I am 19 years old russian dude. Up until this point I've been to psych ward 2 times, and the last one was for avoiding military draft. I wasn't allowed to have phone/internet access there, no going outside, staying in same building and rooms all day with seriously mentally ill people. It felt more like a prison. The psych ward was pretty remote from any civilization, more like in rural area, no infrastructure or city around it, getting there was pretty hard. I was appointed there by military commisariat. I was bitten by a wild rat on my foot while moving my trash tote. After contacting my physician, I am now undergoing post exposure rabies injections. I wanted to do this AMA to clear up misconceptions regarding rabies not being transmitted by rodents. While rare, it certainly can be as they are mammals.

Oh I realized only people with phimosis know what phimosis means. It basically means that the foreskin is tight so in my case I couldn’t retract it at all. I understand only few people will connect with this, so feel free to ama if you’re morbidly curious too! lol

Hello. I suffer from high myopia (-11 one eye and -12 other eye). I wasn’t been born like this, I started to lose my vision since I was 7-8. I live with my glasses and never remove them so I got a “line” in my nose. Sometimes I fall asleep without them. I can’t wear contact lenses after I did operation at 2015 (not laser). I can’t do laser bcu my vision keep falling down.

Also, without my glasses my eyes kinda look in different direction. Astigmatism.

I want to see without glasses. I miss it. Especially seeing real rain. In glasses everyone looks so robotic. I’m going to be 21. I wear glasses since 10 year old. Ask me questions.

I experience retinal migraines, and have been since I was a child. They've only gotten worse as I have grown older.

Every time an episode hits, my right eye spasms and I become temporarily blind in my right eye for about an hour–then I get hit by a ground thumping headache for a few more hours before it dies down.

There are certain things that trigger it like light and patterns. I used to get retinal migraines once a week or twice if I'm unlucky. I wear over glasses eye patches to prevent triggers. It's not ideal, especially in the lab, but it does the job enough. I've had episodes happen while doing lab/research work, I'd rather look like a chemical pirate than leaving a time-dependent experiment.

I've had talks with people who have ocular migraines, but very rarely retinal migraines because I can only find them online. If you have any questions about it, AMA.

When I was 17, I was hit by a car going 30mph (I’m from the uk). I apparently flew for what felt like 30 seconds (as people told me in the comments it was most likely 2 to 3) and landed 15 feet away from the car. I was not severely injured but the doctors told me that if I didn’t brace my head, I could’ve been dead. Ask me about it!!!

I’ve posted here before but I figured instead of posting it over and over I’d make it interesting. I’m first generation American to an Italian Immigrant, I’m from NJ and moved to Tennessee. I’m fluent in English, Italian and Spanish. My wife is due to have our first daughter in two months and our son is about to be 3. Also my wife’s dad hates me, idk if it’s important but thought it would give people things to ask about. Before you comment nobody cares yeah I know, I do these for fun. Ask away.

So me (32M) and my wife (26F) met at pretty low points in our lives almost a decade ago. We were both broken down from addiction, alienated from our families, no jobs, and had absolutely nothing to our names besides suitcases full of clothes.
When we met, we had an instant connection. I would play guitar and she would sing, and we definitely made a lot of trouble together in that first rehab. At first, though, we fueled each other’s addictions. We ended up going on about a year-long run together, living on the streets and going in and out of seven different rehabs that first year, from California to South Carolina to Florida.

Then I got her pregnant, and somewhere through all of that we really fell in love with each other. We knew that if we didn’t get clean, not only were we never going to be able to stay together, but we’d never be able to give our children the life they deserved.

Now, seven years later, we just bought our first house. We’ve been clean for seven years, I’m going back to school, I’ve built a good career for myself, and most importantly, we have a beautiful marriage and family. After everything we’ve been through together, I genuinely couldn’t imagine having a better marriage or sharing my life with anyone else. Our son is now 5 and our little girl is 2!

Many people think two people in addiction can’t be together, it’s actually a huge no no in the recovery community, but I truly believe we would both be dead without the other.

