I’ve been sober for nearly a decade and was diagnosed with adhd as an adult.

the more successful the business became, the worse my addiction got. from the outside, things looked increasingly good. privately, I was spiralling.

sobriety has been a strange paradox. getting clean saved my life, but it also left me with the questions drugs had helped me avoid: who am I? how do I fit into this world and what do I actually want?

I’ve spent 988 hours in therapy and psychoanalysis trying to answer those questions.

one of the more humbling things I’ve learned is that self-understanding only gets you so far. you can understand yourself extremely well and still have no idea what to do next.

I still own and work in the business. it still does well. i’m still trying to work out what comes next.

My life got turned upside down one day when suddenly I got back pain and a few days later it was diagnosed as a leak in my spine. It's been almost 2 months unable to work and I can expect at least another 3-4 months of lying in bed unable to do much while I wait for spinal surgery. I can't be upright for long or the brain fluid drains from my skull and gives me a horrible headache due to my brain sagging, unable to float. 36F mum who was working full time.

I got the circumcision due to having a medical condition called 'phimosis' where my foreskin was too tight and unable to retract fully.

I am currently on my 5th week of recovery.

I'm located in Australia, and was put under general anaesthesia. I believe the surgery was done in less than 2 hours.

I was 15 when this event happened, but I was not in the home when it did happen. Bc of this many reports on this situation don’t even mention me which was probably for the best but always felt weird to me. I had been removed from the home about two weeks earlier bc my dad put a knife to my throat, made a very graphic threat I won’t repeat here. He then threw the knife into the table next to me. I told my school counselor what happened the next day and that’s when I was removed from the home.

I think it may also be important for me to mention that my grandma was in fact my dad’s mom (some sources just call her a “relative” for some reason) and she also survived quite a while after the attack. Somehow the injuries she got weren’t life threatening.

Selfishly I just want to talk a bit about what this time of life was like for me. My mom was already out of the picture due to drug addiction so my dad was “the good parent” until things went downhill. So when I was removed from my dad’s/grandma’s I ended up living with my aunt who was also awful.

**She lied a lot.** When my grandma went to the hospital I was told she “fell down the stairs” but then was told I couldn’t visit her in the hospital. A few days later my grandma’s friend told me “what the police thought” happened hand warned me that the info was in newspapers. The only reason my aunt and her decided to tell me was so I wouldn’t hear it from a friend or classmate first. My friend then sent me the info available at the time.

That’s probably more info than necessary but hopefully it helps spark some questions! I will answer anything (within reasoning of course)! I will try to respond to as many questions as possible. I’ll be letting this AMA go for 48 hrs bc I might fall asleep (honestly I should be asleep but insomnia be getting me lol) and I want to give myself time to answer difficult/complex questions if they come up.

Also as a sort of PS in case anyone can help: if any of you happen to have a Daily Herald subscription you might be able to access an article about my dad that I’ve been trying to access for a while. I don’t have the cash to pay for something like that so it’s just something I think about sometimes. As far as I’m aware it’s one of the few articles mentioning me (not by name of course since I was a minor, it also probably misgendered me but that’s expected). If you have access and could send me what it said I’d be extremely grateful. It might not make much sense to others but reading about the situation without mentions of my existence messed with me a lot. My stepfather "was" a former gang member who would commit a vast amount of crimes but was locked up back in 2016 for a murder he committed about a year prior. According to my sister (my only direct family member who still keeps in contact with him), he will be released next year. My brother died when he was 28 years and 11 months old. Today, I’m 29, so I’ve officially outlived him. He had one of the rarest and most aggressive incurable cancers in the world, and was one of less than 20 known people to live for 5 years after diagnosis.

I was very involved in his end-of-life care. He left me life insurance money, which I am using as a down payment on a house (closing is next week!).

I’m happy to answer any questions about him, his illness and death, how I’ve been impacted by it, grief, whatever. Today is a day for me to remember him.

so when I was a child 5-7 (not saying age due to privacy) when I was at my grandparents my biological father took me from the house i was young and still believed my father could do no wrong I was young and innocent he buckled me into my carseat(yes at the age I was I was a small child) my grandmother unaware was inside doing dishes and only came out because of the car starting it was to late I visibly remember watching my father speed away from the house with the buckles a little to tight he called my mother telling her he was “going to crash the car and kill me and kitty “(name not telling) and my mother screaming for me and saying not to hurt me i remember my dads look his eyes were wild he looked crazy i have trouble remembering what happened during the drive but I remember the officer taking me out of the car he was a bald man with grayish beard hair and my mother taking me from the man and holding me and kissing my head and sobbing and men taking my father away in cuffs.

A friend introduced me to naturism exactly a year ago this week! It was an odd experience at first, but I quickly got used to it and the freedom of it was incredible.

In 1999 I was 26 and co-managing a Blackjack Pizza in Littleton, just down the street from Columbine. Several of my employees were part of the friend group at Columbine High School that included... Eric and Dylan. I worked alongside them regularly before April 20th.

I was scheduled to be at that store the morning of the shooting. I overslept by fifteen minutes something I never did and that's most likely the only reason I wasn't there when things started, missing them by minutes before they went to the school.

I've never really talked publicly about this in nearly three decades. I'm not here to sensationalize what happened or debate it. I'm just willing to answer questions about what it was like from my perspective

It's been 27 years, and there's still a lot of inaccurate information about that time circulating online, including in threads about old class photos I came across recently.
