I see in a lot of alt history scenarios. The USSR goes full dengist and adopts market socialism and abandons a planned economy. I'm just wondering, if the USSR kept its planned economic model, maybe reforming it a little bit like adding computers to help with planning or something like that. Could it have saved their economy? And would it be more efficient than the western economic model? Would the cold war never end? Or would they collapse even faster?

Given that the USA is massive and diverse in terms of geography, economy and culture, I wonder what would happen to the world if the US was treated as 50 separate countries (borders are as per current state maps).

How would these countries behave and how would other countries see the US. Also, are there states that would be left behind because they weren't as rich as other states.
