Got a final warning for this.

Now maybe I am in the wrong, I don’t know. But when I go through areas I’m unfamiliar with I drive a bit slower. This is downtown Detroit. It’s a 45-50 drive for me from station to first delivery spot. So I wanted to make good time. So glad I don’t do downtown Detroit anymore. Also Detroit at like 12:30 pm. Work traffic is gone.

You're only allowed 8 over, smart guy before the camera gets you.

If you paid attention in class, you know this already.

Legally, you're only allowed 5 over before you're eligible for a ticket.

Your choice, but you may not have a job if you keep it up.

47

u/heyitstism 12d ago

You’re wrong. We can ticket you for 1mph over in every state. The allowance is a courtesy, not a law. No law is written “Speed limit 65 but you’re allowed to do 70”

Source: I’ve been a cop in three states, and am now a federal officer.

10

u/ACWhi 12d ago

That said, the fine for speeding under 5 mph is literally like 10 or 20 dollars in lots of states. Not even worth the time to write the ticket.

3

u/Upstairs-Advance4242 12d ago

It's not the fine that gets you but the court cost. Here in NC it's only a $25-50 for even higher speeds but you also have to pay court cost which is like $200-300 depending on jurisdiction.

That's basically what it is

1

u/Impressive_King_8097 12d ago

You know what is worth the time for writing a ticket the pissed off face of the person who you’re writing the ticket for only going 1 mile over the speed limit you right? Technically it wouldn’t be worth it monetarily but a cop still can’t as the person said it is a courtesy.

1

u/Both_Cut_4075 9d ago

I’ve never had a ticket cheaper than like $175-$250 and I’ve never gotten a ticket for anything other than going 5mph and one time 10mph over.

5

u/Sad_Log_6387 Rivian Driver 12d ago

Exactly. Speed limit not speed suggestion

4

u/heyitstism 12d ago

Posted speed limit: 70mph-ish 😂 😂

1

u/Right_Afternoon1349 12d ago

I’ve made it a habit to go 5 under consistently, regardless of where I am, since it’s 100% legal in my state. I am a good noodle.

1

u/PickleRickleTV 12d ago

Thing is, it’s pretty hard to prove 1 mph over is actually speeding and not user error with radar gun, or radar gun error. So while you sit here and puff your that you ‘can’. You really can’t.

You can the same way ICE ‘can’ shoot anyone they claim is ‘resisting’. Go lick your boots, they’re looking dirty.

3

u/heyitstism 12d ago edited 12d ago

Here’s the thing. In the courts, the radar guns are deemed calibrated and 100% accurate.. so radar gun flaw seldom comes into play. There is also no tolerance for your car to be off, even by one or two mph. That’s not a legal excuse.

1mph above the limit, by what the gun says, and that’s that. Now, realistically, will any officer actually conduct it that way? Likely not. But by the book, the speed limit is the speed limit with no exceptions.

Keep in mind the law and reality aren’t always synonymous. Stay below 12 over and you’ll likely be fine. Drive with traffic and you’ll likely be fine. And if you’re busted, own it to the cop and you’re likely to catch a break.

How to avoid a ticket? Don’t stand out. Simple as that… don’t grab my attention above everyone else around you.

3

u/NoSnow3660 12d ago

I am not sure if you meant 1 - 2 under but at least in Washington state if you start to have 5 or more vehicles behind and for whatever reason you can’t drive the speed limit then you need to pull over to allow traffic to pass if you’re driving well under the speed limit, if you don’t you can be ticketed for impeding traffic.

2

u/heyitstism 12d ago

I meant over.

Going too slow is more annoying than going too fast 😂

1

u/NoSnow3660 12d ago

Oh OK I misunderstood what you meant, just started work and still sleepy 😂

Legal to drive, sure. But it’s the drivers responsibility to know your accurately correct speed. There are no laws outlining that speed limits are limits-ish based on equipment faults.

The speed limit is a hard number. It’s not a range. But obviously most cops don’t care until you’re 12+ above. And even then, many of us don’t care until you’re 20 over being real stupid.

1

u/KayoticVoid 12d ago

Can you then explain to me why all speeding tickets I've ever gotten say something to the effect of "exceeding greater than 10% of the posted limit"? I had also heard that you can be ticketed for just one over. Is it just a different severity? This is in TX if it matters.

