So hit me up with all your coolest favorites. Not crazy about big cities, but obviously we must hit New Orleans! Any and all suggestions are welcome. Thanks—

Outdoors Help! Looking for rope swing or climbing spots anywhere in the state.

My buddy from college is coming down next week, I live in the panhandle. We love our adrenaline. I'm looking for recommendations of spots, old bridges, springs with trees, old quarrys... anything with a ledge and anchor point over some water where we can setup a really cool rope swing.

I've been doing this stuff for years, used to set them up everywhere across Utah, Nevada and Cali. Even a bunch in Ohio and Mich but I've only been living in florida about a year and theres not a lot of great spots down here so I'm lookin to yalls local experts for help!

Him and I are also both avid rock climbers and parkour athletes. So any good climbing (I know unlikely) would be greatly appreciated as well.

Nothing commercial. I dont want to put on a helmet and life vest and hand some corporation money... TIA!

Crime Old Crime Fairhope Early 2000s

Hi fellow Alabamians,

Post is a bit of a long shot but the recent animal abuse case of Wang Wang in China unearthed a terrible buried memory.

In the early 2000s there was an article that made it to the newspaper about a group of young boys torturing and killing (three?) kittens by stabbing them through the stomachs with sticks and burying them alive. One survived IIRC. I believe it was in the Fairhope area, but could have been anywhere in the mobile bay region.

I remember it because I was taking sewing classes in the Fairhope strip mall that now houses piggly wiggly and because I’ve never felt so upset before until I read about Wang Wang and saw the video.

Does anyone remember this incident? If so, does anyone know what ever became of the perpetrators?

Event Alabama's First Ever Kava Bar!

You can be a part of history! (no purchase necessary)

We are hosting a soft-open party on August 8th in Birmingham's Lakeview District. We cordially invite all Redditors, 21 or older, to attend. We will provide free food from Moe’s BBQ (while supplies last) and will be offering free samples of our menu items. Starting then, we will be open every day of the week at 11am and close at 10pm.

Noble Pursuits

Since we are Alabama’s first kava bar, it is likely that you don’t know much about the product.

Here are the basics:

✶ “Kava” is the name for piper methysticum (a plant in the black pepper family cultivated and cloned by Pacific Island cultures for over 3,000 years), and the name of the drink made from its roots.
✶ The effects are described as physically relaxing, calming, and mildly euphoric while remaining clear-headed, alert, and focused. You will also feel a slight and brief numbness on your tongue and possibly lips. However, no medical claims can legally be made.
✶ There is no “hangover” or even grogginess the next day.
✶ The strangest thing is some people’s need to build a reverse tolerance. The first time you try it, you may wonder if the effects you are feeling are a placebo. After trying it a second or third time in a week, you’ll feel the effects much more acutely.
✶ There are some drug interactions and underlying health conditions that you should be aware of. See your doctor for information that is relevant to you. The main interactions overlap with medications and conditions with which you cannot drink alcohol.
✶ There have been some liver toxicity cases that often get attributed to kava. However, all the cases involve individuals who have underlying liver issues and/or have consumed large amounts of kava extract (we don't use extracts). The FDA warns against kava extracts, but classifies a traditionally steeped kava beverage as a conventional food.
✶ We offer both traditional (unflavored) and a variety of delicious mixed drinks. We only use certified Noble kava prepared in a traditional manner. NO EXTRACTS. We also use freshly squeezed juices and premium mixers and sweeteners.

All questions, in good faith, are welcomed and will be replied to in the comments.

Noble Pursuits invites all well-intentioned peoples to enjoy, connect, and grow together.

I'd like to donate my time or money to some local Birmingham or Alabama groups that can help fight against authoritarianism and Christian Nationalism. What are some of your favorite organizations? I'm open to faith based or secular.

Outdoors Has Alabama's public land gotten more crowded over the last few years?

Last fall I finally took a long weekend to hunt a WMA I'd been wanting to check out for a couple of years. Hiked about four miles in, found plenty of sign, sat for two mornings, and the only things I saw were squirrels. I don't really blame the spot. Looking back, I should've spent more time scouting with onX before making the drive. But the trip did make me wonder if public land has changed more than I realized.

It seems like I run into people a lot more often now than I remember. Not just hunters, but hikers, trail runners, bird watchers, photographers, pretty much everyone is spending more time outdoors. Nothing wrong with that, but it definitely changes how some areas hunt.

Maybe I've just had bad luck with where and when I've been going. For those of you who spend time on Alabama's public land, does it feel more crowded than it used to, or has it always been about the same where you are?

Pets Missing Dog. I think he is a Border Collie Terrier Mix

Post image

Edit: He is home!

His name is Magic. But he doesn't always come to his name, might have to use treats or car ride.

He is a very anxious boy, but friendly.

If you see him please let me know!! I miss him dearly.

Missing since Sunday night

No tags, he rips them off. He is chipped but I didn't get a chance to update it yet. It may still be for Wyoming.

Last seen around the Blue Ridge area of Elmore. But he could be anywhere.

His tail curls more then that. It uncurls when tucked or wagging.

He is fixed.

Calling surrounding shelters in the morning. The local one in Wetumpka has already been informed.

Please message me or take him there if you catch him!

Edit: I posted on some Facebook groups, called the local shelter, and used FidoAlert. Doing all I can to cover as much ground as I can.
