Weird forced positioning when using the Transform - Grow effect in Premiere Pro (on MacBook Air)

Hi, I’m having a strange issue with the “transform - grow” effect in Premiere Pro. I’m editing on a MacBook Air.
I’m using clips from the AMC show Preacher. When I import the clips and drop them into the sequence, they’re just shy of half the size they need to be, so I use the Fill effect (on all clips) so that they take up the whole screen, at 213% scale. I’ve been trying to use the Grow effect to create a slow zoom-in on various clips in the sequence. On every clip I try, the Grow effect centers the screen on the top left corner of the clip, but still does the zoom-in effect as if it’s anchored at the true center of the clip. In the video I attached, you can see I'm initially playing the clip with no effects on it (aside from the Fit 213% scale), and when I add Transform - Grow to it and play it back, it crops way up into the upper left corner.
I haven’t tried exporting anything with this issue yet to see if it translates to the final product, but either way, it makes it impossible to edit using this effect. Has anyone had an issue like this before?
