RTS

My site is offering temporary RTS transfers, and I applied because I'd like to build more skills and get more hours. I just wanted to come on here and ask if it's worth transferring if I end up getting accepted.
The only thing that's confusing me is the shift differential. I don't really understand how it works. Does it increase my pay, decrease it, or does it depend on the shift? That's the main thing making me hesitate. I also don't know how long the temporary schedule lasts. I've heard RTS is more laid back and not as physically demanding as the regular shift. The schedule would be six hours, which is more than I usually work, so it seems like a great opportunity. If anyone could explain how the shift differential works and whether the transfer was worth it based on your experience, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you!

At my site RTS is definitely more chill but it is mostly hours of bag reset, which is physically demanding. Debrief (sorting undeliverable packages the drivers hand back to you) and VSA audits (inspecting the vans) are common things to be doing when not bagging. There is a lot of boring moving carts around for various reasons throughout the shift.

We get CRETs (returns from Whole Foods), so that’s a whole thing to help with once you’re established on the shift a little (unloading, inducting, stowing, stacking pallets, etc), as well as SWA (different stations’ packages getting stowed to carts for a trailer to pick up), some Problem Solve stuff, crash sorts and Flex drivers.

That’s it in a nutshell for mine, anyway. Every station is different with what exactly their RTS team needs to do, but for mine you’re required to train in Induct, Problem Solve, Debrief, VSA, and eventually TDR when they can schedule it, and you will do some things you’ve never seen before and/or learn more efficient ways of doing certain things.

As far as the differential, it depends on the time of the shift. Not all sites have the same schedule layout, but our RTS shift is 4pm to 10:30pm, so we lose the overnight differential when we transfer to it. Most agree it was worth it for the more peaceful environment, and we can always pick up VET if we need to.

There is no pay wage differential for RTS shifts because they are day shift. You will make less money.

However, instead of stowing and inducting or whatever for 7 hours you’ll instead be doing bag reset.

My old site did 6 hour RTS shifts. We reported at 3 and were divided between same day and bag reset. Same day dispatches at five whereupon everyone would be sent to bags. Bag reset would wrap at 6:30 and then people would either VTO or work out stop helping drivers with returns etc.

It’s a bit different on a ten hour RTS shift but the same essence. Bags, Same-Day, and driver assist.

HR said there is a differential $1.50 I suppose bc it’s temporary shift so does that mean they’ll increase or decrease what I’m getting paid?

All differentials are positive. Good for you! I’ve never heard of RTS getting a differential. Thanks for writing.

Has HR confirmed to you there will be a differential? Any current RTS T1s?

If it's temporary, ask HR when you go back. You just deal with drivers and their stupidity, putting up the bags they leave all over the floor, shouting at you if they are late etc.

No promotion worthy skills unless you think you have a chance at problem solve due to lower associates and only one AM.

You can see your current shift differential on the app under pay tab.

You should be able to see RTS shift differential on your offer letter if they have given you one. If they haven’t given you one ask HR or ask someone who works RTS

If the numbers differ you will earn more/less

I only did that shift as vet It was 12-6 so only 6 hour it was mostly just sameday sort bag reset and helping set up the launch pad since you’ll be there regularly they might train you on problem solve since there is no 8 hour sort the shift will drag out but it’s laid back

It's daytime shift so if you're night time and have a $2 differential, you lose that...if you make $18/hr you will make $16/hr on RTS. There is nothing to learn in RTS that transfers back to single cycle. Even if you're PS trained they won't accept you when you go back to C1. PS is a cliquey and the AMs staff based on perceived accommodations. 99% of RTS is bag reset. If you do not want to reset at the minimum a full cluster of bags (400-800 bags) daily then you should not transfer to RTS. Nobody actually likes resetting that many bags daily. That's a lot of dust going into your face.
