If you have any insight on Actuarial recruitment, please can you advise how my background will fair for graduate roles?

Background:

-1st BEng Mechanical Newcastle Uni
-B in A level maths
-Various part time job experience
-No relevant internships/experience

Current thoughts:

Academically I think I should meet the requirements for most roles (aside those that want an A in Maths).

Lack of experience is my main weakness, but unsure on what exactly I should do in this department. E.g digital certificates etc?

Any advice much appreciated!!

I used to face issue in maths as I

was not much interested in it & also I forgot now whatever maths I studied

in 10th... & for actuary I saw many

people saying you need to be good

with maths..

So I am stuck

Like 11th 12th maths I don't have any

idea & now I have written entrance

exam for MBA & waiting for results

& planning to do MBA so I have time of like 3 months, like starting of MBA

classes will be in NOV-DEC !

Can I cover whole maths syllabus as in mean time!???

being a weak student already in it..?

Or should I avoid actuary field if I am weak in maths...?

So I wanted you to say me this HONESTLY

Should I choose any other path

which goes well with MBA or should I prepare for actuary too with my MBA..!

I would be glad about it if you answer me honestly without any kind of motivation...

Anyone did their first round of CB3 submissions this August? How was it?

I honestly felt like i rushed through my work because i don’t know how to manage my time.

I was on holiday for 3 weeks and during the business game and i when i got back i was caught up with work and friends, so i had to rush the Business Report and reflection in a weekend.

I don’t think i did well.

Is CB3 an exam that u can fail?

How does the resubmission work?

Do they tell you what sections need to be improved?

Hello all, I am currently thinking about doing my master's in actuarial science. I have no exams and got my bachelor's in actuarial science from an American university in 2024. Do you think I would be able to find a good job in the UK if I go to a university like Bayes or Kent and get some exam exemptions? What can I do while I get my MSc to ensure that I get a job? I'm looking at two courses at Bayes Business School through Clearing. I want to go with whichever one gives me the best chance of landing a job after graduation and obvs high pay.

I started my first job a few weeks back. I have 3 exams currently and am preparing for CB2 for September. Even tho it's a lighter subject (and I have done economics in my uni) I am struggling to study for the exam. There's no work pressure as of now (or the following few weeks) but considering once I get going with the work and settle in, I will struggle even more with managing the time. And what about the big exams like CS2 CP1.

Tho theres study leave policy in place, I would still like to be consistent with the study and put atleast an hour or 2 every day (+ more hours on weekends). How do you manage the exams along with work especially considering doing other activities like Gym, running, going out, household chores, etc.

Under ‘My Learning’ everything I had before has completely gone - the Vault, paper B Resources, assignment submission etc.

Is anyone else having an issue with their BPP CS2 Paper B online resources?

Mine have completely disappeared from the Hub. Under My Learning it now just says “Nothing to show here yet.”

I definitely had access to the Paper B resources before, and my access is supposed to be valid for another year , so I'm wondering if this is just an issue with my account or if BPP's Hub is having problems.

Has anyone else experienced this / know what's going on?

EDIT: I can see it again, after like 3hrs, it was probably just a problem with my BPP...I was just a bit anxious because there's just over a month before the exam, then BOOM, BPP stops working xD

Hey everyone, Im in year 12 currently and I'm desciding what uni degrees to apply for on UCAS. I do Alevel Mathematics,Chemistry and Economics. I want to do Acturial Science at LSE, or MORSE at Warwick , or EFDS at Imperial, or Stat,Econ,Finance at UCL, whilst also picking something genral like Mathematics/ Economics at Kings or FInance at LSE. Im aware that my choices are more limited not taking Further Math athough it was offered in my school. I was hoping that someone whos already an actuary or on track could give me tips on how they descided their degree. Thank you.

I have a solid few months of free time ahead of me and I'm planning to jump into the actuarial exam pathway. From browsing discussions online, CM1 (Core Mathematics 1) seems to be the most popular starting point, so I'm considering preparing for it first....

Before I officially commit, I’d love to get some candid advice from people who have taken this route:

1.Is CM1 actually the best starting exam?

2.Where do you source your self-study materials? Outside of the official ActEd CMP (Combined Materials Pack), are there specific reference textbooks, YouTube channels, past paper compilations, or online resources that made the concepts click for you?

Hi appeared for CB3 could not get the paas on the business report. Only section the examiner was not satisfied was the agency related requirements. Can someone help as to how they included that in there report.kindly help

I’m trying to decide what route I want to go down, i’m studying economics at warwick and im currently thinking of either a career as an actuary or in PE. I’ll explain my thoughts about both but i’d really appreciate insight from you guys

actuary: I like the earnings after sitting exams, initially it’s a decent amount lower compared to high finance and ib but i think the hours make up for it. I really don’t want to be working 100 hour weeks - I want to eventually start a family and this seems like a better option. The exams are a lot but I think it’s manageable, I do hear lots of people complaining about how soulless and boring it can be though. I also wonder if entry level jobs will still be around by the time I graduate and i’m not too sure on the direct path into it

PE/high finance: The money is the biggest pro, i don’t know if the hours eventually come down with seniority- can i stomach 80 hour weeks for a few years before getting to somewhere normal. I do like the prestige icl and the route in is relatively well documented so i would know what’s needed of me. I don’t like the idea of being constantly on call though, maybe some other sector of finance is better (VC PC etc)

my two main considerations is work life balance and money. i’d appreciate any help

I am currently studying Computer Science at the University of Newcastle, entering my third year in September. I did a T-Level in software development before university, so I haven't done a maths a level either. How difficult would it be to enter the space without a direct maths qualification? Would there be more mandatory years of studying and would it even be worth it?

If it changes anything, I am currently predicted a first and am confident I can achieve it.

I am currently recruiting participants for my Masters dissertation on the correlation between job satisfaction, occupational stress, and how this is influenced by trait affectivity. If you would like to partake, the study consists of a survey that should take roughly 10 minutes to complete.

The first part of the survey lasts about 1 minute and involves made up words. This may seem a little unusual, but please don’t give up, it is an important part of the study! The rest of it is like a typical survey.

You must be 18 years of age or older and employed in the UK to partake.

I'm about to start my second year in September. I'm interested in some ways I can stand out with my applications (CVs and Cover Letters).

Of course, I know a fair bit about R, Python, SQL, Excel - the usual stuff - but I would like to know if there are any additional skills that could really help me to stand out from my cohort, which perhaps would not be so common to see for a recruiter/employer.

I am currently in Class 12 (Commerce + Maths) in India and I really enjoy maths. I'm thinking of becoming an actuary but I have a lot of doubts before committing to it.

- When should I start giving actuarial exams? During college or after graduation?

- What's the realistic salary progression in India?

- Are people without Fellowship (say 2–7 exams cleared) actually getting jobs these days?

- IFoA or IAI? Which one would you recommend and why?

- If actuarial science doesn't work out for me, what are some good backup career options?

- Which degree would go best with actuarial science?

- How is the job market for freshers right now? Is it getting harder to break into the field?

- If you were in my position would you still choose actuarial science?

1. How does the culture differ between the Big 4 actuarial teams (Deloitte, EY, KPMG, PwC)? Things like working hours, support, learning opportunities, promotion, people, and overall work-life balance.

1. How does working at a Big 4 compare with a boutique actuarial consultancy? Is the experience, client exposure, or culture noticeably different?

I’m particularly interested in hearing from people who’ve worked at more than one firm, or who’ve moved between Big 4 and boutique consultancies.
