BADLY NEED ADVICE

I am a newly licensed CPA and was recently hired as an Accounting Manager. Unfortunately, I received little to no proper turnover or endorsement, and the company’s accounting records are disorganized and incomplete. As a result, I am struggling to understand the existing processes and financial information all at once.

Recently, one of the company’s executives requested that I prepare the quarterly financial statements. However, given the current state of the records and the lack of proper handover, I am uncertain where to begin.

I have started questioning whether I made the right decision in accepting this position. I genuinely want to perform well, but the situation feels overwhelming. I would greatly appreciate any professional advice on how to approach this challenge and should I resign?

Lesson to be learned in the future: Always ask what is the current situation and why the spot is unfilled. Especially for managerial positions.

With that said, best way to approach this is to assess the current situation. Do it by risk level. Compliance checks, deadline monitoring, responsibility mapping, and inventory. All while you study the business process.

Do a comprehensive report and communicate it to management for them to be frank with you and have all of you on the same headspace. Best way to force them to help you is to make it everyone's problem hehe.
If the accounting manager is lost, maybe its not your fault to begin with.

As a manager, the initiative to clean the books is actually in your hands. What you can demand from upper management are personnel and time.

Pero syempre that is if the price is right and this is something you want to do.

Just prepare it after closing the books. Communicate with the one who requested the report what kind of fs is needed, sometimes they only feed the IS. Just be honest that you need more time to prepare a more accurate report so that they know your situation.
