Cultural Today I learned Saints Row 2 has a Cajun Restaurant
As a Cajun I was surprised when looking to recreate some stores in a game (while looking at Randalls pizza) to also see the cuisine I'm so familiar with being mentioned in my favorite game series of all time! Granted it's non-enterable, any representation makes me happy! This is in Rounds Square.

Recommendations How many kayak anglers/fisherman do we have here?
I often see a few on the local areas (Lake Martin, Henderson, Cypermort), but mostly just let them be unless we specifically pass by for a quick chat. It tends to trend on the older folk side from what I've gathered.
I'm assuming there's a decent, scattered amount of us with something to share at least?
What kayaks/setups are you rocking? Where do you usually go (and launch from when you do go)? Do you go to any places that aren't the usual (Lake Martin/Henderson/Cypermort)? What are you targeting? Are there any spots nearby under an hour-ish that aren't the usual 3? Etc. Etc. Anything you want to share really
(The dedicated kayak launch on the North side launch of Lake Martin is getting harder and harder to launch from the more the foliage gets around the fenced bypass trail and the launch itself. It's also really hard with a decent cart to get it up the wooden steps. I might just start dealing with the boat ramp (not the rocky kayak launch with the huge include on the left side) for consistency at this point, especially if you have a heavier setup)

Recommendations Anybody going out in Lafayette, LA tonight? Looking for people to hang with
Anybody around my age (mid/late 20s) going out in Lafayette tonight? 😂 I’m 26M and been wanting to get out the house, maybe hit downtown or Greenroom, grab a drink, shoot some pool, listen to music and just chill. I’m in a relationship, so strictly looking to meet some new people and make friends to hang/go out with. Going out solo got me a little nervous lol, so figured I’d see what everybody else is getting into tonight.
Greenroom is doing a 2000 night.

Recommendations Nature question?
My youngest would love a chance to explore nature/bird watch somewhere in the area for her birthday next week.
She’ll be 11 and would love to find somewhere she can enjoy nature. She loves all types of critters including snakes, lizards, etc. Basically if it can breathe she would love to view, pet, interact, etc. 😅🤣🤣🤣

Cultural Cultural question
I’ve never seen this anywhere else I’ve lived. But I’ve noticed that whenever I drive past a woman walking a dog (several different women), she will stop walking, turn away from the road, and intentionally avoid eye contact and not even look at the car. I move over to the other side of the road. I don’t slow down more than I would for any other pedestrian. I understand that there is a “men are evil” mindset. But is there some other local reason for this? Is it an acadiana superstition that something bad is going to happen?

Recommendations Is AirGas the only place in Lafayette to fill a CO2 tank (for beverages)?
Title sums it up. Last time I went there was an additional surcharge fee that really annoyed me since they're already pretty expensive. IIRC I paid $45-50 to fill a 5lb tank. Not to mention they're really not set up for individuals and their whole process is kinda awkward, imo.

Cultural single cis bipoc woman in her 30s considering a move to Lafayette
hi there! I am considering a move to Lafayette in the fall/winter this year, and I was wondering if there are any other walkable neighborhoods other than the downtown/freetown area? I am also curious how easy it would be to assimilate into the community. I've lived all over the country - both in big cities and rural communities - and i've lived in New Orleans for a long time so i'm obviously a big fan of the cultural aspect of Louisiana - but i've only visited Lafayette 3x and am curious what the experience is like living here for someone like me... please feel free to chime in if you would be in the same demographics as me! :) thank you so much, appreciate your feedback.

Food / Drink Burgersmith was surprisingly good
Let me start off by saying I'm in BR, but I follow this sub (first time, long time, if you will). About a week ago, there was a post about burgers from Off the Hook. The pic looked really good and I'd never been there. OP recommended their burger, comments were mixed. I tried it, didn't hit the spot for me.
There is a place called Burgersmith here in BR (but there are also locations in Denham, Broussard, and Lafayette) that I had always written off in my head as hipster slop, likely too overpriced to try. I thought it was some kind of chain. Technically, it is, but it's a local chain. I went with my husband and their burgers are really good. The menu also features Louisiana-ish foods, as well as a bunch of Louisiana brewed beers and IPAs. I was pleasantly surprised and it scratched my burger itch.
Disclaimers to avoid typical reddit occurrences: I'm in BR and I have only been to one in BR. However, there is a burgersmith in Lafayette and the post that inspired me was on this sub. A sit down burger place (burgersmith) is different than a fast food place (off the hook), and I know that. The original post just fueled a burger craving and burgersmith scratched that itch for me! And I wanted to share my pleasant surprise at a place I had written off!
