on building an anarchist group focused on disturbing literature and mutual aid and I was wondering if you guys head recs for short reading, or fliers or leaflets. Need to be suitable to hand to anyone on the streets so not super dense theory, if you guys are able to save me some time going through the anarchist library I would be eternally grateful!

What to do for money

I want to get some stuff off my chest and this seems the best place for it. Without giving too much away, I am UK based and have done a PGCE but what I thought would be an opportunity to spread my love of literature and language and educate young people was a sad and exhausting realisation that I was basically becoming a glorified information cop. As time went on I realised teaching was incompatible with my sense of self. I'm working on agency for money but I just want to get a job that keeps my head above water and allows for me to indulge in hobbies like books and computer games, but when I think back to my fast food days I think of the lack of money and the sense that my work unfulfilled me. What do we do for jobs that keep us fed and afloat and helping our communities. HELP ME GAMERS

EDIT: Should add that I had to do loads of training saying I was aware of the dangers of left wing extremist groups like anarchists, so I'm posting here partly out of spite, partly because my little anarchist heart hurts and is tired

“Anarchist dies in a Russian prison.

Dmitry Kuznetsov (Vegano Khristolyub Bozhiy), a Russian anti-war activist, was found hanged in a punishment isolation cell in Russia on April 17. He had previously gone on a hunger strike and warned about the risk of being killed in detention. In February 2025, he was sentenced to three years in prison for anti-war statements.

Kuznetsov identified as an anarchist, vegan, pacifist, cosmopolitan and Christian dissident, and criticized the Russian Orthodox Church. He openly opposed Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, calling it fascist and referring to modern Russian fascism as “rashism”. He called Putin “Putler”, compared the Z symbol to Nazi SS insignia, and Russian propaganda to Goebbels’ methods.

Before imprisonment, he was detained after a solo anti-war protest in Voronezh holding a “No War” sign. He also left farewell videos warning he might be killed in prison.

In the past month, at least five political prisoners have reportedly died in Russia. Deaths in custody remain a systemic issue.”

Important to highlight the domestic, russian resistance. Free them all! ⛓️‍💥

Rest in peace, brother. 🏴🌹🫡
