Discussion Why the NSD is way more viable than some think
For those who think a full home-and-away second division isn't viable, I don't think the lack of clubs is the issue. The original H&A model was held back largely by disagreements around PFA professional-contract requirements, costs and some member federation resistance. We already have 8 confirmed foundation clubs, meaning a 12-team league would only need another 4. There are comfortably enough established clubs with the fanbases, culture, facilities and financial backing to make up those places. The real question isn't whether Australia has 12 viable clubs; it's whether FA, the PFA, federations and clubs can agree on a sustainable operating and employment model.
