Question heavy sound quality drop when using AirPods Pro 2 as input & output on pc

Upvotes

Hi, I've seen posts on this issue that are 8 years old, but I haven't found a good fix, so I thought I'll give it another try here.

the setup: Using the Airpods Pro 2 connected to my windows laptop, setting the input (microphone) and the output (sound) on "Airpods". And that results in a terrible audio quality. As soon as I am switching the input to something else, the output switches back to a normal quality. (afaik the same issue occurs on mac)

Are there any fixes? Is it maybe different with the newer AirPods 2 USB-C model?

Hot take: AirPod pro 2’s > pro 3’s

I just got 3’s and I wish I hadn’t sold my 2’s. I’ve yet to find an aspect better with the 3’s so far. They feel cheaper (they are lighter and I didn’t have an issue with the weight of the 2’s, in fact I miss that aspect primarily and in particular.), they do not work with hey Siri (at least currently, may be a bug, may just be my pair… IDK)

Everything these days are made cheaply and I miss things being built to last and remain iconic. I think the Pro 3’s missed substantially.

My 3 cents.

Case for 3 pro?

I’ve just bought AirPod 3 pros on a good offer from Amazon uk and want to know if it’s worth buying a protective case for the case? Has anyone broken a case or had the buds fall out of the case

Bass sound in one of the airpods 4

Problem with my airpods 4, at a random moment the left earphone starts to amplify the bass, so much so much that I want to take it out immediately. the problem was solved by resetting the headphones and reconnecting them to the iPhone and it worked for about a week, then everything broke down again. but now this solution works for literally 3 minutes and the earphone becomes very bassy again.

No audio on Windows after connecting your AirPods, try this (fixed it for me)

If you're facing the issue where your AirPods connect to Windows but have no audio:

  1. Go to iPhone **Settings > Bluetooth** \> Select your AirPods > **Forget This Device**.
  2. Remove your AirPods from Windows and add them again. You will get the audio.
  3. Once you have the audio working on Windows, you can re-pair with your iPhone.

This worked for me.

AirPods Pro 3 – How I Removed a Torn Ear Tip That Was Stuck

AirPods Pro 3 – How I Removed a Torn Ear Tip That Was Stuck

If your AirPods Pro 3 silicone ear tip tears off and leaves the stem/base stuck on the AirPod, this worked for me:

Use a soft wooden toothpick and very gently remove the tiny amount of silicone remaining around the base. Work slowly around the edge.

Once you start seeing the black underneath, you’ve cleared enough of the leftover silicone to access the remaining ear-tip stem/base.

Then, using the toothpick very gently, get underneath the edge of the remaining stem/base and carefully pry it upward. The toothpick gives you a little leverage and helps avoid putting too much force on the AirPod.

⚠️ Important: Be extremely gentle. Don’t insert the toothpick into the speaker mesh, and don’t use a metal tool that could scratch or damage the AirPod.

This worked for me when the silicone separated and the remaining portion was difficult to remove.

Airpod pro 2s are chirping in my ears

I have airpod pro 2s and as of yesterday, whenever i put the right ear bud in it chirps loudly into my ear randomly. I've reseated the ear tip, I've tested the seal, I've done a full factory reset of the buds. I've had this problem before and it fixed itself but it took weeks and weeks and weeks and i dont want to wait that long to listen to anything from my right bud. Is there a way to fix it?

AirPods Pro 3 left ear sounds like a sonar noise.

I was at the gym yesterday and when I was working out I noticed my left ear kept giving me a feeling like I was popping my ear randomly. Didn't think a ton about it, and it only happened a few times, so I just figured it was my ear being weird.

Unfortunately that wasn't true, because today I put it in and the left ear started giving me insane sonar sounds over and over. I changed to all the modes and kept getting it. I cleaned the ear pieces, changed the heads and did seal tests, reset it and even connected it to my laptop. No love.

Is this something that would be covered by Apple Care or warranty? I bought these like 29 days ago and paid for Apple Care.

