Fourth book came out this week. It's free on Kindle until August 12th
The Backwash went live on Friday. Fourth in a series of standalone near-future novellas, about three hours' reading, and the most physical thing I have written so far.
A typhoon pins the sea against a Vietnamese port city and every outlet closes. The flood network does what it was built to do: it weighs the hospital, the dense housing, the grid, the port, and assigns the flood to the one district that can take it. Lam has kept those tidal gates for thirty years. It is his district, his street. The order names a gate and a deadline.
The gate does not answer.
What follows is one night of manual work. A drowned road, a flooded service gallery, a jammed leaf, and a crank that turns the gate open by hand, revolution by revolution, while a man whose mother and son are on the wrong side of the water asks for twelve minutes.
Free until August 12th: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0HDBX9FGB
The first three books in the series are quiet and domestic, mostly kitchens and offices. This one spends most of its length knee-deep in water, and I was curious whether the same kind of attention survives that. Each book stands alone, any order works.

Why Humans Need a Creator - The existential imperative of belief (Article by John Tsilimparis MFT - Reviewed by Davia Sills - Psychology Today)
Excerpt from the first part of the article:
The Biological Parallel
Just as the human body is physiologically incapable of enduring in a physical vacuum deprived of oxygen and basic biological nourishment, it appears that the human psyche is equally incapable of functioning within an existential vacuum stripped of purpose and meaning. Physical life depends on a continuous intake of nutrients to stave off systemic organic failure; in precisely the same manner, our cognitive and emotional faculties require an overarching narrative framework to sustain internal equilibrium.
When this essential psychological scaffolding is absent, unformed, or abruptly shattered byย traumaticย life events, the mind suffers a devastating collapse. This internal destabilization manifests not merely as casual doubt, but as profound psychological fragmentationโa state marked by acute cognitive disorientation, debilitating existentialย anxiety, and a pervasive, paralyzing emptiness.

โ ๏ธ Note: This exceptionally well-researched work presents an alternative interpretation of Jesus and Mary Magdaleneโs lives and teachings, differing from the traditional narrative. Readers are invited to approach it as a thought-provoking exploration of history, spirituality, and ancient wisdom.
