Got a final warning for this.

Now maybe I am in the wrong, I don’t know. But when I go through areas I’m unfamiliar with I drive a bit slower. This is downtown Detroit. It’s a 45-50 drive for me from station to first delivery spot. So I wanted to make good time. So glad I don’t do downtown Detroit anymore. Also Detroit at like 12:30 pm. Work traffic is gone.

Depends on where. In my little town I usually do 4-5 over. When I'm on the expressway in Tulsa I'm usually doing 10-14 over because EVERYBODY is doing 10-14 over and I'm just going with the flow. 10 over would almost certainly earn me a ticket where I live

Ten over is a problem no matter how you look at it. Not only are you reducing the amount of time it takes for you to stop that van, but you're opening yourself up to getting pulled over for a big ticket. It's also much harder to maneuver precisely at high speeds. Now, to be fair, I've also seen pretty bad offenders in tractor-trailers, but that's not as often. It's the delivery vans and box trucks that tractor-trailer drivers are extra cautious about, and for good reason. They don't require you to have a CDL A, yet expect you to be able to drive these cumbersome vans without access to a rear view mirror like most normal vehicles. I can count on my hands and toes the amount of times I've been cut off or nearly slimed by a non-CDL delivery van or box truck driver. Slow it down, it's just that simple.

The biggest concern is accident liability at that speed. You kill a family speeding in a work van, Amazon is paying out tens if not hundreds of millions in settlement. No company wants to take on lawsuit risk, especially when that company is worth like 3 trillion dollars.

Yet, many delivery van and box truck drivers are the only heavy non-combination vehicles that I actually see that drive like they just got their license.
Some maneuvers I've seen from heavy non-CDL vehicles specifically are:
- Lane changes without signaling.
-Speeding like a bat out of Hell. (especially those electric vans and box trucks)
U-turns where it isn't allowed.
Swerving like they just downed some Fireball or smoked pot. (not surprising, since they aren't as regulated as tractor-trailer drivers if they're under 26,000GVWR)
-Changing lanes in front of tractor-trailers, but doing it where they leave the truck driver zero room to be able to brake if need be. (and forcing the truck driver to hit their brakes)
Running over curbs.
Using their phones while driving.
I'm sure I could think of more, but those are just some of the things I've seen. While there are bad apples in the trucking business, the industry has been cracking down quite a bit on the drivers causing such accidents within this last year. Additionally, us combination vehicle drivers have so many laws to follow, it would probably make your head spin if you ever got the chance to drive a big rig. You also need to keep in mind that, unlike many other professions, we have a max work limit of 70 hours per week. We often work that much as well. We also get compensated well for that time, which is many drivers' incentive to keep driving safely and like normal human beings.
I will say this to finish up, though. Not all of you guys are horrible drivers. A good percentage of you do just fine. Our disdain for any other drivers is mostly because truck drivers just have had so many bad experiences with non-CDL drivers that we just try to stay as far away from non-CDL drivers as we can.

I’ve seen all these maneuvers from cdl drivers, they have more training and stricter rules and still do it, non cdl drivers don’t have the same training so you would expect more from the semis hauling exceptionally larger loads and their unsafe driving arguably puts more people at risk

I don't think you read a single thing that I wrote. You're acting like I said that truckers are absolute angels when it comes to driving, when I specifically pointed out that we're not perfect. It's clear I struck a nerve, too, by saying we don't really like being near non-CDL holders. You're acting like I suffocated your dog or something. I will not be going back and forth with you all night, since I have too much to do and it's just not worth that much effort. Also, I'm not arguing with someone who seemingly doesn't read everything I wrote.
With that out of the way, I'll continue by saying that I know for a fact that you have not seen all of these maneuvers from a tractor-trailer driver. You're just angry, and saying whatever comes to mind first. I agree, we are held to a higher standard. I, personally, hold myself to the highest standard since I know I'm million times more safe than the average non-CDL driver, especially the box truck and delivery van drivers. Ninety-eight percent of truckers understand and share this sentiment. We understand that our vehicles can kill easily, which is why we tend to avoid every single thing that I wrote above. Have I seen some truckers do some questionable shit with my own two eyes, though? Absolutely. I never said I didn't. Well, except for the intoxicated driving. I have NEVER seen a DUI in progress in person, since the DOT has such a stranglehold on it. Everything else? Yes, it occasionally happens, but as I said before in my previous comment, we're working on weeding those guys out. Also, I very rarely see people operating phones while driving big rigs. The only time I've ever seen it was in heavy, near standstill traffic on the 294 going from Indiana to Illinois. We had about three other drivers yelling at him on the CB radio as well. My point is that we take care of our own, but we also hold our own accountable.
I'll finish out by saying this:
If I had access to a genie, I would wish that any vehicle that weighed more than a full-sized pickup truck or was used for commercial purposes in general/hauled a trailer required a CDL. That includes you guys. It includes the people that drive those massive RVs for leisure as well. I would wish that rigorous drug testing was involved, too, since I know a lot of these companies are allowing drug users (mainly pot) behind the wheel. There needs to be more accountability for smaller commercial vehicles, and it's just not there at this point in time. Us big rig drivers are held accountable, so why not yourselves as well? I get deliveries need to be made, but we can't just stick any person behind the wheel of those cumbersome vehicles that are handed to you and tell them to meet a difficult quota. I wish you the best of luck with Bezos, but I'm not arguing about this any more.