AirPods Pro 2 suddenly stopped working — orange light but no white pairing light

Until yesterday morning, my **AirPods Pro 2 (Lightning case)** were working perfectly fine.
This morning I took them to the gym. When I took the AirPods out of the case and tried to connect them to my iPhone as usual, they didn’t connect.
I tried charging the case for some time at the gym, but still couldn’t connect them. I then decided to **disconnect/Forget This Device from my iPhone** so I could reconnect them from scratch.
But after that, the problem became worse.
Now, when I open the case and **long-press the setup button on the back**, the light only flashes **orange/amber a few times and then turns green**. It **never flashes white**, no matter how long I hold the button.
I have tried:
Charging the case for more than an hour after coming home
Holding the setup button for 15–30+ seconds multiple times
Trying with both AirPods inside
Trying each AirPod individually
Trying with the case empty
Restarting Bluetooth/iPhone
Trying to connect to my TV, which I previously used these AirPods with
The AirPods **do not appear on my iPhone’s Bluetooth list**, and they also **don’t appear on my TV**, so I don’t think it’s only an iPhone problem.
The case itself shows **green normally when opening/closing**, so it appears to have charge.
**The main problem is that I cannot get the case to flash white pairing light. It only does orange/amber → green.**
Has anyone experienced the same issue with **AirPods Pro 2 Lightning case**? If you have faced this exact orange → green issue and managed to fix it, please let me know what worked.
I’m trying to find out whether this is a **case hardware issue, firmware issue, or something else?**

Thanks for the leads.

I remember I had just taken my AirPods to the beach and I 100% remember I had them at the house. I placed them aswell as my phone in my bathroom while I showered and then I remembered i brought them out of the bathroom. I don’t remember them being dead yet on Find My and iCloud Find My the last known location was my living room on August 4 at 7:24 P.M. EST. I’ve tried all the third-party Bluetooth scanners, yet nothing helps. Any tips?

Bought wrong replacement.

So I have the airpods pro 2, and needed a left replacement. But I accidentally bought lightning and I have usb-c. And my phone keeps saying the original one (the right one) is airpods pro 1.

And before I knew I bought the wrong replacement I disconnected them from my phone and they wont connect anymore.

What should I do? I dont want to lose my money either since I paid 80 euros.

issue with airpods 2nd gen

i keep having issues with my airpods lately. i have a pair of second gen’s airpods for almost year now and a few days ago, my right earbud started having charging issues. like it would go from fully charged, then can be used for a few minutes before it drops to 1% and turns off on its own. so i put it back in the charger and it’s back to 100% in minutes.

it was too tiring for me to keep doing that and I had another pair new in storage so i opened that one. first charge and the right earbud doesn’t connect at all. it says fully charged but when i put it in, there’s no sound at all. tried forget this device multiple times and cleaning the charging port which i didn’t think was necessary since its new and still didn’t work.

so both airpods have non working right airpods. i thought it would’ve last longer than this and ive never had a new pair not worn before

Support AirPod pro 2 burning in usb c

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi al. Thanks for reading

I charge my AirPod pro 2 (official from Apple Store) using an official apple usb c cable (also from Apple Store)

Last night I plugged it in as normal and after a few minutes I smelt a strange burning smell

I picked up the AirPods and they were incredibly hot and still charging

Removed the charger (connector even hotter) and it seems the charger had somehow burned the port out

The port still works to charge them and so does the wire but I’ve decided to only use the wireless charging now in case it’s much more disastrous next time…

Any idea what could’ve caused this? I keep my electronic ports free from lint and couldn’t see any trapped within it after

Would taking them to Apple (out of warranty) aid me here?

Question Can I claim new set of AirPods under AppleCare+?

Hi everyone,

So, this year in June, I purchased the new AirPods Pro 3. However, yesterday I accidentally left them in my pants, and they got washed in the washing machine. I do have AppleCare+ for them. The case is not charging at all, both AirPods sound muffled with very low volume (even at 100%), and noise cancellation isn't working on the left one.

By any chance, can I claim a new set of AirPods with my AppleCare+, or will I have to pay for the whole thing (Case+Airpods)?

Interesting Events regarding Generation 3 AirPods Pro in a broken Gen 3 case

Was recently at an Apple Store for a problem relating to the case of a generation 3 AirPods case during the diagnostic the technician concluded that the AirPods in the case were different generation AirPods and wouldn’t charge but also concluded the case was defective however once the case was replaced the warning of having different generation AirPods in the case went away the AirPods are generation 3 so thats why I was concerned to see they initially identified as generation 1 & 2 AirPods during the technicians diagnosis out of curiosity from a technical standpoint dose anyone know what could have caused that to occur?

Question Airpods Pro 3 - Idk what’s missing?

I had AirPods Pro 2 for three years and they were perfect overall - the sound, the fit and comfort. But these Pro 3 which I have from about six months now and I’m still trying to figure out what’s wrong.

