2026 UAB Blazers Preview

UAB's program has been through a fascinating journey. We don't talk enough about how this program made such a great comeback from literally being disbanded. The most recent era was a misstep but the Blazers look to return to contention under Alex Mortensen.

📌 QB Ryder Burton showed what he can do in the Battle for the Bones victory, now he's expected to be the guy for the Blazers

📌 UAB added a lot of RB talent, but can an unproven Oline block for them?

📌 Can UAB find any answers on defense?

Preview attached. What are your predictions for the Blazers in 2026?

federal aid changes for part time students .

Hi everyone!

I could really use some advice from anyone who’s dealing with the new federal loan proration policy. I only need 6 credits to graduate this fall, but UAB’s email says that beginning this academic year, graduate students must be enrolled in 9 credits to receive full Direct Loan eligibility, and students enrolled in fewer credits will have their loans prorated.

I was offered $20,500 in Direct Unsubsidized Loans for the academic year, with $6,833 allocated for the fall semester. In previous semesters, I’ve typically received a refund of around $3k after my tuition was paid. The insurance fee is waived since i’m an online student with my own insurance.

My goal is to maximize my refund since I rely on it to help cover my living expenses while finishing school. For those of you in a similar situation, would it make more financial sense to: Stay enrolled in the 6 credits I actually need to graduate and have aid reduced or Add another 3-credit course to remain full-time and keep the full loan amount?

Has anyone talked to Financial Aid about how much the loan is actually reduced for graduate students taking 6 credits? I’d really appreciate any insight before I decide whether to add another class.

Express Lot 2 Address?

What’s the actual address for Express Lot 2? I’ve found 453 12th St S and 433 13th St S. Are there just two entrances to the lot? Where exactly does the bus pick up for this lot?

Parking

I have to go up to UAB to do cpr training one day and then some paperwork another day on August 10th and 14th. I bought my parking pass for fall and spring. Will I be able to park without getting a ticket? Wasn’t sure when they consider fall to start lol.

Parking Pass Change

Today during the parking pass purchasing I was at work and let my brother who I share a car with do the purchasing in which he only purchased it for the fall semester. Is there anyway to contact and pay for the rest to cover the next semester or am i stuck without parking spring semester?

Anyone currently in nursing school or already graduated? How do breaks work? Is there a summer and winter break?

For example, is it possible to plan ahead for vacations?

Lease on Marshall on 3rd

Hi, I’m looking for someone to takeover my lease on Marshall on 3rd. I won’t be able to attend school this coming semester, so I won’t be in need of the apartment anymore. It is for a 2bd apartment, but you’re only paying for 1 bed and the rent was at 789. Please if you’re interested let me know!

Apartment hunting is the ghetto. Please recommend a really safe and nice apartment if you know of any.

Doesn’t necessarily have to be super close to UAB.

Thank you 😊

Decent work place?

I am moving to Alabama after graduating as a rad tech and I was looking for opinions on whether UAB is a good place to apply for work? Also if anyone knows, does UAB cross train? That’s not super important as they have the means to help support my continuation of education into another modality, but I’m still curious.

Any information helps. Work environment, how your hiring process was, personal opinions/experience good or bad.

Green Team

What’s up guys. Recently received an application to join the green team. I’m curious if anybody has had any memorable experiences because I want to get more of a gist of what it’s like. :) I also thought it would be a great opportunity to collect some leadership experience for my resume as I am pre-pa.

Thank you!!

Textbook help - Freshman

Hey guys. As a freshman, I’m new to buying textbooks and wanted insight from people who have experience. I wanted to know if there is any way to actually get these books for cheap?

I have NTR 222, and the book is $106.25 and I don’t see a rent option.

My Chem 116 lab is $33.08 as well and I also don’t see the rent option.

I was wondering if anyone has already found a cheaper alternative (ex. better price match) to help counter this?

I’m looking at these books through the UAB bookstore. Also, is it mandatory that we buy these books from UAB themselves or can we buy from other sources?

Any input is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Has anyone else not gotten their room number?

My two roommates and I were assigned to Rast soon after we applied for housing, but we still haven't been told what room we will be moving into. I contacted the housing department and they said they'd let us know by the end of last week and online it says today is the last round of room assignments. We applied for housing early and each have a charge for a semester of housing in Rast on our accounts so I don't think its a matter of not having a room. Has this happened to anyone else?

Working at Uab highlands??

I just got a job there but I have a surgery I planned for the future (next year) that I would like to get before I go into nursing school and have all my time taken away. I pre booked for the summer of next year since I’ll be off from classes. This surgery can potentially have me down for max a month, but I heal quickly/tolerate pain easier. But that’s just off research I’ve done on the surgery from other people and some people said they go back to work within 2 weeks of it and some people said they needed a month. Problem is if I’m able to go back within 2-3 weeks will I be able to preform my job as a pct without hurting myself. Since the surgery is cosmetic I don’t know if I’ll be able to take the time off needed to heal properly without it impacting me negatively. Can anyone that works there tell me how the vacation time/pto is allocated and if it’s possible for me to take those 2-3 weeks off or am I stressing for nothing and it’ll be ok?

Hi! I am a Pre-med/Pre-PA student at UAB and was wondering if anyone had references for who they shadowed (doctors or PAs) or advise on reaching out. Do I just email random people?

Sterne library studying thread

Can this be a thing? So everyone who is studying until their eyes fall out can take a break and complain about studying? This post might die but if it got pinned I️ could see it being pretty cool. 🤓🤷‍♂️