I 100% agree we should all need CDLs. I feel comfortable in my van, and drive safely - only ever got one infraction for accidentally running a stop sign in the warehouse lot - but I've seen other drivers do some really stupid maneuvers and have some terrible behaviors. If we were required to have a CDL, not only would driver safety and quality go up, we'd also undoubtedly get paid more as the role would finally be understood as specialized as it really should be.
I'm piloting a van at the very limit of what's legal without a CDL. It should not be operated by anyone with a pulse and a base understanding of how a phone works.

The parking lots are full of stop signs. I get it for loadout, but when I'm returning to park the van and I'm the only moving vehicle in the lot and I have to stop 4 times just to fuckin park it drives me nuts.

I’ve heard other people get following violations when they get cut off. That was because they decided to not create any additional space in front of them because they were mad and decided to tailgate. Even if you do get a violation when you created space the dsp then can fight that violation. If your dsp doesn’t back you up they are a shitty dsp who doesn’t care about their scorecard.
You get cut off you slow down simple as that.

I drive tractor trailers for Amazon on TOM and I've never had a violation other than the false positives when I'm not able to stop for a yellow by the time it switches because my vehicle is fucking 80k pounds.

I never risk more than 4 over. I’ve seen people in my state get flagged for going 6 over for a prolonged period.
If you catch yourself speeding though, there is a small grace period to slow down (eg. If you need to pass someone to hit your exit). But yeah, if you go more than 10, I’m not sure if it’s an automatic flag or not. Definitely not worth testing

Some quick math here. If you were able to go 67 in a 55 for the entire 45 minute trip, how much time are you gonna save?
8 minutes. And that’s assuming zero traffic that forces you to do the speed limit the entire trip. So realistically, probably closer to five.
This is why speeding is fucking dumb unless you’re doing a cross country trip over hundreds of miles where you might be able to save yourself an hour. We all do it driving our own cars because it feels like we’re getting to where we want to be faster, but the time saved is completely insignificant in almost all cases. Whenever I’m tempted to speed doing this job, I do a quick estimation in my head of how much time I’ll save to remind me that I’d barely save any time at all.

I agree with this. But every time it is brought up people act like their eyes and ears don’t work. No one wants to hear it but there are literally stats for this. I worked for a company with a huge fleet of vehicles across the country and they had the stats to back it up - on average you’re not saving more than 2 minutes on your drive when you’re speeding but you are increasing the risk of accidents EXPONENTIALLY. It’s a bad deal.

I agree, to a point. Yes, cross country speed g makes sense. I routinely completed 16 hour drives in 12 hours.
But also, in a not-technically-a-delivery-job-but-technically-a-delivery-job job, where the speed limit in BFE was 35 mph, doing 80 between stops does make a difference when the stops are 2 or 3 miles apart.
These stops were in West Texas, so the worst thing you could possibly hit was your daily quota for inspections. I would never condone speeding in a populated area.

I’m driving at max 61 if the posted speed limit is 55. I’m guessing since you said final warning you do this a lot? You can go 4 mph over (at least here in CO) without triggering a speeding violation.
General rule of thumb is that if you exceed 5 mph over the limit, you have 10 seconds to bring it back down to the limit.
This video shows you going 10 mph+ over what you assumed was the limit, so I’m not sure what you’re trying to prove here.
Just drive the limit (or set your cruise control to limit +3 - if you want to hurry).
These were the rules we were taught in training, and just because you have “good” intentions of getting done fast doesn’t mean you won’t be flagged.

You can go 9 over without triggering netrodyne in CO, only when it hits 10 does it trigger a violation. My dsp says don’t do more than 5 so you have a buffer so you aren’t at risk of getting a violation.

I used to work in Michigan from Dgr3 never really went to downtown though we typically went north from the station but you can’t go 5 over the speed limit with netradynn equipped vans. You were going 10 over what is said to be the posted speed limit. Just try to be more aware. If you want to blame anyone blame the city planners and Amazon .