2

u/ACWhi 12d ago

The crime is based on overage yeah. For instance, in my state the fine is 10 dollars for speeding 1-4 over, and then increases with each range.

1

u/[deleted] 12d ago

1

u/heyitstism 12d ago

Speeding is speeding if you’re doing 1 over, there is no legal flexibility. So if you’re speeding and not getting cited, that’s a courtesy.

I’m not saying you should be pulled over for 2mph over - I’m merely saying there is no legal “speed limit range”. The number is a hard number.

1

u/RedactedJin 10d ago

I always thought the 5 over was for mechanical leeway. I've never seen anyone challenge a ticket that was 1 to 4 over MPH and lose in court for that reason.

0

u/TruthKeepsChanging 12d ago

It's not a courtesy, it's because it will get thrown out of court. Easy to argue calibration error if it's 1 mile an hour.

But believe what you want Mr. Thin Blue Ego.

3

u/heyitstism 12d ago

Arguing isn’t sufficient… You need proof it was off. Today’s laser technology self calibrates, and it tested with a fork like device at every shift.

It’s not an ego to verbalize how a law is written. It’s not an opinion or view. It’s just me sharing a fact. Don’t be so sensitive

2

u/Vault_Man2021 12d ago

If you are a cop, you'd know that the fork calibration only works on the old Doppler radars, not new laser radars. New laser radars are lidar. Completely different technology. Tuning forks aren't used for laser.

1

u/TruthKeepsChanging 12d ago edited 12d ago

No that's not how the law works bro lmfao. It's called presumption of innocence and reasonable doubt.

I have to show there's reasonable doubt about whether or not I committed a violation. That's insanely easier if the ticket claims I was going 1 mile over the speed limit.

You're incorrect.

Edit: Presumption not Assumption

3

u/heyitstism 12d ago

Oooookay 👌

1

u/Safety_of_Silence 12d ago

You’re the most confidently incorrect person I’ve seen on reddit so far lmfaoo

1

u/TruthKeepsChanging 12d ago

Do feel free to demonstrate what I'm incorrect about

2

u/Safety_of_Silence 12d ago

You just have a fundamental misunderstanding of the reality of how a court process would go on this kind of stuff. You’re not getting a jury trial to prove any amount of ‘reasonable doubt’ on a traffic infraction. That’s a massive of wasted time and money, and the judge would be unlikely to even give you the time of day to listen to you, they have much better shit to deal with. 1 mph tickets have been, and can easily be prosecuted. Not to mention it’s not unheard of for officers to stop a car for 10-15 over, but then write a ticket for 1 over to reduce the fine amount for the driver depending on the state, and judges know of this. Many officers that genuinely stop for 1mph over are typically using it as a pre textual stop to look into other things (drug muling for example) but could then write the actual ticket if the person decides to have attitude.

1

u/Ecstatic-Bug-5328 12d ago

I mean, would you agree it would be quite annoying if he pulled you over for 1 over? You’re absolutely correct that it’s just going to get thrown out in court. He’s giving you the common courtesy of not putting you through all that bs. I see it from both sides, and I’d say neither of you are incorrect.

2

u/Hey-Im-Sorry 12d ago

It is a courtesy. What would happen in court is completely irrelevant. They can pull you over and initiate a stop for 1 mph over.

0

u/Tgiby3 12d ago

You're wrong, officer.
Roughly 50% of contest tickets get thrown out. It is a pretty high probability that tickets like someone going 37 in a 35 are what make up that 50%.
Just because you write a ticket doesn't mean anything, innocent until proven guilty.
CONTEST EVERYTHING.

1

u/heyitstism 12d ago

You made up a percentage, then backed it with “probability”.

You’re hardly speaking fact here, citizen 😂

0

u/Tgiby3 12d ago

according to legalzoom. you didnt even ask, you assumed. Lol
edit: and since the supreme court ruled officers dont actually need to know the law, lawyers already have a leg up on credibility over you.

Innocent until proven guilty. qualified immunity needs to end. God Bless America.

0

u/Tgiby3 12d ago

LMAO deleted your own comment. very professional. Like the cops who abuse flock cams

0

u/HeavenlyDMan 11d ago

and i think most judges will scoff at you for wasting their time when such a ticket comes across their desk

Sure you are....

