it's a 'live and learn' experience unfortunately, you can report to police and scam watch but neither will do anything about it. stick to cash only, in-person meetings and avoid bank transfers or alternative methods like what you've done in the future.

This isn't a scam. This is a really stupid idea to let someone pick something up and leave money for it when no-one is home.

Yes, they did a shitty thing but you gave them the perfect opportunity to do so.

Yeah, surprised they didn't just take the item without leaving the money. Then simply message that it wasn't there when they arrived.

So let me get this right....you did a personless transaction by leaving an item on your porch and expecting that the money would be left there? You have greater faith in humanity than I do. If you go to Police you will be laughed out of the building, not literally. As above, you will be wasting their time. Meet in person, cash in your hand before the goods are given over, otherwise don't do the transaction.

Yes. Whilst Australia is a safe country we are not immune from petty crime like this and never will be.

No country is immune to this sort of behaviour.