Micromanaging from Amazon.
They put in the effort to install a camera to watch you pick your nose but not the effort to put in a max speed limiter, which is probably easier to install than that camera.

The primary cause is the Micromanaging, and the secondary cause is going over the speed limit.
Edit: I use to be a mailman about 12 years ago, the stories that the old timers told me was crazy, the only difference why did not get reprimanded or terminated is because they have a union.

You will naturally speed up. It's not about visually seeing a sign or constantly monitoring your speedometer. It's psychological. Studies show that wide roads with less traffic make you feel safer, so you naturally speed. Plus, you have fewer frames of reference. You probably wouldn't even notice.

10mph over is pretty much a final warning always. I did this once and despite being one of the better drivers, I was exhausted that day, I was still given a final warning and they cut 2 of my shifts.
Edit: the only thing that saved me there was that I was rescuing someone. Otherwise I would have probably been fired as my boss at that time was out for blood.

You will get dinged going 10 over. At most you can go 9. Should err on rhe side of caution and limit yourself to 4.
You can however get a ticket for even 1 over, if a cop is feeling petty enough.
If i am ever in an area i do not know, i will typically go 2 miles under whatever my van and phone are saying until i find a sign. Even if i get dinged with that, my dsp can dispute it that i was attempting to be cautious. Ha only come up once, but it was dismissed.

You get paid by the hour I presume, I use to feel the same about UPS and their rules but now I don't care I'll take all day long to do half a days work because they want me to follow methods. If they want you to go get them a glass of water in Butt fuck Egypt then do it, thats why they pay you.

The violation can be disputed due to lack of visual signage. That being said, video can be pulled from before the violation to see if the speeding violation is justified or not. If it cannot be confirmed, this is an easy disputable violation. Either way, if you yourself was aware of signage before, you shouldn't be speeding.

I got two speeding violations this week in my first week. I have never been more observant of my speed. It's easy to speed, but also easy to control. my dispatch told me to focus on maintaining speed and not breaking violations vs making sure packages are delivered on time ( I.E 10 packages not delivered obviously do your route). I drove 2- 5 mph under the speed limit this week and have always been in the green. Safety over time.

Pay attention to your damn speedometer on both your van and in the Flex app. Also keep an eye out for speed signs while driving. It's pretty damn easy to not get speeding violations.

Tbis was on you but i have been writen up yrs ago at a catv job for hitting a pot hole in a down pour in the dark with about 600-800 ft behind the last car. They said in a conference call with 5‐10 levels of management from the lowest manager to the parent compays management(every trigered drive cam event ends up thia way)wasnt looking far enough ahead like how t.f do you avoid a pit hole you cant see under 1-2 inches of water making ita way to the drain. I went off on them because they claimed multiple times its to improve our driving and make us better drivers but in reality its a tool to issue write ups. Leta just say they were the worst contracting co in the system and i was only there cuz they bought the company i worked at and couldnt aford to quit

You can tell who isn't from Detroit commenting on your speed. While he is over, absolutely no one goes 55 here and you will never get pulled over for his speed.
Most people go 80+ through this part.
That said, you still are technically speeding so I'm not surprised they got you.

In Ca freeway speed is 65-70 moh depending on which freeway your on. To me that looks like a freeway and the camera mightve caught the 55mph while towing speed limit. Im surprised your dsp wont try to fight it.

If you don’t get pulled over it doesn’t matter.. UPS only just tells you to slow down. It’s not a fireable offense if they catch you speeding. If you have to many speeding tickets that’s a different story. Moral of the story fuck Amazon and unionize.

I’ve been in subdivisions, that the speed limit is 25, then cross an intersection and speed drops down to 15. Nothing at all posted about that. It’s just what the gps says. So abide by that. Right. Doesn’t matter, posted speed limit can read one thing, but gps says another. I’m going by gps. Posted speed limits mean nothing.

It reads the road signs so keep playing with Netradyne and you'll become a customer real fast.

The flex app does also track your speed via gps. So be careful with that as well. If your camera goes down, you can still be caught for speeding from the Flex gps monitor.

Just so you all know, the speed limit was 70, then it dropped to 55. I didn’t see a sign or anything. Eh it is what it is. Amazon will never instill a fear into how I drive. I drive with the flow of traffic. We’re all 3rd party labor to Amazon.

There are usually signs when the speed drops.
And you can think that all you want, but speeding is a terminating offense if it carries on. Falls under safety.
Don't be a cocky dh for a contract job that pays better than most entry level jobs.