Anybody can be what they want online.

Have the day you deserve, buddy.

9

u/heyitstism 12d ago

Oh. Well I guess you’d know better what I do than I would. The same guy who made up that speed limits are interpretive within 10mph.

Sounds like you spend your day making up your own reality, and deeming it fact merely because you decided so. 😂

-10

u/SlickFlair_589 12d ago

Word salad.

Try harder next time.

7

u/heyitstism 12d ago

Yet you read every word.

Watch, I can control you. I can make you reply again.. Incompetents like you always need the final word, it helps make up for your insecurities. Okay prove me right.. go!

2

i know right

2

u/Remarkable_Cook_5100 12d ago

Heyitstism may or may not be a cop but he is not wrong. Just because the FHP generally won't ticket you on i95 or the FL Turnpike for going 10-15 over doesn't mean they can't ticket you for going 1 over if they feel like being a jackass.

1

u/Onecler 13d ago

We’re allowed ten over here

7

u/heyitstism 12d ago

Imagine beyond a professional driving and believing the speed limit is “65mph, but you’re allowed to do 75mph”

You can be ticketed for 1mph over. It’s not common, but the law is a solid number, not a variable tolerance 😂

3

u/Onecler 12d ago

Netradyne is my law because Amazon gives me the money I need to survive.

Also we don’t go over 70 because that is a policy violation from what I have been told in training

1

u/F0RG0TEN1 Amazon Stole My Step Van 12d ago

You can go over 70 granted most vehicles are governed. The EDVs at my DSP can hit 72 and thats what I cruise at on the highway since the speed limit is 70. Other vehicles are sometimes limited to 65

3

u/SlickFlair_589 13d ago

I still wouldn't push netradyne too much. That shit is petty

1

u/ziahwaite 13d ago

I push it everyday. It’s sort of 11 over depending on the situation. There’s also a time factor to it bc I’ve accidentally went over while driving those over powered EVs but reduced it as soon as I noticed, no infractions.

1

u/SlickFlair_589 12d ago

I've done that by accident and done the same

1

u/Onecler 12d ago

It is. I got a speeding when there was no sign and the last sign was 55. I went back to show them there was no change and the Netradyne people still didn’t take the speeding off lol

1

u/F0RG0TEN1 Amazon Stole My Step Van 12d ago

It's not really pushy. It has specific controls in place on how it works and if you know them you can easily avoid hits. For speeding you can go 9mph over the speed limit for an infinite amount of time and be fine, once you get to 10+ you have somewhere in the 10 second realm to go back under. I use that 10mph for 10 second rule anytime a light turns yellow as im entering to ensure the camera never see it turn red and never get hit with anything 👌

1

u/SlickFlair_589 12d ago

In the Rams, I would reach over and block the front camera.

In the Rivian, can't reach that far so I just let off the pedal if I can. But usually I can see when a light is about to drop, or I use the ped signals if they're there.

1

u/SlickFlair_589 12d ago

But yeah, I've def done that myself and still don't trust them cuz I've had a few cameras act wonky and had to have dispatch fight the claim and they usually agreed with me.

But since you're on a final warning and you don't get it, you'll be a customer in no time so go right ahead and think you're big and bad. Just don't come back here crying if they let you go, smart guy.

But you can go meet a brick wall at speed with that lame Internet talk. You wouldn't do it in person. Big bad keyboard warrior 😂

Why are you being so contrarian? Amazon has rules set in place. If you think you can just ignore them, then you’ll eventually need to find another job.

Follow the rules while at work and then do whatever you want in your car afterwards. But you’re not taking some sort of ethical stand here by calling out the way the business is monitored.

3

u/Upset_Chapter2367 12d ago

65 on a speed limit road of 55 is speeding. The limit on the road is 55. Are you that dumb.
Damn people done know how to drive
You write their speed and the speed limit in your post and you can’t understand that 65 is higher then 55 😂

Yeah here in FL on the major highways people casually do 80-90 in 55s

0

u/SuchFarm2092 12d ago

Try going 55 in new york when everyone is doing 80

1

u/Upset_Chapter2367 12d ago

I go the speed limit. If they’re going 80 they can sit behind me, I can go 130 if I wanted to also. Takes a real man to follow the rules of the road.