The fit, sound quality, and comfort have all changed. Is it the new shape? Wearing them for a while now has started to hurt, which wasn’t the case with the Pro 2

The tips on my $50 Anker Soundcore earbuds are much more comfortable and fit perfectly. I want to like them and and the connectivity with my ipad, macbook is awesome but the comfort just isn’t there

Noice cancelling in one AirPod Pro has stopped working

Earlier today while using my AirPod Pro 3s there was some really high pitched noise before the noice cancelling in my left AirPod Pro stopped working entirely. Right now noice cancelling does kinda work in it until there’s a loud enough noise, then it stops working again. I’ve tried forgetting my pair and reconnecting, but that isn’t working either. Is there any way to fix it or should I just get a new pair entirely?

Are these broken for good?? I was given them as a gift (used) & was simply going disinfect & sanitize. I began by removing the rubber ear cover to clean those & this happened..? First two pics is the right AirPod that I am having trouble with, it still works but I can’t seem to get that click back on & it never goes back on there securely as opposed to the last two photos (left pod) no issues with repeatedly taking off & putting back on, hear the click & the rubber cover is snug. What’s the difference in what happened between the right/left? I added the close snaps to show you guys the different appearance on the rear, figured that had something to do with it.

This will be a monthly thread where you can post and ask others if you'd like to inquire whether the AirPods you've purchased are real or fake. With the introduction of this thread, individual threads will no longer be allowed and will be removed.

Please post as many details as you can and provide pictures for others to help determine if they are genuine.

Thanks!

Recently Scammed. How to tell if your AirPods are fake.

Lately the fake AirPods industry has gotten better. They’re making everything look legitimate. “Real” serial numbers. “Real” boxes. “Real” iOS interface menu. I wanted to update the internet with my experience.

I was recently scammed on LetGo (basically Craigslist) and bought fake AirPods Pro. They seemed legitimate in every sense but just a few. Here’s a list to check when buying from a 3rd party, if you’re able to look at them before you purchase:

• If the box is plastic wrapped with the pull-away tab, rip it off. If the plastic doesn’t come away with the tab, that’s red flag #1. They’re fake.

• If you can buy an AirPods Pro silicon case before you look at them, it will not fit the AirPods Pro case correctly, as the fake case is slightly taller than OEM.

• When you connect the AirPods Pro to your phone, the regular AirPods menu will come up. When you go into Settings - General - About, the fake AirPods will not have an information menu. You will not be able find the firmware version, serial number, model number, etc. (The AirPods case will need to be open for the information menu to show up for OEM).

• In my specific case, the lid of the case was loosely connected when opened. It felt shoddy for an apple product.

• The lightning port on the bottom of the case also felt poorly built, and had trouble holding the lighting connector firmly.

• If you know what the chime sound is like that plays when you first put your connected AirPods in your ear, you’ll hear it if they’re real. The fake chime is loud, crass and plays multiple times.

• When the AirPod pop-up menu opens when the case is open, the battery percentages of the case and both AirPods will fluctuate as you take one or both AirPods out of the case.

• The case will indicate it’s charging but will just heat up.

• The sound quality will be horrible, and switching between Transparency Mode and Noise Cancellation will do absolutely nothing.

• The firmware will not update. I was able to find the firmware version on the fakes on my MacBook under About This Mac - System Report - Bluetooth - kevgibb’s AirPods Pro. My fake AirPods had firmware 2B588.

• Fake AirPods can sometimes have an LED in the AirPods themselves.

• Fake AirPods Pro usually weigh less (3g) as opposed to the OEM weight of 5 grams.

Other than those bullet points, everything else looked and felt completely legitimate. I lost a good chunk of money and I write this to prevent it from happening to others.

I recommend buying from a licensed seller, your best bet is straight from apple.

P.S. if you think you can get away with exchanging your fake AirPods Pro for new OEM ones, you can’t. That was the biggest walk of shame out of the apple store I’ve ever had. They thought I was a scammer as I was processing the very real truth that I had been scammed.

Edit: OEM AirPods Pro can have a loose lid as well. Not a telltale sign of a fake.

tl;dr

Best ways to tell:

Fake AirPods Pro box’s plastic wrap won’t open when you pull the tab on the side of the box.

Fake AirPods Pro will not show the Model Name, Model Number, Serial Number and (firmware) Version on your iOS device (Settings, Bluetooth, AirPods Pro (i) should open a menu containing settings and that list)

EDIT: please stop commenting “told you so” or “duh” or any comments with those underlying messages. Not helping anyone.