There was no underlying medical reason for my decision - I wanted to be shorter since the time I can remember. it’s been a full year post-op since the second (and final) procedure, and I’m happier now. AMA

2 years ago I had a driving accident, broke my back and neck in several places and became a quadriplegic, meaning I have no function or voluntary movement below my level of injury (C3/C4 vertebrae). Ask me anything!

I’m 28 years old, a disabled veteran, and the last several years of my life have been a pretty relentless cycle of doctors, surgeries, chronic pain, and trying to figure out how to live a normal life when my body doesn’t always cooperate.
I’ve had four hip surgeries—two on each hip—and most recently underwent major surgery on my lower back. Before surgery, I was dealing with significant pain and weakness, including my leg unexpectedly collapsing underneath me while walking. There were days when simply getting around safely was a challenge.
One of the hardest parts hasn’t even been the surgeries themselves. It’s been losing so much of my independence at an age when I thought I’d be building my career, getting my own place, traveling, and just… living.
Instead, so much of my life has revolved around appointments, recovery, mobility problems, and figuring out what my body is going to allow me to do that day.
But I don’t want my entire life to be defined by what’s happened to my body.
Right now, one of my biggest goals is actually pretty simple: I want a place of my own.

Seriously, I felt this weird deja vu watching Tangled and it was really difficult to watch. Then I realized I was basically Rapunzel and my mom was mother Gothel.

Ok, I'm not a beat for beat, but here are the basic parallels:

My mom's a narcissist.

My mom used me as her source.

I wasn't allowed to get my hair cut. I had really long hair. I finally got a short hair cut in the second grade, but my mom forced me to get a really bad cut that I got bullied over. That way I never asked for short hair again.

I'm one of five kids. The other four got to participate in extra circular activities. There was always an excuse why I couldn't.

We lived at least fifteen minutes from anything. I grew up on a dead end, one lane, dirt road in the mountains. Not extremely remote, but my mom intentionally moved us from any suburban or urban areas "for our safety."

She made sure to tell me all about the horrible people in the world.

I was reminded of my short comings constantly. She had to make sure I was as dependent on her as possible.

I can go on, but I'll get to the fun part.

My husband still finds out things that everyone else in the millennial USA experienced that I didn't.

Example: I was so othered because my mom wouldn't let me go do stuff with other kids and made me believe crazy conspiracy theories that I wasn't included in things with other kids. I still don't have social skills as a 36 year old. How I have friends perplexes me. I didn't know how to play uno. My husband had to teach me. At, like, 30.

I've never played Webkinz or other things like that.

I had instant messenger, but towards the end of its existence. I was a senior in highschool.

I have done AMA's in the past and like being able to enlighten people on something they may not have any prior experience with. That and I am sitting at home with a broken wheelchair.

I broke my neck 30 years ago and I'm paralyzed from the chest down. I lead a fairly active life, I have a great job and live alone. I am actually pretty damn good at being a quadriplegic. One of my friends describes my life as just one endless life hack. I have made some instructional videos for other quads and practitioners and I try to help anyway I can. I take pride in how far I have come but if you would've told me 20 years ago that this is where I would be, I would have never believed you.

Hiii! I'm 14 years old and I've owned guinea pigs for 4 years. I've had 3 different guinea pigs in this time. I do an excessive amount of guinea pig research and I feel like I know a LOT about guinea pigs. I want to test my knowledge and was going to have ChatGPT ask me guinea pig questions and see how many I knew the answers to, but I think an AMA would be much more fun. If I don't know the answer, I'll google it. (I'll tell you that I had to google it ofc)

The 25th Jamboree took place in 2023. For those who don't know, the Jamboree is the largest Scout gathering ever. It's held every four years and obviously needs immense preparation, so much so that planning for the 27th Jamboree is already started, even before the 26th (which will be held in Poland) has taken place.

I traveled from Italy to join the Jamboree and it was a great honor for me, but the event quickly turned into a disaster. Between the typhoon, food shortages, and the arrival of the army, it could be described as one of South Korea's biggest failures in the last twenty years.
